Thanks, Geoff. One of the comments on that page includes a link to the original Animusic video, with better picture quality:

Here’s a real machine inspired by the CGI version:

Thanks GB, that's amazing! Even when OH commented that it's all computer generated, and I note in the comments that this is the case. Still a wonderful bit of work, mind.

Not having any talent for playing any instrument, I've always been fascinated by mechanical music, such as fairground organs and orchestrions. There are many examples on YouTube. I never did get around to visiting the museum in Thursford https://www.thursford.com/steam-museum/, where Mr Cushing has many working examples.

I did a rough estimate of the number of data (ie instrument) channels on the programme tape; I guess it may be about 35 (very rough guess).

How many individual instruments are being played? That is, individual pipes and percussion strips.  Or is what looks like the percussion section just for show with respect to the organ pipes?

Or with more than 100+ year old technology: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTnGI6Knw5Q

Impressive. Thanks for that.

I found it quite impressive, too. Thanks to your OH for disturbing you, and thanks to you for the link!

I know you’re a big Freddie Mercury fan, Karen, but I don’t know whether that’s enough to put you off watching this:

Bohemian Rhapsody on Floppotron

That was the next one that came up after the first one he showed me. Different, certainly.

OH has just disturbed me to show me this - which I actually found quite impressive!
