An impossible request, of course. Renoir would never have produced a shadow-less, or background free painting.

Cut-out studio in PagePlus is one way, ( a quick, unrefined result attached)

but just about any photo editing software is capable, including, of course, PhotoPlus.

I modified William's post to specify transparency and PNG format. Didn't work. However, with Photoshop it is very easy to select the subject from the checkered background.

William .. I think Bing is capable of making the background transparent -- but I don't know how to do it. "Customize" might be the way. I'll need to research and see. Can't find an easy way to do this yet. Compositing is not my thing.

Given that the background is not a plain white colour, what is the best way to produce a clip art picture from the original JFIF file please?

I have Affinity Designer, which I have used but not for its advanced uses, and Affinity Photo.

As this is a bitmap image, is it best to use Affinity Photo?

As best I know, a JPEG file does not support transparency, so I may need to convert to 32-bit PNG.
