Thanks for “fessing up”, Steve! That’s very strange about the download counter: it has clearly worked for other files that have been attached here.

Thanks Albert.  Is that you with Jill in Shouty.jpg?

I assumed that was Richard! Curiously, next to the attachment icon I see “Shouty.jpg 762.68 kb, file has never been downloaded.” I thought my viewing of it may not have been counted because of admin privileges, but you’ve clearly viewed it, too.

As for the lady feeding it seems, after checking on the internet, that she was providing the right type of food.  Whilst most folk chuck bread at swans, ducks etc it's not really good for them.

A park not far from where I live has a large pond which is home to various species of waterfowl, and there are numerous signs asking people to refrain from throwing bread into the water: not only because it’s unsuitable for the birds’ digestive systems, but also because it encourages the growth of algae.

The concept that one needs to send CMYK if a PDF document is to be printed seems to not necessarily always be what is needed.

Did you really mean to say that the concept may not always be what is needed? https://punster.me/images/unsure.gif

Yes.

If I have got it wrong, I am happy to learn why.

I’m not saying you’ve got it wrong, William, I’m simply saying I don’t understand the … er … concept of a concept being needed (or not).

What if, (if these proposed characters are implemented), on some future day, there is a poem with both of these characters in each line?

If those proposed characters are implemented, what if there is a piece of text with both of those characters in some lines but not others? What if the text includes only one of the two characters in some/many/all lines?

The phrase “cross that bridge when you come to it” springs to mind.

Perhaps going off-topic, yet maybe worth mentioning here.

I am not an expert on all of this, I just knew of what is in the linked page and so I have posted the link in case it might be relevant.

It’s clearly relevant to that particular print shop, but I think this merely serves to underline the fact that you shouldn’t make assumptions. If there’s anything you’re unsure about, ask for guidance from the printer that you intend to use.

I have moved this topic from the Art & Literature forum because it’s about fonts! I’ve left a redirect to this Fonts forum.

I think you mean a quadrilateral.

That is indeed what I meant, Geoff, which is why I corrected myself while addressing William’s assertion about the triangle in question being isosceles.

GB wrote:

A rectangle has four 90 degree angles. A quadrilateral could have two 180 degree angles and two zero degree angles. A triangle's angles always add up to 180 degrees, so it can have two right angles separated by a zero length side, and would appear like this: ______________________*

It would be difficult to distinguish it from a triangle with one angle of 180 degrees, and two of zero degrees. However, the former would, of course definitely be an isosceles triangle while the latter may not.

*Actually this is the quadrilateral I've described, but I bet you didn't notice!

An isosceles triangle.

A rectangle with one side of zero length would be a right-angled triangle. I should, of course, have said a quadrilateral with one side of zero length, which could be isosceles.

Hmm.

I wonder what angles are involved for that.

Please consider too a quadrilateral where the angle between two of the sides is 180 degrees.

Please also consider that the sum of the internal angles in a quadrilateral is 360°, but the sum of the internal angles in a triangle is only 180°.

You can use a website such as timeanddate.com or time.is to find the answer to that question.

As Photo, Publisher and Designer share a lot of code it might be the same SW in both Photo and Publisher that does the RGB-CMYK converting

Yes, it will be. The core code is shared between all three apps, and then there’s a UI layer on top that exposes different parts of that code to the user.

however I would still use Photo to set up the images correctly for use in Publisher

Agreed. If you have it, you might as well use the image editor for setting up the images correctly.

Which triangle are you referring to?

I realized, after I had got the result, that I had in error put 'triangle' instead of 'rectangle'.

Do we actually need all those different names for polygonal variants? After all, a triangle is a rectangle with one side of zero length. In a similar vein, a pentagon can be regarded as a decagon half of whose sides are of zero length! https://punster.me/images/tongue.gif

The rectangular one, obviously! https://punster.me/images/tongue.gif

San Gimigano

I presume you meant to type San Gimignano as in your earlier prompt.

Without the n before the a it would be pronounced

/san dʒimiˈgaːno/

instead of

/san dʒimiɲˈɲaːno/

https://www.howtopronounce.com/san-gimignano

What is your favorite feature for Affinity? Mine is exporting more smoother SVG (not a circle with 16 nodes if 4 is enough for example).

I’ve always regarded the Shape Tools in the Affinity apps as being a better version of the old QuickShapes, but there are many ‘Plus’ features yet to be implemented (e.g. Blend, Connection, and Dimension Tools). There are also buggy features such as the ‘Expand Curve’ command that have long been in desperate need of fixing.

Which of the values below is greater?

e to the power pi
pi to the power e

No calculators or computers to be used, obviously! And you have to explain your reasoning, so you can’t simply resort to guesswork.

Meh, it's a complete s***show anyway. The platform itself is completely chaotic, and it doesn't seem like they're that much invested in it. They say they read all the posts, but even if that's true, they're very absent from the discussion.

Serif staff almost never replied to posts in the Feedback forum, anyway, so no much has changed there. The most important change, of course, is their abandonment of a forum in favour of a chat room: even if it weren’t chaotic it would still be a poorer format.
