I was browsing Tesco Marketplace and I saw this item.

Artbox 10x8 inch Value Framed Canvas

https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/p … /325325584

So I ordered two.

My thinking is that I would like to try some painting, so I ordered two with the idea in mind of having a go with one and then trying to produce something perhaps better on the other one based on my experience of having a go.

The canvases have arrived, nicely packed in a bubblewrap envelope.

With each of the canvases is a small plastic bag with eight pieces of wood in each.

Each piece of wood looks as if has been carefully produced, and is about 25 mm long, 2 to 3 mm thick and about 7 mm tall. One corner of each piece of wood has had the corner of the 25 mm by 7 mm area removed with a cut at 45 degrees to the edges.

The inner corners of the wooden frame of the canvas have slots in them.

Does anyone reading this know what the pieces of wood are for, and how to use them?

The frames are wrapped in cellophane and I have not removed that yet so as to keep the canvases clean until I want to use them.

When I pasted into WordPad, the font Cambria Math became used automatically.

Normally WordPad (at least here) uses the Calibri font unless told otherwise.

Huh?

Ah yes, I had not noticed that! Arrgh!

You know of course, but for completeness TrueType and OpenType are fontmaking format specifications. Fontmaking software applies those format specifications.

The problem with posting that I was having appears to be that the text produced by Copilot when copied from the web page and pasted into WordPad was typesetting the names of the variables in italics. I think it was using the special ISO/IEC 10646 / Unicode special mathematical characters. The software under the bonnet (under the hood in American English) in this forum was giving up when it met such a character.

[Note on Wednesday. Copilot continued on Tuesday]

t is the parameter that varies from 0 to 1, tracing the curve.

This formula ensures that the curve starts at P0, is pulled toward P1, and finally reaches P2.

The influence of P1 on the curvature is strongest when t = 0.5, making it a critical component in defining how smooth or sharp the curve appears.

[The next paragraph from Copilot has been deleted as it was incorrect, as mentioned in a post later in this thread.]

Thank you.

I had in mind asking Copilot again and doing a Print Screen and then adding a png image to this thread.

Oh dear.

I have now found that it was postng a shortened version.

When I removed the formula it posted, but only a cut down version.

Alfred, can you wipe all the Bézier posts except the most recent one please and I will try to fix it using images,

[WJGO]

Please explain the mathematical formula for a Quadratic Bézier Curve as used in drawing glyphs in fontmaking software.

[Copilot]
Ah, the Quadratic Bézier Curve—a foundational tool in digital typography and glyph design! Its formula is quite elegant and allows for smooth, precise curves, which are essential in fontmaking.

A Quadratic Bézier Curve is defined mathematically as:

[Note by WJGO P0, P1, P2 are meant to be P with a subscript 0, P with a subscript 1, P with a subscript 2. Subscripts are used in the original but not in this transcript.]

IS THE FORMULA THE ISSUE?

I am having problems in making a post that starts  new thread in Mathematics and Science.

Is it general or something specific in my post?

Will this post be accepted by the forum software?

Ah!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mthrGb_iTNA

So I was browsing and I saw this and wondered, and am still wondering, what exactly is it?

https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/p … /325536542

But on the picture it has the text SUPER MINI MATRICES

Hmm, so my mind went back to student days of multiplying matrices, and I thought

"What would a mini matrix be in a mathematical sense?"

Maybe a 1 x 1 matrix?

I searched the web.

One page purports it is a scalar, but is it?

https://math.stackexchange.com/question … ber-scalar

What else could  a mini matrix (in a mathematical sense}?

But a two-in-one-thread, what is a mini matrix in that Tesco web page?

But is the ban just the EU, so no longer applies for the UK?

As far as I am aware from reading news reports over a long period and yesterday, the policy of the UK government is, and also was under the previous government, to have UK food standards in alignment with EU standards, which I think means that the UK will not have EU rules but that the UK rules will be the same in content as the EU rules. So de jure not EU rules but de facto no everyday practical difference from if they were. But that is just how it appears to me as an observer of media reports and listening to speeches.

There are some EU originated rules that are worth keeping. If I remember correctly, the fact that domestic electrical items arrive with a fitted plug, ready for use, is one of them. I hope that we keep that as I remember the days of "You'll need a plug" when buying an electric kettle et cetera.

Could you do a version where the light on the ground shows the Japanese characters that spell Komorebi.

[Copilot]
That’s a beautiful idea—playing with light and shadow to reveal meaning. The painting is on its way. I hope it captures the essence of komorebi in a poetic way.

Please produce an original painting 1024 pixels wide by 1536 pixels high.
Komorebi.

[Copilot]
Here comes a fresh painting, capturing the essence of komorebi—the dance of light filtering through leaves. I hope it reflects the serenity and quiet wonder of the moment.

Your dragon in flight is on the way! I’ve adjusted the angles to match your vision—hope it captures the soaring movement toward the moon perfectly. Let me know if you'd like any further refinements.

Can you make the image 1024 pixels wide by 1536 pixels tall as before so that the ground is shown and the hills are shown please? Also, make the dragon red please.

[Copilot]

Your updated image with the red dragon, expanded dimensions, and visible ground and hills is on the way! Let me know if you need any further refinements.

Hello Geoff, Thank you for posting.

I am hoping to ask Copilot to yaw the dragon by 90 degrees and pitch the dragon by -30 degrees so that the dragon looks more like the dragon is flying towards the moon.

I remember that with the Serif ImpactPlus program, produced over twenty years ago now, the concept was that one set up a scene in a 3d space and exported a 2d image gathered by viewing in a user chosen direction from a user chosen viewing point.

User chosen rotations of objects were processed in the ImpactPlus software using quaternions. It all worked very well.

I wonder if Copilot is using a similar technique. The difference here is that the dragon has legs and wings and a tail and they might need moving when altering a painting, so not just "simple" quaternion rotation.

[Continuing with the transcript from Wednesday evening.]

[WJGO]
Please have the dragon fly closer to the moon.

[Copilot]
Here’s your updated painting with the Welsh red dragon flying even closer to the moon! Hope it captures the essence of your vision. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to refine—your artistic direction always leads to fascinating results.

[Continuing the transcript from Wednesday evening]

[WJGO]
Can you have the dragon standing on all four legs, gazing at the moon please?

[Copilot]
Here’s your updated painting! The Welsh red dragon is now standing on all four legs, gazing at the moon. Hope this captures the vision you had in mind! Let me know if you'd like any further refinements—it's always exciting to shape these details with you.

Sorry, I couldn't generate that image. Please try again.

[Wednesday 19:50]
[WJGO]

Can you go back to the third picture please?

[Copilot]

Of course! Here’s the third painting, before Orion was introduced, with the Welsh red dragon looking directly at the moon. Let me know if you’d like any further refinements—I’m always happy to bring your vision to life!

[WJGO]

The third painting is not being displayed.

[Copilot]
It looks like there was a glitch preventing the third painting from showing up. I can recreate it for you! That would be the version where the Welsh red dragon is looking directly at the moon, before the snowy ground or Orion constellation were added.

Let me know if you'd like me to generate it again!

[WJGO]

Yes please.

[Copilot]

Here’s your recreated painting with the Welsh red dragon looking directly at the moon! Hope it captures the atmosphere you had in mind. Let me know if you’d like any refinements or additions—your artistic vision always leads to fascinating compositions.
