I really don't get why there is no option to switch the "Welcome" Dialogue box feature off.
I am hoping this will be added in the subsequent updates

Whilst the dreadful speculation is over, the angst is only just beginning: Discord is full of disgruntled people who've argued for a whole month leading up to this and are arguing again now and have been since yesterday's launch: they obviously can't be happy, whichever way things go. It beggars belief, quite frankly. If they are so damned disaffected, why don't they just flounce off somewhere else as they have been threatening to do ad nauseam for weeks?
Hopefully the dust will settle soon and the more rational voices will gain more prominence. The world moves on, and nobody is likely to be 100% happy however things play out.
Disappointed in your post.
Many wanted a V3 Affinity with a perpetual licence and no subscription.
They haven't got that. This free studio has, because you have not bought a licence, no obligation to the users. Canva can change it at any time and in any direction, including turning it off. IT also has an optional subscription component.
What is more worrying is the market positioning with Canva, they have taken affinity down market to the non-professional Canva market. Adobe will be pleased. The push is on AI and the Canvas presentation had a lot of users saying they wanted AI and template to effectively do the wok for them.
Putting all 2 and 1/2 apps in to one is a backward step. Especially for Publisher users, the "layout" section being barely mentioned in anyone's presentation and it is looking less like an inDesign competitor by the day.
I have been on the inside of several similar buy outs like this Canva-Affinity one (not I am not naming names as there are NDA's) and I have seen how it works over the years. Hence, my caution for the future.
Ali if you want to be a Canva shill flounce off and join their Discord. There are many rational heads here who don't like the way Affinity has gone so you will find the discussion is not to your liking.
Now perhaps we can raise the tone back up to an adult level?
I TOTALLY disagree with you - Your argument has no valid ground and WILL be proven wrong in due course - Furthermore you are not obligated to stay on this "train" get off at the next stop!!!
Do you even use the software at all or just hell to throw in your 2p for the sake of it!!!!
Light mode removed from the UI…
Extremely annoyed about that!!!!
Have sent the feedback - As to them ever bringing it back is another matter.
Also, the Welcome screen cannot be switched off, which is another irritation !!!!

Sure, Figma is total proof that such kind of browser based design app works well for professional teams. But as long as it's that, UI/UX, low fi graphics.
They really want us to know that they 'really listened' and nobody asked for that. Also serious professionals don't want potentionally unsafe tools where your work is stored somewhere else / copyright and privacy issues / unstable internet / services offline etc.. Preferrably even working without any connection needed. So I don't believe they would go that way. If anything than optionally extra.

I have no good reason to trust you, so no, I won't - sorry.
My best guess would be a hybrid approach to pricing - a mixed economy.
It does not matter - The trust me was more rhetorical
I know what I know and believe me it is more than what you know
Let's just leave it at that.

Ali this is neither pointless or speculation.
What evidence?
Serif/Canva are not revealing anything at this point, so all anyone can do is wait and see.
I am saying nothing until the 30th but trust me on this one!
And there was me hoping that the pointless speculation wouldn't follow us here ...
Ali this is neither pointless or speculation. I have strong evidence otherwise I would not be saying this.
Wether you like it or not - Affinity will be online and subscription based. The question is how powerful will it be?
You will see on the 30th if you have signed up to see.
Welcome, Sam, and thanks for sharing your thoughts about what Canva has in store for those of us who have Affinity version 2 licences. I just wish they weren’t keeping us waiting so long before the big reveal!
The reason it has taken this long is, the application has been written from ground up with a the help from Canva's dev team and direction and design by Ash & Co. (imho) - This is the gamble Affinity has taken and they will lose a lot of users if it will a web based application (Which most certainly) will.
I would be amazed it is otherwise.
First of all thank you Alfred for having me here and good to see some familiar faces.
Affinity is changing in a big way (from what I have seen) and I doubt very much it will remain an "Installable" sofware with a perpetual licence. This would go against the ethos and foundation of Canva. There will be a close integration with Canva and Canva AI.
I do not think there will be a 2.7 or ideed 3.0 - I just hope the new platform will retain most of the important features (For example Mail Merging in Publisher) and many more.
Sam
