Since there is no option but to do it (either immediately or later) I will continue to do as I have, which is to leave it to do it and that way I know it's been done. I have never been one to put off to tomorrow what I can do today as I am likely to forget. I find it reassuring to have got a task out of the way where I don't have to worry about it again.

I know exactly what you mean. it seems like it takes forever to 'update remote manifest' etc. That's why I only use WP publish to web when I have to. I can upload hundreds of files with FileZilla (or probably any other good FTP client) in the time it takes WP to upload 10.

My experience is that the upload actually take place nearly as quick as FileZilla but that the "update remote manifest" takes forever. So, one can cancel the upload during "update remote manifest" and all is well.

The question is how important is "update remote manifest"?  Does it do anything useful?  Can you skip it?

I am reluctant to cancel unless I can be sure that there are no significant consequences. When it says 'Updating remote manifest' it still states that there are 3 seconds remaining. I am not sure what processes are going on during that supposed 3 seconds.

The upload speed is fine. It is not until it reaches the final stage that the lag occurs. This may well be linked to the size of the site as it used to be fine.

Firstly, thank you Alfred for setting up this super forum.

When I upload a page to the server and the upload has almost completed, the program 'hangs' for around 10 minutes before confirm that the files were successfully uploaded. This never used to happen. Is there anything I can do to speed up this process?
