Thanks for posting, Gordon. I had no idea that Sandy Gall was still with us until so very recently.

Wow, Gordon! It’s good to hear that you’re both safe and sound.

I’ve just read that the earthquake was of magnitude 5.4 and caused a roof collapse in the cafe of the departure lounge at Almeria Airport.

a score of 22!

Should that be read as “a score of 22 [remarkably]” or “a score of 1124000727777607680000“?

I think ‘Document Properties’ in Adobe Acrobat Reader should be an option on the File menu, but if not the standard keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+D.

She said it rang a bell, but she wasn’t sure if it was there or not.

Oh, excellent!

By the way, you really should keep proper backups of your important files on removable media or cloud storage (or both). For a few tens of pounds you can buy an external SSD that plugs into a USB port and gives you many tens of gigabytes of storage capacity.

Dad: "Hide."

Kid: "What???"

Dad: "Hide: a cow’s outside."

Kid: "I'm not afraid of a cow!"

Teacher: “If I gave you 2 cats and another 2 cats and another 2, how many would you have?”

Johnny: “Seven.”

Teacher: “No, listen carefully… If I gave you two cats, and another two cats and another two, how many would you have?”

Johnny: “Seven.”

Teacher: “Let me put it to you differently. If I gave you two apples, and another two apples and another two, how many would you have?”

Johnny: “Six.”

Teacher: “Good. Now if I gave you two cats, and another two cats and another two, how many would you have?”

Johnny: “Seven!”

Teacher: “Johnny, where in the heck do you get seven from?!”

Johnny: “Because I’ve already got a freaking cat!”

I’ve just performed an Advanced search for posts by user William containing the search term attach* (i.e. beginning with ‘attach’). The search returned only 28 results, so it shouldn’t be too onerous to check which ones actually have files attached.

I don’t think there’s anything built into the basic forum software, so I would probably need to find and install a suitable extension. I’ll look into it.

The old ones are the best!

"Doctor, I keep seeing stars and spots before my eyes."
"Have you seen an optician?"
"No, just stars and spots."

I quit my terrible job at the candy store.

So long, suckers!

Good one, Karen! Thanks for sharing.

The weird-jokes.com site is a great find, by the way. Right there on the home page this morning:

I went for a job interview at UPS. I said, “Sorry I'm late, I went to the wrong address" - and they made me regional manager.

Dove chocolate tastes way better than their soap.

I love the phrase “bear with me” because it either means “please be patient” or “the zoo heist was a success.”

"Possibly."

I think you’ll have to explain the joke to most of this forum’s audience, William.

Thank you, but that link only yields an explanation of the ‘Possibly’ reference. It doesn’t tell us anything about dragons or parsnips.

I tried right clicking and there was a Switch off vertical tabs so I tried that and it solved the problem.

I don’t generally subscribe to (or ‘follow’) topics on here, but on most forums where there is an option to receive notifications for new posts you don’t get notifications when existing posts are edited. Therefore if you post about a problem and subsequently find a solution, it’s better to make a new post about it.

An interesting experiment, William!

Did you have a particular reason for the unconventional layout? Stanzas of a poem are usually presented like this:

Through a time telectroscope
A young poet lets us look
At a poem he has written
And how long the writing took.
Yet we know, but he does not,
That at some future time
Printed on fine paper
His first attempt at rhyme.

It’s also conventional to put one space or none — often the latter in work which is printed rather than handwritten — on either side of a dash. The asymmetry of

His memory is scattered— like leaves in autumn air— but something in her presence makes him feel less unaware.

looks very odd to me.

Not Quite: in the UK there was the so-called Digital Edition which was version 8.1.0.something. There were no patches of which I am aware.

That was indeed a later version, but Tom asked “If anyone has an update to this can they share it with me, please?” MoviePlus X6 Digital Edition was a version where some major functionality was removed: I’m pretty sure it couldn’t burn DVDs, and there may well have been other limitations, so it isn’t what most of us would regard as an “update”.

Thanks to dispersion, the speed of a wave depends on its frequency, so the speed of light through glass is different for each colour. A prism gives us the classic example of dispersion.

The frequency of the wave will be affected by the density and temperature of the medium through which it is travelling. A denser or colder medium will lower the frequency.
