Re: Affinity Studio is now available
I’ve created an account on Discord, but I’ve never done anything more there than editing my profile! I’m afraid I can’t see the point.

There is now also an Affinity Studio section on the form

Which is probably where this discussion should continue?
Pretty annoying that we have to wait +8 month for the iPad version of the new 3.0 of Affinity by Canva…
It seems like Canva have low expectations on the iPad platform, although I have an maxed out iPad Pro M5 13” with 16GB RAM for $3000, it doesn’t matter for Canva…

Ash said early next year, so where did you get 8+ months from?

Eight months from now is the beginning of July, but even the beginning of June isn’t what most people would regard as ‘early’ next year. I wouldn’t expect to be kept waiting beyond March or April.
I would hope he meant Q1, so by the end of March.

Whatever, but, isn’t a bad sign that Canva hasn’t developed an iPad version in parallell with the similar MacOS version?
iPad probably has very low prioritize in the Canva roadplan for the future…

I would agree that it isn't a good sign that there is no iPad version yet, but "early" next year would normally be read as Q1. Though I susspect they don't want to be a hostage to fortune by saying "by the 31st March" just in case it runs late.
Looking at the sort of users Canva attracts I would think an iPad version is a priority. However, they, both Canva and Serif, will be part of the Apple developers program with access to the iPad road map. So they may well be developing for the next iPad due out in Q1 or Q2 2026
Time will tell but I wonder if they are doing a version for both iPad and other tablets.

New iPad Q1 or Q2 2026??
I’ve bought myself an new iPad last week, and iPad Pro 13” M5 1TBSSD - hard to believe that it will be any better than that in the near future…

"iPad 12th gen release date Apple is expected to launch the 12th-gen iPad in spring 2026. "

However, the holdup for iPad is only a guess by me. My apple contacts aren't contactable at the moment.

Whilst the dreadful speculation is over, the angst is only just beginning: Discord is full of disgruntled people who've argued for a whole month leading up to this and are arguing again now and have been since yesterday's launch: they obviously can't be happy, whichever way things go. It beggars belief, quite frankly. If they are so damned disaffected, why don't they just flounce off somewhere else as they have been threatening to do ad nauseam for weeks?
Hopefully the dust will settle soon and the more rational voices will gain more prominence. The world moves on, and nobody is likely to be 100% happy however things play out.
Disappointed in your post.
Many wanted a V3 Affinity with a perpetual licence and no subscription.
They haven't got that. This free studio has, because you have not bought a licence, no obligation to the users. Canva can change it at any time and in any direction, including turning it off. IT also has an optional subscription component.
What is more worrying is the market positioning with Canva, they have taken affinity down market to the non-professional Canva market. Adobe will be pleased. The push is on AI and the Canvas presentation had a lot of users saying they wanted AI and template to effectively do the wok for them.
Putting all 2 and 1/2 apps in to one is a backward step. Especially for Publisher users, the "layout" section being barely mentioned in anyone's presentation and it is looking less like an inDesign competitor by the day.
I have been on the inside of several similar buy outs like this Canva-Affinity one (not I am not naming names as there are NDA's) and I have seen how it works over the years. Hence, my caution for the future.
Ali if you want to be a Canva shill flounce off and join their Discord. There are many rational heads here who don't like the way Affinity has gone so you will find the discussion is not to your liking.
Now perhaps we can raise the tone back up to an adult level?
I TOTALLY disagree with you - Your argument has no valid ground and WILL be proven wrong in due course - Furthermore you are not obligated to stay on this "train" get off at the next stop!!!
Do you even use the software at all or just hell to throw in your 2p for the sake of it!!!!
I am not sure which of us you are disagreeing with, sorry.
If me, then I shall be using V3, primarily for DTP projects, but also some photo manipulation (although I have never made any secret of the fact that my primary photo editor is ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate 2026 because it includes DAM).
I do genuinely hope that Canva will keep its promises and prove those who mistrust them wrong.

My argument has over 30 years experience of working inside the to back it up. Also, what Serif has said in written statements. Also I have been around long enough not to make silly statements like "you WILL be proven wrong" nothing is certain. Though, some moves are all but impossible to go back on.
Also some people here don't understand the differences between perpetual licence, "free" and subscription. Legally, there is a vast difference.
As for getting off the train. Like many Affinity V1/V2I users didn't get on the Canva train.
Affinity.studio is not suitable for what I do, and this has become apparent. As I do real work with these tools, I don't dive in on day one. I never have as I can't afford the disruption if it doesn't work, and already the reports are saying it is not as good as the Affinity V2 tools.
Like many Affinity V1/V2I users didn't get on the Canva train.
“V2I”? I’m guessing that you had finger trouble there, Chris, and that what you actually meant to type was “Like many Affinity V1/V2 users I didn't get on the Canva train.”

Yes finger trouble. However, the "many" Affinity users not getting on the Canva train, whilst being a large number of several millions, it is probably about 0.5% of the number of Canva users. Which is why anyone who wants something other than free->subscription and AI is not going to get very far.
So whilst Canva's affinity.studio will delight the 10's of millions of Canva users, many (most?) Affinity users will be disappointed.
