There was a young man with a goal
To swallow a lexicon whole
  To make a translation
For the good of the Nation
That was his uplifting rôle

No names, no pack drill!

Would I be heavily criticised if I pleaded for a Cats only thread?

I don't like dogs, they, and pictures of them disturb me. I don't want to work through pictures of dogs to get my beloved feline species. I hope it doesn't mean I'm taken as intolerant, and after all,  there is plenty of room for a dog thread.  For that matter, lots of animals deserve a thread, and having one for all only dilutes the pleasure, for me, at least.

Now, about reigning - a thread on this topic, could be contentious, for lots of obvious reasons - we don't want to politicise our royalty. If the topic generally was not political, and I hope this was true, it could be contained in the jokes thread.

I'm willing to start a cats' thread, but maybe someone else could pick up the baton.

The rhyming couplet in the first post in this thread

I know this humour may not please most
But at least there's rhyming in this post

The first post in this thread was mine, prose text just asking for a jokes thread to be allowed.

If it's that post to which William is referring, and I can't see another,  I don't take it kindly.

I hope you will never find me guilty of trying to pass off such text as an attempt at a rhyming couplet.

You may have noticed I always try to regularise the no of stresses/feet in each line of a couplet, which more than can be said for your comment!

Wrongly seen as rhyme, first post in this thread,
Rhymes not, William, obvious when read
This humour may not please the most; sublime,
But unlike some, these stanzas all do rhyme.
By me, compressed and tortured to be neat,
At least, contain equality of feet.

I wonder - do images have to be in a specific format, like .png?
Are .gif and .jpg images not accepted?

Also, does the tag material inside the first img code point, as shown in image help, have to be inserted if the image doesn't come from a universally available website?

important question, again,

How do you close an attachment and go back to the posts?
I have to more or less shut off the thread.

I hope these questions and their answers are useful to new users of the site.

I have just noticed the new tool bar above.

The picture in the previous post was from a url, not a stored image file.

trial from stored image  ---
NO. Can't make it work for
{img} image location (computer pathname - host file) image name.jpg{/mg} (using sqbrk)

Question: does the image have to be a url referring to a website? In other words universally available.
How can I make it a url based on a file in my computer?

I can see you only have to enter {img} image source {/img}, using square brackets []
It works where I have copied image source from original webpage.

I will see if it works from an image file.

I should have explained what matzo is for those not familiar with this delicacy.

Take a sheet of armour plate grade steel 2mm thick, about 15mm square.
Drill 1mm diameter holes in a close grid of 10mm each way.
Heat in furnace until surface bubbles.

If you want it buttered, allow several ounces per sheet, allowing for surface roughness.

Or, buy a packet at your local Jewish deli.

ps: it doesn't break at the perforations, or in neat lines.

Enjoy

Jewish joke.

A Jewish man took his Passover lunch to eat outside in the park. He sat down on a bench and began eating.

A little while later a blind man came by and sat down next to him.

Feeling neighbourly, the Jewish man passed a sheet of matzo to the blind man.

The blind man ran his fingers over the matzo for a few minutes, looked puzzled, and finally exclaimed, "Who wrote this c**p?"

Please let me start a thread for jokes.

I am sure humour will show its hoary head!

Trying a link - its a very long description of restoring  an old radio - very interesting only for those interested

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB37DyAQazw

OK, I see that when entering the url  there is no formatting info that it is a url, but the URL in [] in the preview mode shows that.

By the way, the time shown in the messages list appears to be one hour on. The last was posted 12.00, and the list shows 1300. Does the list time use GMT or BST?

This one will be posted at 12:02

Having opened the picture, I can't see how to close it and return to the message.

EDIT:

I also can't see how to return to the write message pane from a preview.

How do we enter pictures, and quotes?
The links just above the write message box and to the right aren't much help to me. Will there be an easy way to insert hyperlinks, quotes, pictures and text adjustments, anything like the serif Lounge ways.

EDIT

I have found out how to enter pictures as attachments, I've attached one here. Can a picture be entered in the body of the message text?

Hi Jack

Actually for me "jacksjacobs" carries more mana than "jackneve".  Which reminds me you never answered a question I asked way back.  Did you have relatives that lived in London SE24?

(1) jackneve is like fishn'chips.  I really wanted to use jayesjay which preserves my name initials without ready identification of my full name.

(2) I don't think I have any relatives in the SE24 area.  One family near Orpington.

I am ever hopeful that this grand opportunity to keep in touch with our well established friends will prosper, and suck-in a good  number of our golden oldies and fresh posters, too.

Thank you, Alfred, and may your endeavours flourish!
