William wrote:A copy of a print publication must be sent within one month of publication to The British Library.
Just as a point of information, they style themselves as ‘the British Library’ rather than ‘The British Library’. Please see https://www.bl.uk.
William wrote:The British Library has Reading Rooms…
I think Donald Trump is very largely responsible for the use in English text of capital letters where none are needed! The British Library has reading rooms.
William wrote:…at London and in Yorkshire.
1. Why ‘at London’ instead of ‘in London’? The former sounds rather unnatural to me.
2. Yorkshire is a big place! The one in Yorkshire is in (or at!) Boston Spa, a village in the Leeds metropolitan district of West Yorkshire.

You make it sound as though there’s an institution named ‘The British Library for Legal Deposit’.
I presume you mean that you’ve sent a copy of the PDF for legal deposit at the British Library. There are five other libraries in the UK Legal Deposit system: please see https://legaldeposit.org/about.

Shouldn't you ask this on the Affinity forum?
No.
The fact that another forum exists does not in any way restrict the range of topics that can be discussed in this forum.
William
Geoff merely suggested asking on another forum (which you may already have done, for all we know). He didn’t say you should ask there instead of here.

I imagine a large expanse of marble makes an excellent heatsink!
Fascinating! Thanks for the link, William.
ericlnz wrote:Drive space is probably the reason as Windows needs spare space. But also with a laptop, long render, and warm weather I'd be suspicious of overheating.
Laptops are particularly prone to overheating if they’re doing anything processor-intensive such as a long video render. I had — and I think I still have, somewhere! — a laptop stand which is designed to prop up the rear of the laptop, and it houses a pair of fans powered via a USB connection.
AlanM-R wrote:The files I mentioned are indeed .mfu files, but only have the text context as noted.
Ah, OK, I’m with you now! Since the unlocking server is offline, we can no longer unlock previously unused codecs. The import/export procedure enables you to take unlock codes from your old machine and use them on your new machine, but that’s clearly no use to you if you now need unlock codes that you never obtained while there was still a mechanism for doing so.
AlanM-R wrote:I have had a look at that, but it relies on an 'unlocked' installation to find the codes. I did try the export from my installation, just in case, but the files (3 different locked modes) all simply contain text 'SerifAVLockFile'.
The export procedure should have resulted in the creation of a *.mfu file.

You’re welcome.
I find it interesting that in relation to some transport vehicles it has become shortened to bus then that shortened version pluralized to buses.
Or sometimes ‘busses’.
William wrote:I find it interesting that the AI got it partly correct.
William
That’s pretty much par for the course, isn’t it?
If you exported your unlock codes from the old installation then you can simply import them into the new one, otherwise you’ll need assistance from one of our fellow forum members.
AlanM-R wrote:I do also have PhPX8 installed on a laptop but I am not sure whether it is the disk or download version.
Any advice welcome.
The product key only needs to be correct for the product that you’re trying to install (e.g. beginning with ‘HPX8’ for PhotoPlus X8). It doesn’t matter whether you’re installing from a disc or a download, so if you have your old product key it should still work.
If you need another product key, please send an email to admin[at]punster[dot]me and I’ll be happy to help.

Sure, I can help with that! Here’s an SVG text file depicting a landscape with the broad gauge locomotive Firefly:

I don’t see any fire, but that locomotive does look as though it’s able to fly!

William wrote:I wonder if this is to do with the use of http rather than https.
No, that isn’t the explanation. If you were trying to use the HTTPS protocol to access a website that doesn’t have an SSL certificate and an SSL/TLS layer, the browser will display a warning about the connection being ‘untrusted’ or ‘not secure’.
It looks as though we have no choice but to go in via the ‘front door’ and follow the links from there.
Thanks for the link.
Curiously, those links don’t work for me. If I go to http://www.ouiker.com I get redirected to http://www.ouiker.com/fra, but if I try to go directly to the latter URL then I get a ’Not Found’ error.
As it’s the first Saturday in October, today is Digital Scrapbooking Day. It’s also World Card-making Day.
FYI, FWIW, YMMV, E&OE. All sales are final: absolutely no refunds.
Albert does not need to know the language in which Sonja works.
Extending the simulation, Sonja can be sending out localizable emails to
various people in various countries and upon receipt each email is
localized into the language being used by the person at that location.
So this suggestion is based on my opinion that that would be good to be
able to do. I do not know if it can already be done.
What particularly grabbed my attention was the last sentence:
I do not know if it can already be done.
If I were considering doing something like this, I would give very high priority to finding out whether it can already be done! Quite apart from not wishing to waste time and effort on repeating someone else’s work, I might be able to build on what they’ve put together.
Second Post Office IT system faulty and may have caused wrongful convictions, report finds
Capture, an early piece of accounting software developed in-house by the [UK] Post Office, was rolled out in the 1990s to around 2,500 Post Office branches.
A damning report published today concludes that there is a “reasonable likelihood” that Capture would have caused sub-postmasters to suffer financial shortfalls.

Presumably something on your system is causing a problem. Anyway for simple requirements there are other options as you mention.
You can use the System File Checker to verify the integrity of the protected operating system files on your computer (and, if necessary, repair them).

Wasn’t Stroudley’s livery named Improved Engine Green (IEG)?
Severn Bore, huh? Well, that was more interesting than its title suggests!
