ROFL!
Easily found via the online Help page that I mentioned earlier:
Isn't this a little bit like RTFM?
Could you please share how for the benefit of others who might find this thread in future?
Now perhaps we can raise the tone back up to an adult level?
I am sorry that you are disappointed that I don't share your negativity. It does not, however, make my point of view childish, and it certainly does not give you the right to make a comment like this. However, I shall overlook it.
Now, let's just get real here: I have my opinion, and you have yours, and both are valid. Neither of us can claim to be any more 'right' than the other: your negative appraisal may prove to be correct in the long run, but so might my more optimistic one.
Ali if you want to be a Canva shill flounce off and join their Discord.
This is also uncalled for. It's not about being a 'Canva shill' (whatever that is): it's about remaining loyal to Serif, and actually seeing a lot of good in what has happened. I am already on Discord, by the way.
You seem to be suggesting that opposing what's happened is a prerequisite of being here: I think you will find that those of us who are happy about it will remain welcome here, too, but that will be for Alfred to decide.
You might be a Canvanought, as you are leaving, but those that remain will be Canvanauts.
I have good reason to believe that the Layout side of things will be just as important to Serif/Canva as the other studios. I refuse to be brow-beaten by negativity: there's a lot to be happy about today.
Just noticed that some of the help tutorials have been posted here: https://creofora.com/forum/index.php?th … -v3-links/
CreoFora is another third party forum dedicated to Affinity that complements Alfred's forum quite nicely.
Well, I know - it's the irony of ironies!
If you steer clear of the general-affinity-chat section, it's not as bad as it could be, though. It's halfway to usable, for now, until (hopefully) this forum and CreoFora gain traction.
I noticed some tutorials (help articles) being posted on Discord yesterday, but cannot find any today (things move too fast over there). I have asked where these files can be found and will post a link here later, if I get to know where they are. I am pretty sure there is one for those of us moving from V2 to Affinity Studio.
I am happy. What we have is not very far from what I had imagined it would be.
Whilst the dreadful speculation is over, the angst is only just beginning: Discord is full of disgruntled people who've argued for a whole month leading up to this and are arguing again now and have been since yesterday's launch: they obviously can't be happy, whichever way things go. It beggars belief, quite frankly. If they are so damned disaffected, why don't they just flounce off somewhere else as they have been threatening to do ad nauseam for weeks?
Hopefully the dust will settle soon and the more rational voices will gain more prominence. The world moves on, and nobody is likely to be 100% happy however things play out.
Well, I have started looking at Affinity, I've watched Ash's video (the full 22-minute version) and I have to say that I am happy. It's pretty much what I had expected.
I predicted a mixed economy where subscriptions were concerned, and that is what we have got (you pay for the Canva AI bit, if you want it). I did not believe that the app would otherwise be free: that's a surprise, but not an unwelcome one.
There was speculation that the three apps might be rolled into one: given that the architecture for this was already there from the very outset, this is not that much of a surprise, either, and now that I am beginning to find my way around the updated interface, I think it's going to work well.
We haven't lost any functionality: all of the V2 functionality is there, albeit some of it is not in the same place, and there are some new features, with a promise of more in the future that will remain part of the free app. For example, a sophisticated blend tool is on its way.
Unsurprisingly, the loudest voices on Discord who did not want a subscription-based model are now complaining because it's free; those who didn't want AI as standard are complaining because it's there (even though they don't need to use it unless they want to). Really, you couldn't make it up! However, at least some new sections have appeared on Discord over the past 24 hours that will make it a little bit easier to use (threaded sections).
All in all, apart from the download being leaked before anyone who'd signed up got their 'first peek' E-mails, for me, yesterday played out pretty much as I had hoped, with a couple of surprises. I remain optimistic, and having to access the Internet when launching for the first time, having to have a free Canva account and having to access Help files online really don't bother me one jot.
Wait and see with the rest of us (including Alfred).
There is a big announcement on Canva's YouTube channel at the same time (probably not a coincidence):
It's going to be livestreamed on Insta (as I understand it) at 1700 GMT.
Just realised, sorry - doh!
What did you find?
Thank you for posting this. It resonates closely with my own expectations, so hopefully it's close to the truth!
Can anyone who had upgraded to 2.6.5 still access their online account?
The update does not affect your access to your account, which is via the Affinity website, not via the software. I logged into my account only this morning and everything is still there as it should be.
If bugs have been fixed, then yes, of course, and I have updated (it's an update, not an upgrade - subtle difference).
The 2.6.5 update is now available when you launch your Affinity apps. It's a bug-fix update (don't know if it's the last) for V2.
Thanks everyone.
It looks like WYSIWYG Web Builder I would have to arrange the web hosting etc which I don't know how to do! So I might stick with Wix or variant for now.
Yes, you would. It's not hard, but if you prefer not to, stick with Wix or SquareSpace.
You are getting unhappy about assumptions. All of this is out of your control. Why make yourself unhappy about something that is far from certain?
My dad talks about it a lot - he was a big fan! That and The Goons.
Hoping they are really designers, and not just influences.
Some people just can't see the glass half full ...
"It's being so cheerful that keeps me going." (Mona Lott - ITMA)
It's not new information, though: there was an Instagram teaser by made.by.James on 08 October that made this pretty clear.
It doesn't tell us anything we don't already know, but it's good to know that a group of designers who are Affinity users have been involved in the background.
