Ordinary ‘bond’ paper is roughly 80 gsm, so 160 gsm is what I would classify as thin card. 350 gsm is quite thick.

Chemicals in the paper react with the chemicals in the pens to make different colours show up.

However, depending how one distinguishes one item from another, one can think of it as many more than 557 items, because some items are listed as "an assortment".

For example,

So Tesco has counted that as one item, but I tend to think of it as three items.

Three different items would require three different product codes.

It is like an art form getting one's preferences expressed in the 55 letters, digits, spaces and some punctuation and signs allowed for each type of item.

So a note something like the following.

1 Purple 1 White if poss please OR 2 purple OR 2 white

just in case they do not have one of the requested colours and wonder whether to send two of one colour or one each of the requested colour they have and black, though the message does not indicate what to do if there are only black ones there, as in whether to send two blacks ones or put not available.

Although that message doesn’t explicitly indicate what to do if only black ones are available, the note does say “if poss please” and it doesn’t say “only purple or white”, so it would make sense for the personal shopper to pick black ones if that’s all they have (safe in the knowledge that the customer could reject them at the point of delivery).

Putting up interest rates increases the cost of borrowing, which encourages people to be more careful about what they spend. The consequent decrease in demand for goods and services results in reduced prices, or at least a reduction in any price increases.

But some time later I saw another article and it seemed ssensible in that the two things, to be or seem to be entangled had at some previous time needed to to be together.

I’m afraid I can’t quite make sense of this, William. Could you … er … disentangle it for me, please?

I’m immediately reminded of ‘Half A Sixpence’, the musical adaptation of H.G. Wells’ novel ‘Kipps’.

In the event, the title is not accurate as to what happened.

I’m afraid I don’t see it that way, William. The title is

Eco-warriors block Pope’s Christmas tree from being felled

and towards the end of the article it says

The problem appeared close to being resolved on Tuesday when forestry officials said they would give Rosello a tree from another part of Abruzzo so that the town could then donate it to the Vatican.

In other words, they decided not to donate the tree that was originally chosen.

Alas, the web address that is cast on the sculpture no longer works.

As you noted way back in February 2015, the *.com address doesn’t work but the *.co.uk address still does.

It all ended as the earphones were flimsy and broke. I got some more but they broke too. I really wanted just a plug-in aerial without the flimsy bit but I don't know if they are available.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve used lightweight headphones instead of earphones.

I have been trying to find Composition with Red, Yellow, Blue, and Black, 1921 on the web, thus far without success. I have found various Mondrian pictures that have similar titles, but not that exact one. Does it actually exist?

There’s a ‘Composition with Blue, Red, Yellow and Black’ dated 1922 rather than 1921 (and, of course, the date isn’t part of the title).

So I decided to order one.

But I was not logged on, and when I logged on I found they are not available at the Tesco store from which my grocery orders are delivered, probably because it is a Tesco SuperStore, which is quite large but not as large as the big stores, whatever they are called.

So I rang Tesco and a helpful lady has sent a request that they become stocked there.

So hopefully my request will be successful.

Tesco can be good about such requests.

Useful to know!

If I had been logged on I would not even know now of those webcams.

They are not a Tesco own label product, so if Tesco don't have them available at the local store I might be able to get one mail order from somewhere else.

It can be quite fascinating to see what’s listed when you’re not logged in.

The Trust brand name has been around for very many years. Their products generally seem to be good value, often aimed at the budget end of the market but still delivering reasonable performance.

I watched the following video yesterday. does one of those sockets act in such a way that it could be used for the aerial of a built-in radio receiver, a link to earphones, and also as input for an external microphone when recording a video?

That seems unlikely! An earphone socket is an output socket, but for a microphone you obviously want an input socket. Although it’s possible that the device is designed to make use of the built-in microphone in your phone, I haven’t investigated and therefore can’t say how realistic a possibility that is.

Sorry I didn’t get back to you yesterday, Bob. As you surmised, renaming WebPlusDb.txt will force WebPlus to create a new file at the next upload attempt. It doesn’t matter whether the file has been renamed to ‘WebPlus.old’, ‘WebPlus.old.txt’ or ‘WebPlus.txt.old’ as long as you can identify it if necessary.

Bob Keen wrote:

The problem that I hit was finding a way to amend the WebPlusDb.txt file. I tried to change it in the Maintain file section but it would not permit me to amend the file extension. I just want to avoid a 10 minute plus wait every time I upload even the smallest file.

I hope that explains it.

Thanks, Bob. You’ve explained it very clearly!

If ‘Maintain Website’ won’t let you do it (for whatever reason) you’ll have to resort to using the file manager in your hosting control panel, or a third-party utility such as FileZilla.

I’m not sure what you mean, Bob. If you choose to do a full upload, there’s no need for the FTP uploader to work out what needs updating.

Good news, Bob! Thanks for the update.

The remote manifest file allows the FTP uploader in WebPlus to work out what it needs to do for an incremental update. If you rename or delete the manifest then the uploader won’t have the necessary information for an incremental update, so it will simply do a full upload instead.

The microphone gadget seems to be be a simple karaoke device, with earphones to allow you to monitor the results without disturbing the neighbours too much!

The Astrolight will gradually drain the battery if there is no mains power. For emergency lighting, you’d be better off buying a lamp that can be recharged either via your laptop or via a mobile phone charger.

Vlogging is video blogging. Is that something you want to get involved in? If so, I can’t imagine why a kit like that wouldn’t work with a laptop computer.

I am unable to upload anything as the host has suspended the site.

Suspending the site should only mean that you can’t visit it via a browser. Are you saying you can’t access the files on the hosting server via ‘Maintain Website’ within WebPlus or via your hosting control panel (cPanel, or Plesk, or whatever)? How are you supposed to replace the infected files if you can’t upload new ones??

Bob Keen wrote:

How do I rename this file? Is it simply a case of going into Maintain Site and then changing the file name in the tree that appears?

Yes, that should do the trick.

Ah, the add an attachment only becomes available after one has requested and received a Preview.

It’s immediately available to me as I type this, but that will be because I’ve quoted part of your post. You can also use the ‘Post reply’ link at the top of the thread.

It seems that the option to add an attachment is only unavailable if you opt to post a quick reply without a preview.

William wrote:

Can one attach a PDF document to a post in this forum?

There should be an ‘Attachments’ section below the message composition text box, with a ‘Choose File’ link to browse to the file and an ‘Add file’ button to attach it.
