Topic: Mini PC
If anyone is thinking about moving to using a mini pc, here’s my experience of one. Not an in depth review but just a few simple points.
Nearly one year ago I decided to replace my desktop with something comparable in speed, storage, and using Windows10 and Office pro2019.
After reading and youtubing a number of reviews I quite liked the thought of using a mini pc and ordered one directly from China (Banggood.com) which was:
T-Bao TBOOK MN35 AMD Ryzen 5 3550H Mini PC. (16GB DDR4, 512GB NVME SSD, Radeon Vega 8 Graphics 2.1GHz to 3.7GHz )
Quite daunting when I first unpacked it - 130mm x 130mm x 50mm (5” x 5” x 2”). Is this really going to do the same job as a desktop pc? As the original m.2 SSD was a no-name unit and too small, I changed it for an Adata XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB M.2. Loaded Windows 10 pro, MS Office, and all other programs. It has a printer plugged into it, sd card reader adaptor, a soundbar and the router. Keyboard and mouse use the Bluetooth facility.
On the plus side:
The small size of this unit has allowed me to make a DIY all in one pc without the drawbacks of a real all in one. Using a £7 two piece VESA bracket from amazon, the first piece fits to the 100mm screw centres on the back of the monitor. After drilling a 5mm hole at a 100mm centres in the second piece, the pc was mounted on that. This piece slides into the first piece.
Ample external connectors.
The previous desktop pc had a 450w power supply and the mini takes 65w so giving a saving on power.
It will take an additional drive (sata) that fits in the lid, and which I use to clone the main drive.
Other drives can be added via the external usb ports
On the negative side: None of these bother me but could be important to other users.
The only upgrades besides the disks, are improvements to the wireless and bluetooth.
Audio, video and other cards cannot be fitted or changed.
Fan noise could be an issue for some users when the processor is working hard.
Conclusion:
Would I buy another one? Yes I would. For me it does everything I need it to do and it does it quickly.
If anyone would like photo's or any other information, please ask.
