Topic: Rules of a competition
I think it was in early 2023 that part of a well-known UK-based professional institution announced a competition for "The best PhD thesis of 2022" in that subject area. i know, 'in their opinion' but there we are.
Now I was not a potential entrant and not connected in any way to anyone who might be, however, one part of their rules concerned me - and I emailed and wrote so - and I am wondering what readers of this thread think of the issue about which I expressed concern.
In their rules, where, if I remember correctly, entry could be by the new PhD graduate, or a supervisor and so on, and required not only a copy of the PhD thesis, but a curriculum vitae, including details of earlier degree(s), including degree classification, and where obtained.
In my email I expressed the view that if it i supposed to be for the best PhD thesis of 2022, why are they asking for all the other information? Is it on the PhD thesis or on the PhD thesis and the curriculum vitae etc..
I got a reply saying they would consider my views in relation to future events, but I have not noticed anything since, not that I have particularly searched and it might have been somewhere in a newsletter that I did not read.
But what do readers here think about this issue please?
