Topic: Brush tools not working in PhPX8

When trying to use any of the Brush Tools in PhPX8, they either do not function or cause the program to crash. Even when I use the program without selecting any of these tools, when closing it I get a series of error message pop-up windows of the form: "Failed to save document:C:\Users\PC-User\AppData\Roaming\Serif\PhotoPlus\18\Brush Tips\[filename].tbr   Unspecified error" - one for each of the tools. A bit of investigation shows that the path is 'hidden' at the 'AppData' level.

When the program crashes, the standard Serif error report pop-up is created with access to the appropriate error report files.

I have done a complete uninstall of the program and reinstalled, from the original disc, but the problem is still there. All assistance gratefully received!

Welcome, Alan! Thanks for joining my merry little band.

I seem to remember that the fix for your problem is to reset your user settings, but simply reinstalling the program leaves those settings intact. If you launch the program with the Ctrl key depressed, you should get a dialog popping up to ask whether you want to reset your user settings: put a tick in the ‘Also delete local settings files’ checkbox, if there is one, and then press ‘OK’.

Re: Brush tools not working in PhPX8

Your memory has not failed. Your suggestion has done the job, although at the expense of removing my keyboard shortcuts and toolbar modifications. I did try to see whether copying the unaffected folders in the '...\AppData\......\18\' path from an existing backup would do the job, but the program wouldn't complete loading (it opened and then hung), so I had to re-start it using Ctrl again.
I still use PhP8 as my primary image editing tool. Although I did purchase Affinity Photo, I found that some of its processes are more complex and less intuitive than PhP. I also use PagePlus, which I keep going with largely out of familiarity. This means that it is simple to use PhP to edit images in PP, which is not compatible with editing in Affinity.
Many thanks

Thanks for the feedback, Alan. I’m sorry you lost your custom settings, but I don’t suppose they were much use to you if you couldn’t run the program properly! I hope it behaves itself from here on in.
