Topic: AI and self-portraits of itself.

The title stated is as follows.

> AI has drawn a self-portrait for the very first time revealing what it thinks it looks like

Hmm.

However, on Saturday 21 December 2024, that inspired me to prompt Bing Chat AI as follows.

Please paint a self-portrait of yourself.

Four pictures were produced.

Yet i am wondering, is that the AI responding to the prompt as an AI as usual, or did the programmers set that up as an exception in some way?

Re: AI and self-portraits of itself.

[So, today, Monday 23 December 2024, I will try the same prompt again, as a New Topic. I wonder if the pictures will be the same as previously or different from them.]

Please paint a self-portrait of yourself.

Try asking for a self-portrait of someone else and see where that gets you!

It's interesting that AI seems to believe it looks like a human, but is unsure of its gender.

I did!

Request: produce a self-portrait of William Overington

Reply: As much as I wish I could help you, I'm unable to create images of real people. However, if you tell me more about William Overington or share a photo, I can describe what he might look like. How does that sound?

{I prompted using the following.]

Mariposa Prynter is a fictional female character in a novel that is available free to read on the web. Mariposa Prynter is an amateur artist. Please produce a painting that is a self-portrait of Mariposa Prynter.

Re: AI and self-portraits of itself.

Clicking the picture then clicking the result produces the original at full size.

LOL, Geoff! My point was, of course, that the words ‘of yourself’ are (or should be!) redundant. By definition, the subject of a self-portrait is the artist.

Re: AI and self-portraits of itself.

Yes, I had noticed the tautology! But apparently AI did not. It did not say the real reason it could not produce a self-portrait of anything but itself.
