Topic: Clodagh Rodgers

I thought I would post this sad news, just in case William had missed it. I knew her best from when she represented the UK in the Eurovision song contest in 1971 with this song. https://youtu.be/_tYrXVIS60A this is the BBC's report. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj3x8mpznlgo

Re: Clodagh Rodgers

Thanks, Albert. I suspect that those of us who know of her would mostly know her from that song!

Re: Clodagh Rodgers

Thanks, Albert.

So when she performed as shown in that video she was 24.

I remember the song, but only the chorus, because the verses in the video were a surprise to me.

I suppose that the four backing singers are elderly ladies now, hopefully still alive, and hopefully happy.

Re: Clodagh Rodgers

I asked Gemini about the backing singers and got this reply.

Unfortunately, information about the specific names of the backing singers for Clodagh Rodgers at the 1971 Eurovision Song Contest is not readily available in the resources I have access to.

While details about the song "Jack in the Box," her performance, and the overall results of the contest are well-documented, the names of the individual backing vocalists are not typically highlighted in Eurovision historical records.

Perhaps we will never know...

Re: Clodagh Rodgers

According to Copilot she did not have backing singers. She was accompanied by dancers.

Clodagh Rodgers represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1971 with her song "Jack in the Box." While she performed solo, she was accompanied by a group of dancers on stage rather than backup singers. The dancers added visual flair to her performance, which helped her secure fourth place in the competition

By the way, I do not recall the song at all. But I didn't have a TV then either.

Re: Clodagh Rodgers

Having watched it again Geoff, I can comfortably say that there were no dancers, unless you count shifting your weight from your left foot to your right foot and back again as dancing and they lifted one of their arms up right at the very end. Maybe at one stage she did have dancers, but they did not perform at the competition.

Re: Clodagh Rodgers

Having just seen it on youtube, I quite agree. I guess Copilot didn't have a TV either!

It reminds how goddam awful almost all entries were! Abba excepted.

Re: Clodagh Rodgers

As you appear keen to promote my videos William, what about Mary Hopkin who represented the UK a year before Coldagh Rodgers in 1970...  https://youtu.be/6OM7W57aIzw

Re: Clodagh Rodgers

Another one that's playing stretched out (4:3 to 16:9)  How do I stop YouTube stretching it?
