Thanks Eric, very interesting. I had no idea that you could still buy a non-smartphone, or a mobile as I like to call them.
Why does Ms West call dumbphones a "brick"? IMO they are less brick like than a smartphone. Occasionally I have picked up my wife's smartphone and found it to be quite cumbersome, having to pick it up and being careful not to press any of the buttons on the side for fear of turning it off. They do not sit comfortably in the hand for me being quite a big, wide rectangular thing. Phones of the 1980s were, by today's standards, massive, which is where the term "brick" was used. I wonder what Ms West would have made of them...
It is a pity that the BBC calls it a "dumbphone".

The BBC is simply quoting what the majority of people call it, hence the phrase "so-called 'dumbphone''"
