Re: Need a new phone?

Thanks Eric, very interesting. I had no idea that you could still buy a non-smartphone, or a mobile as I like to call them.

Why does Ms West call dumbphones a "brick"? IMO they are less brick like than a smartphone. Occasionally I have picked up my wife's smartphone and found it to be quite  cumbersome, having to pick it up and being careful not to press any of the buttons on the side for fear of turning it off. They do not sit comfortably in the hand for me being quite a big, wide  rectangular thing. Phones of the 1980s were, by today's standards, massive, which is where the term "brick" was used. I wonder what Ms West would have made of them...

Re: Need a new phone?

It is a pity that the BBC calls it a "dumbphone".

Double standards.

Re: Need a new phone?

I wonder what the minimum requirement is to be named a smartphone?

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure.

What would you call it then William?

The BBC is simply quoting what the majority of people call it, hence the phrase "so-called 'dumbphone''"
