Has anyone noticed what I added to the wiki earlier this morning?
William
I’ve noticed, but I wonder whether anyone else has! (This would, of course, require the visitor to know that it wasn’t there before this morning.)

I can try, William, but you haven’t stated what needs fixing.

The gaps between the lines in the Isometric Village.
William
Ah, I thought you meant something else that I didn’t recall seeing there yesterday. The Isometric Village seems to be newer than that.
I think the problem is that you’ve used a table but you haven’t set the cell spacing correctly.
Thank you.
I'll try to find out if that can be adjusted.
William
Thank you.

You’re welcome, but I’ve just tried adding
|| border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"
and it hasn’t done much, if anything.
Looking at it carefully how it is now, it seems correct along each row, the outstanding problem seems to be beween rows: what if it were text would be called the leading (from the strips of lead betwen rows of characters when handsetting metal type).
So it is as if we need to reduce the leading to zero, if that is possible.
William
More development at the isometric village today,
Activity is underway,
It occurs to me that if the individual uints were encoded in a colour font, then such displays could be sent in emails.
With OpenType glyph substitution each unit could be accessed using a seuence of characters. If the sequences were ll of the same length and an "opener" common to all were used and the various distinguishing parts of sequences were all in digits, then the underlying text displays would be clearly set out, assisting editing.
However, some units with small right-angled triangles in the corners would be needed for highest quality displays, but a good idea of the intended layout could be indicated with a lower quality display.
There are now five areas in the isometric village. Please add your own ideas.
I have made each unit as 346 pixels wide by 200 pixels high.
So a ratio of approximately root 3 to 1, so as to give a good approximation to the 30 degrees angle of an isometric projection.
I made the images using Microsoft Paint.
William
I have updated the previous post.

As you’ll have noticed, William, I’ve been playing with this but can’t see how to do it. If you go to
https://www.w3schools.com/html//tryit.a … ellpadding
and change
th, td {
padding: 15px;
to
th, td {
padding: 0px;
the padding below the text looks the same as the padding above. However, if you replace one of the name lines with HTML code for an image, I expect you’ll find (as I did) that you still get a gap at the bottom. For example, try replacing
<td>Jackson</td>
with
<td><img src=https://www.allaboutbirds.org/news/wp-content/themes/html5blank-stable/images/blue-winged-warbler.jpg" alt"blue-winged warbler"></img></td>
you still get a gap at the bottom
Reviewing my steps, I see that I got rid of that gap by specifying
line-height:0px;
on the W3Schools ‘Tryit’ page, but the same trick doesn’t work on the PmWiki page.
I have just noticed that you have fixed the gaps in the Isometric Village.
Thank you.
William
Have you noticed the forest walk, entered through the walkway in the row of shops?

The gaps are much smaller now, but they’re still present for me.
Have you noticed the forest walk, entered through the walkway in the row of shops?
William
I hadn’t noticed, but it’s been quite a while since I last visited the ‘ShopsWithFreeStuff’ page.

Here is a direct link, for you and for anyone else who chooses to try the forest walk.

After entering the forest walk (wiki page) one needs to scroll slowly down the page.
William
Here is a direct link, for you and for anyone else who chooses to try the forest walk.
That’s a direct link to the ‘ShopsWithFreeStuff’ page. The ‘ForestWalk’ page is here.
The ‘ForestWalk’ page is here.
The trees look identical, apart from one which is smaller than the others! It isn’t clear how one is meant to ‘walk’ between them.
I opine that it is advisible to set it up so that. . . . .
You seem to be continuously pining - for the fiords, William ?.
A statement that you opine for some action, as you frequently do, is not a request to do it.
I think that you could, more to the point, suggest the action you think desirable
I suggest it is set up so that. . . . .
A cleaner statement.

I linked to the shops page as that is from where one enters the forest walk.
Did you notice where the end of the walk leads?
William

The smaller one is the same image. I don't at present know why it is displayed smaller.
Well, there is a large gap between the trees as one scrolls down the page, that is where one 'walks'.
So the route winds along a natural pathway between the trees.
William
Ah, it appears that uploading images needs to be specifically enabled by the administrator.

I opine that it is advisible to set it up so that only registered forum members can upload images, or edit the wiki.

Hello Jack,
I use the word 'opine' so as clearly express an opinion.
Some people might put "I think", but to me that that is ambiguous because use of "I think" could be expressing an opinion or could be expressing that one is not certain.
"I suggest" could be regarded as telling someone what to do. "I opine" is simply expressing my opinion.
