Topic: Text Frames have 2 columns

using updated PPx9. This irritation just began in the last few days, open a new standard text frame and it has two columns. I only want one column and if I want more, I use the Text Frame dialog.

I deleted one column and tried used Tools>Default Settings, but that didn't change anything and new text boxes continue to open with two columns.

Suggestions and solutions appreciated.

Hi Tom,

Try Format/Update Object Default

Re: Text Frames have 2 columns

Thanks Geoff, I tried that but upon reopening PP, same problem exists.

Ah yes, but then you have to Save Default Settings from the Tools menu, ensuring that the Object Styles box is checked.

Re: Text Frames have 2 columns

Well, that was a bummer. I did Save Default Settings after changing the text frame object to one column but it didn't take. I uninstalled the program (after resetting it failed to fix the issue) and the 2-column text frame is still the default. I said the hell with it and reinstalled PPx6 which is working just fine.

Thanks anyway Geoff.

Resetting it certainly should have fixed the issue, Tom! Did you perhaps neglect to put a tick in the ‘Also delete local settings files’ checkbox?

Alfred, I did neglect to tick that box, but I uninstalled the program using Revo Uninstaller, taking care to remove all traces of PPx9. To the best of my knowledge that ensured a clean re-install of PPx9. Since text boxes still open with 2 columns, the problem remains after the reinstall. I'm happy with x6 so I'm not going to worry about the x9 version any longer.

That certainly should have done the needful, so it’s a bit of a mystery! However, if X6 does everything you want then there’s obviously no point in worrying about X9.

Re: Text Frames have 2 columns

Sorry to hear that Tom. Creating a single column frame, using Format, Update Object Default, and then using Tools/Save Default Settings, putting a tick by Object Styles in the dialogue box, and clicking Save seems to work OK here.

As Alfred says, I would have thought that resetting would also do the trick.
