Re: Post your videos here

I actually found his opera singing more pleasant than the earlier video.

What's the purpose of what's hanging around his chest?  I hope it wasn't live.

It's all part of the rock n roll show and possibly he may do it because he couldn't portray it anyway else. We all act differently when we are in fancy dress if you think about it. All the guys in the band are serious about their music and all hold down other jobs. I have got to know them and they are really decent blokes with families regardless of how they perform and come across on stage.
The guy on the left is the "Keith Richard" of the band !

Re: Post your videos here

Hi Guys, still in Spain until next week (as long as the flight isn't cancelled again) I went down the road to the river this afternoon to check out the wildlife. This river changes over the year from flooding to drying up and I have seen it at both extremes in the last 50 years and at the moment it is very low. I made a quick video that I hastily edited while watching the Nadal match at the same time so look for the dodgy edit !

Thanks Gordon. Some excellent wildlife shots there.

Cheers Eric although it might look easy to film but maxed out on the telephoto and hand held at my age isn't easy anymore.

Re: Post your videos here

That was a lovely video Gordon, very restful and peaceful, in contrast to your latest submissions!!

Loved the coots with their chicks, not to mention the terrapin.

You managed to get nice and close up with your telephoto lens, and I did not detect any wobble, I guess you left a lot of it on the cutting room floor?

Re: Post your videos here

Wind is our biggest problem with handheld cameras.

Cheers , In fact I used most of the footage as I was in a bit of a hurry to get back to watch the Nadal match ! I have always had a steady hand even now compared to a lot of my similar aged friends, however I was using my Sony  AX53 that is as good as it gets as far as stability is concerned. Eric is quite right in saying that the wind is the worse thing for hand held cameras. I was making a video for some friends that we took on a trip down the coast to show them the best parts of our area and the whole day was virtually gale force !. That was very difficult and a lot of the scenes I had to substitute some panned still shots from the 4k footage. It worked ok but of course there was no movement of foliage etc. I don't use 4k much but it comes in handy when enlarging parts before rendering in HD.

Yet another visit to RHS Hyde Hall in Essex. Quite a short one, just over 5 minutes, I hope you enjoy it.

Yes I liked that, I note it was one of those days when you just get the perfect shot set up and focussed in and suddenly the wind blows it all away ! so I presume that the bee in the flower shot had to have several "clapper board" takes !
I haven't actually made anything constructive for myself except the piece of nonsense in the last post, but I have loads in the can to edit from Spain and several films for others including a 70th birthday that I filmed at the 360 "I" in Brighton.  The problem is that with the gorgeous weather we are having in the UK at the moment the last thing I want to do is sit indoors editing on a computer ! Cheers

Thanks Paul, very interesting. It must be frustrating being in a group and not able to spend time in areas where you'd like to concentrate on shooting.

Thanks Gordon.  It looks a dry area.  I recall a recent TV news item about fires in Spain.  Were they near you?

Re: Post your videos here

I'm very glad that you replied to Gordon's post Eric, his 'odd moment video' completely passed me by!!

It was thoroughly entertaining, loved the shot of the dragon fly, (I may have got the species wrong), that was a brilliant capture, the rest of the video was none too shabby either!!

I suppose you are right Eric, but Autumn seems a very long way away now, we are experiencing some very hot weather here in southern England. A week or two back it got to just over 40 degrees, thankfully it has now fallen back to the high 20s, which is quite hot enough for me.

The start of the video was on my lawn at home in the UK and the first 49 seconds were also taken around my UK area, the view of the cornfield was taken from our garden gate ! Everything else was from our Spanish area and the white village on the hill is Mojacar that is about a mile behind us.
We have had a fair number of fires around us this year in Spain, fortunately our premises are quite well protected as we are surrounded by a lot of firebreaks and quite high concrete walls, the firefighters do an amazing job dumping water from helicopters and converted seaplanes to dampen things down.
In 2009 a lot of us were advised to go and sleep on the beach when the fires were really bad, and some of the buildings on the outskirts of Mojacar village were damaged as fires climbed up the hillsides.
If we had to get out in a hurry it's not really a problem for us as the beach is a 3 minutes walk down the road.

Yes. Shooting while touring with a group  is challenging but it gives opportunity to get the history straight.  By that I mean that us old people do forget exactly where we have been and when.  For example, I remember we did take a cruise that spent time in New Zealand.  I can remember Auckland -- but not much about Wellington.  Well -- It's all in the video.  Dates and details.  All I need is a system to be able to find that particular video on my media drive and wham -- all the details about our day in Wellington are on display.  No arguing with the video, whereas left to our poor memories and we get dates wrong by magnitudes of years!

No question, my wife and I are the biggest fans of our own "trip videos" .. like fine wine, they take time to mature, but once enough time has gone by we love playing them back.  We always say "OMG I have forgotten that happened" ... A good example is that I did remember that Le Harve was bombed by the Allies in WWII costing the locals enormously in loss of the life and property but I had forgot how bad that really was ...also .. pronouncing Le Harve correctly .. it's all in the video.

But not how to spell it! smile

The destruction of Le Havre was a sad affair. It helped with its liberation, but was it really necessary at that stage of the war?

According to Wikipedia, The Britilsh commander asked the Germans to surrender prior to the aerial bombardment.  The German commander countered by requested that the French civilians be allowed to leave.   The British commander refused and proceeded with the bombing.  Of course, the German commander could have surrendered the garrison to save lives, but his orders were to resist to the last man.  After the German commander was wounded in the thigh, he personally surrendered without formally surrendering the garrison.
The air and naval bombardments killed about 2,000 French civilians and 19 Germans

Re: Post your videos here

Bear in mind that at that time, the Germans had launched thousands of V1 towards London, and had begun sending V2s as well. About a dozen V1s and a V2 landed within a mile of my home, three of them within a quarter mile, so any strike against any Germans at that time was not questioned.

Re: Post your videos here

One of our favorite parts of the coastline in Spain is the Macenas beach area,It's about 4 miles down the coast from our place and it's difficult to show just how beautiful it is just by filming small parts from the land. So load up the drone complete with GoPro and a fully charged battery and send it on it's way !

Thank you GStree for the nice comment.  I watched your drone footage posted above.  I have no experience with drones.  We will be taking a cruise to Alaska next summer (2023) and I got to wondering if folks would be bringing drones to launch from the ship to truly capture the scenery?  I would imagine they won't allow this as it could be safety hazard.  But it's a great tool for getting exactly the kind of footage you got.  Very impressive.
