Topic: Is this purported virus report genuine?

I started this computer up above 5 minutes ago and go a screen purportedly from McAfee, of which I saved a Print Screen image, here attached.

Perhaps foolishly I clicked a button and it gave this picture.

The thing is, I bought this computer in a March, probably 2021, and have not bought McAfee but I think it was bundled as a free trial. yet 22 months seems a peculiar time for it to have expired, rather than, say, 6 months or 12 months.

Re: Is this purported virus report genuine?

I sense treachery.

Re: Is this purported virus report genuine?

The interesting thing is that the computer is running Windows 10S.

But if it is a scam then it got through, though maybe it just displays the same picture for everybody and does not actually do a scan, so not stopped from doing it.

Re: Is this purported virus report genuine?

No , No it was loaded as part of the MS rubbish that comes with windows 10 along with a lot of other dross, it won't do you any harm.
If I were you I'd go on line and look for ways to get rid of this stuff with win10 which is not needed, there is plenty of good advice on line.
I use an app called Winaero Tweaker which you can get online. It helps you make some useful adjustments to get rid of irritations in windows. I can recommend it.

It looks as though Winaero Tweaker isn’t available as an app from the Microsoft Store, in which case it won’t be possible to install it on Windows 10S.

I suspect it is a scam. Is it really from McAfee? What does View Source reveal?

Avast, Adaware and others offer good free antivirus.

Re: Is this purported virus report genuine?

You can download it from:
https://winaero.com/winaero-tweaker/#download
It will download as a zip file and it will run and install OK on my Windows11 OS.

As I indicated last night, John, I don’t think William can use it on his system.

What Is Windows 10 S, and How Is It Different?
