Re: Post your videos here

Thanks Paul.  Cemeteries are interesting places.

I've been having to sit around lately resting a leg, playing 50s and 60s music on CDs and reminiscing.  It's over two years now since I made the move into my retirement village.  A bigger change in lifestyle than I realised.  A good move, so here from 2021 "On the Move".  https://vimeo.com/513632928 I probably posted it on the old Serif forum

One of our walks from our house in the UK from our garden is solely across fields and the river to a small graveyard where my parents and lots of people that I grew up with are buried. It's only when I look at the ages of some of them that I realize I'm living on borrowed time !!!!    It's quite well kept but unfortunately the local badgers love digging it up! I often sit for a while and reminiscing of those days from the early 50s when everything ran at a different pace and life seemed perfect for me growing up.

The "moving" film was very well filmed and I thought that I had seen it before? and of course I had on the old Serif forum as you said.

Re: Post your videos here

Being an old Hippie aged 76 I still love this type of music that I filmed in a local beach bar down here in Spain the other week. All of the band have been friends of mine for quite a while.
Not the best video that I have made but I like it.

Thanks Paul.  Brilliant.  Well acted.  Where do you get your ideas from?  And please what's in the bag?

You asked the "big" question. Where do I get my story ideas?   By far, this is the hardest part of doing these little films.  I wish I could tell you -- but ideas sort of come to me and I get a start.  Generally, I start shooting test scenes and more ideas present themselves.  It's a process.  If I'm lucky, along the way, the ideas start to gel and mesh into something resembling a story with an ending.  Getting a viable ending is the hardest part.  Once I have an ending, I start shooting in earnest with costumes and settings.

I do write a script, but I don't stick to it.  Remember, this is suppose to be "fun" for me and not work!  Along the way, I generally hit a point where I lose confidence entirely and decide that the entire thing needs to be scrapped.  But, somehow, I recover the next day and out of the mess I get it done.  The most fun is final editing with music, sound effects and little transition touches that bring things alive.

What's in the bag?  That's up to you.

My guess - stale sandwiches.

I am still running MoviePlus X6 and edited this little number with it that I filmed at one of my local pubs at the weekend.
I have known these guys for years in my area from various bands who always put on a good show. Have a listen through a decent sound system or headphones for best audio. I filmed this with a Panasonic camcorder and a GoPro with a Zoom audio recorder. It wasn't the best setup for the band as we kept having intermittent rain all evening.

Nicely done considering conditions.  Those GoPro's are incredible.

Inspirational for us old geezers.  Rock on.

NZ is a young country so our history is  relatively recent.  A recent visit to a historical village for "A"Glimpse Of Nostalgia" https://vimeo.com/845670430

Re: Post your videos here

Thanks Eric, it was lovely to see all that heritage well preserved. A great video.
Looks like you’ve got more rain on the way. Hope there’s no flooding this time.
We live in Nelson, have had our moments weather- wise!

Cheers Eric I enjoyed that, being informative as well as being well filmed/edited.
I probably have said in the past that in the UK we live in a 500 year old oak beamed house that is a listed building so we are looking at history every day.
I had to chuckle when we were in the States many years back and were looking around inside a "historic" building. The majority of the other people that day were American and were all "OOOs & RRRs" when looking at the fittings and furniture. my wife whispered to me "it looks just like the inside of our house !

Gordon - A subject for an interesting video?  You could include something about your local area which presumably also has history.  Or perhaps you already have such a video?

Recent news items have mentioned the high temperatures in parts of Europe.   I gather this includes Spain.  Speaking to my brother in South London last Saturday he told me they have not had high temps.

I should really make a video of the area as it is often used for period films that are on general release and TV.  Although I have made films of certain parts over the years for our village Facebook page I have never made a complete one.
I suppose that now I have more time on my hands in retirement I should do something ? The problem is that I am not too sure where to start, and after watching some of your films of your area I don't think that I could get near your standards?
Regarding the high temperatures I haven't noticed anything different to be honest both here and in Spain. We have been in Mojacar on and off for 50 years and at this time of the year it has always been up in the high 30s lower 40s !  Several years back some friends of ours asked if they could use our place in Spain but it would have to be August as it was in the school holidays. We said of course but warned them that it would be "very hot", their reply was "it has been raining for weeks and it's cold as well and we love the heat"
Anyway they went and I gave them a list of the best places to go to for eating and sightseeing. After they came back we asked them where they went and what did they think of the general area. The reply was "we didn't go anywhere as it was too hot and spent everyday in your swimming pool" !!!!

Beeleigh Abbey Gardens near Malden in Essex. https://youtu.be/PoXc6T-JwLs Visited on the recommendation of my sister-in-law. Quite a pretty little garden, here is some more info about it. https://www.visitmaldon.co.uk/beeleigh-abbey/ Hope you enjoy the video. Steve.

Re: Post your videos here

Thanks Albert/Steve.  You've been quiet lately.

I noticed several artists painting. Was there something special on when you visited?

Re: Post your videos here

Not as far as I know Eric. From what I saw of the paintings they were all very accomplished.

I have been a bit quiet recently haven't I. Just feeling a bit under the weather I'm afraid, with a few health problems - nuff said.

Re: Post your videos here

As you in the Northern hemisphere head towards winter we hopefully are moving out of it.  It was very wet earlier but now has been dry for a while but cold.  Well cold for us.  It's 16 degrees C today.

Anyway a short 5 minute "Garden" video - "Winter at the Wintergardens" - https://vimeo.com/858289917

Re: Post your videos here

Nicely done Eric. On hearing your dulcet tones, Jill came running out of the bathroom to watch your film - we both enjoyed watching it. I do not remember watching it before, so I assumed it was a new one?

Re: Post your videos here

Thanks Albert.  Yes it's new.

Hail is uncommon for Auckland, at least where I live.  It hailed on the morning of the trip to the Wintergarden but by the afternoon the weather had improved as you could see.  A few days later it hailed again so I quickly grabbed my camera and shot it from my balcony which is one floor up.

Further down on the volcanic plateau skifields have had some of their best snow for years.
