Topic: United Kingdom Barcoded postage stamps

Royal Mail has issued some more barcoded postage stamps.

I notice that the colour of the 2nd class one is different from the colour of the original 2nd class one that was issued in 2021.

Some of the 2021 Christmas stamps had barcodes.

This next is partly from memory, so may not be all correct .

UK postage stamps to the basic standard, non-commemorative, all used to say "postage paid" and the amount. This was before 1st and 2nd class, printed instead without the amounts, but including 1st and 2nd.

When the price paid changed (always upwards) the base colour of the stamp changed.
I understand that in recent years, not sure about now, even when the price changed, the stamps were accepted for the indicated delivery rate.

Re: United Kingdom Barcoded postage stamps

Ah, it is apparently BBC Breakfast. Full screen shows BBC on the red mug.

The word Breakfast is on the computers and there is a mark that may well be BBC but I cannot make it out.

Re: United Kingdom Barcoded postage stamps

Well, yes, I was just about to post that BBC Breakfast appears on screen for a very short period at the very start of the video.

The still image in your post makes it look far more obvious than it is in the video.

You posted while I was composing my previous reply. Anyway, the mark above the word ‘Breakfast’ is indeed the BBC logo.

The mugs and laptop lids are clearly visible for half a minute from about eight seconds after the start of the video.

Re: United Kingdom Barcoded postage stamps

My wife and I watch BBC Breakfast every day and I had no need to look for logos on mugs etc. It's a very good programme, informative and entertaining with just about the right amount of banter. It tackles serious issues as well as lighthearted stuff, they interview pop stars, actors and review TV programmes, and not just BBC programmes.

Re: United Kingdom Barcoded postage stamps

I wonder if it is no coincidence that a sheep is being used to publicise barcodes. smile

Re: United Kingdom Barcoded postage stamps

Thank you.

Looking at

https://shop.royalmail.com/barcoded-nvis-stamp-set

is that a type 29 barcode or a new format?

William

Re: United Kingdom Barcoded postage stamps

I have found the following.

http://aisukltd.com/barcode-verificatio … -barcodes/

I have not read or understood it all yet, but I include the link as it may be that the barcode on the stamps is a particular application of a barcode type that is defined in an international standard.

I have found the following.

https://www.iso.org/obp/ui/#iso:std:iso … ed-2:v1:en

Only a part is available free but I mention the link in case it might be helpful.

I have not studied it yet.

It fits the spec for Type 29 (16 x 48 modules). What makes you wonder whether it might be a new format? https://punster.me/images/unsure.gif
