Re: Post your videos here

Down here 20 years ago a new hotel was started and almost finished being built but was declared illegal and has just been left !
It was built on what we would call "green belt land" and was obviously done with a few "backhanders" !! and of course it was built overnight so nobody saw it being built !!
Further along the beach people just started to put a few rocks on top of one another for a bit of fun a few years back and others just keep adding to it, including Sue an Me.

I am always amazed at the zoom and stability on my Sony AX53 camcorder and I did a quick test today while I was in Garrucha harbor. This is handheld (believe it or not) and it was windy as well !

That's impressive.

Thanks Gordon.  I wonder how the stones/rocks will survive if the area gets a bad storm.  A lot of effort has obviously gone into the displays.

We get a few very windy storms down here from time to time that do blow a few of the smaller displays down, however some of the bigger stones are very heavy as I found out when trying to put one back into place, as I failed! Although I am pretty fit for my age this particular one was probably near on 1cwt, and although I could pick it off the ground there was no way I could lift it up onto where it had been originally !!
Incidentally the opening shot on that film was done in one continuous take in camera. It took about 3 trial shots to get it "sort of right" as the big hotel is a long way down the beach.

This is my latest video piece.  ChatGPT helped me write the script.

It also uses "text to speech" and "speech to speech".

I think it shows what can be done using these new technologies and a green screen.

I liked that Paul, very professional compared to my humble "flicks"
Lets face it all this modern technology/cameras/audio gear is amazing and enables anyone that is clever enough to master it (and act) to make really good films for peanuts ! well done.

Re: Post your videos here

Paul,

That is absolutely brilliant.

Re: Post your videos here

Yes, well done Paul.

Gordon - do AI eat peanuts?

Perhaps the question should actually be: do peanuts eat (or otherwise make use of) really good films?

Re: Post your videos here

The trick is that AI's need electricity.  In this sense they do "eat". The power requirements are going to be substantial when AI is running the world, and there are literally millions of them.  The costs will not be "peanuts".

Re: Post your videos here

Our hot sticky weather continues.

A recent visit to an historic home, Highwic.  Well historic for NZ but fairly modern for those of you with older histories.

The Devon connection is interesting for me as my mother was born in Devon at "Up Exe Rowe R.D".  She was only there briefly as her family moved to London.

Well done Eric .. the pacing and intelligent narrative is always welcome.  Never boring to me.  I wonder if your appeal is for seniors only?   Do you ever get comments from the younger audience?

Alfred Buckland must have been quite a guy. I was motivated to do some research and discovered his older brother was a Member of Parliament in NZ .. that must have helped.

Eric, l have always been interested in any of your well made  films of places in NZ as I do have relations over there on my fathers side.
I have never been, but my dad did go over when he was 95! so I still have a few years left (God willing).

You’re not your dad, Gordon! You never know how much longer you’ll be fit and able to travel, so if I were you I’d try to arrange a trip sooner rather than later.

I’ve been wondering the same thing, Gordon! Maybe it’s something to do with the equinox the other day.

At this moment I am in the UK with problems of flooding of our property. The crazy thing is that in Spain we have the opposite with a serious water shortage. We have restrictions and this is in what is effectively spring and coming into the holiday season !
We have been flushing our toilet with buckets of water from the swimming pool for quite a while and we are not allowed to refill it. It's just as well that we have a much larger pool 2 minutes walk down the road, it's called the Mediterranean Ocean !

It always seems very counterintuitive that there can be water shortages when an ocean is within easy reach.

It has been quiet around here.  I just watched one of my old videos from about 15 years back.  If you've got 9 minutes, here it is:

Re: Post your videos here

Another 'historical' video for you taken at one of my favourite RHS gardens at Hyde Hall back in 2015. A fraction over 12 minutes long, and taken in the day when videoing youngsters was not seen as some kind of perversion as it appears to be today - times were more innocent then. Enough of these ramblings, please enjoy the flowers trees, shrubs and people young and old - oh and a few robins were around too. https://youtu.be/PBBKGLcEz0s
