Topic: Pick color for transparency?

Hello All,

Recently I needed to take the white background out of some clipart so it would not be in a white box when pasted into the document with a color background.  I found some other software where I could pick the color in the clipart to be made transparent.  I clicked white and it worked.

I see PagePlus has transparency that can be applied to the whole object, but that's just to fade the whole object.

Does anyone know if you can make a certain color transparent in PagePlus?  I'm working with X15.

Thanks....Walt

PagePlus X15?  I thought X9 was the last version?

Re: Pick color for transparency?

I guess you are using version X5.

You could use the Cutout Studio, or, if the white is pure, that is has exactly the same rgb values throughout, you could use Format/Picture/Picture Transparency.

Note that jpg does not support transparency, so you'll need png or gif.

Re: Pick color for transparency?

Yes!  X5.

I did try applying transparency to the whole object and the white is uniform.  But the transparency applied to the whole object, not just the white so that didn't work.

I love PagePlus and have been using it for about a dozen years.  I tell people it's the best program I've ever used and am continually surprised at still finding new great things I can do.  I just had an important need for a good feathering application and it was right there and exactly what I needed.  I've never used it before.

But I think this ability to pick a certain color and make it transparent maybe  just isn't in PagePlus, or at least X5.  I did find it in MS Publisher which I never use, but it was handy because it has that feature under the "recolor" function.   So I made the white background clipart transparent, saved the image and went right back to PagePlus.  I still wouldn't be surprised if there was some way to do the same thing in PagePlus that I'm just not seeing!

As far as I remember (I no longer have PPX5 installed) the Cutout Studio is included in PPX5. That will allow you to eliminate any part of an image you choose. Have you tried it?

Re: Pick color for transparency?

Yes, I've tried that and, in theory, it could work with considerable TLC.  You have to go area by area in a complex image and the cutout isn't always what you need so you need to go back and do it again.  The other method is to select a color you want to make fully transparent and then everything in the image in that color becomes transparent all at once.  It's very quick.  For something like a clipart image with a white background, the white background is all exactly the same color and removing does make the image transparent.  If I didn't have this other quick way of doing it I would go back to PP and use the cutout studio as you suggested.  Thanks!
