Topic: Are electric cars as bad as diesel?

Some food for thought in this Daily Mail article.

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure.

Re: Are electric cars as bad as diesel?

Just last week, a report by the Commons Transport Committee found that taxpayers face an eye-watering £35 billion bill to plug the gap created by the switch to electric cars. At present, owners of such cars pay neither fuel duty, which nets £28 billion every year, nor vehicle exercise duty, which brings in £7 billion. The revenue is spent on schools, hospitals and other priorities such as the police, as well as fixing roads.

Re: Are electric cars as bad as diesel?

Unless the governments actually ban petrol and diesel cars the majority of the world won't change to electric vehicles for a long time.
Being a motor mechanic since 1962 and running a successful garage business I have followed this closely for the last few years and just about anyone that I have spoken to has been disappointed with them.
Not only the mileage range but the failure to supply charging points along with the actual cost of producing the batteries from non renewable sources.
I can't see the USA giving up their enormous cars that are needed to transport one or two people about on 8 lane motorways either !
I live in Spain for a fair amount of time each year and there is very little interest at the moment even though they have a very good renewable energy system from the sun and wind power.
As I stated unless conventional ICE vehicles are actually banned from the road I can't see them taking over for a long time and I would think that hydrogen power will be the next thing to come to the fore.
