Topic: Features coming and going

Sorry this is a bit of a long story but I hope someone can offer some words of wisdom.

As of two days ago I was happily editing a production, with only one minor problem. Yesterday a major problem arose. Later in the day both problems had gone away. Today both are back.

I have some later video-editing software, but I went back to MoviePlus X6 to see whether it could handle .MOB files from DVDs, and I was delighted to find that it can, whereas the more modern software can't.

The minor problem is that, in Galleries, all but one of the audio volume fade options are missing. Fortunately the one that remains is audio slow in-out, and one can drag the length shorter or longer.

The major problem is that, after I make any change at all in the menu designer and close that window, clicking Yes causes nothing at all to happen. The only way out is to click No, losing the change.

After much messing about including a new installation of MoviePlus X6 on another computer (which runs OK but can't load the .MOB files because Dolby something-or-other needs an unlock code) and copying files from the new installation to the old one, both problems were still there.

Then a bit later, for no apparent reason, all the audio volume fade options were back and Yes to Apply changes was working. Wonderful! All was well  and I thought I wouldn't need to post here except perhaps to recount this odd tale.

But today both the original problems are back again.

I would be very grateful for any enlightenment as to what on earth is going on and how to get the features back.

I'm replying to my own post to recount further developments.

When I ran the production again after that posting, the missing features had come back again.

And I managed to finish the production and burn a DVD, though MoviePlus warned me it might not fit so I selected "Fit to Disc".

I then decided to delete the last few clips (saving the production under a new name of course) to see whether the quality might be better. But now when I get to the point of clicking on Write, nothing happens.

MOB files?  Do you mean VOB?  If so change the suffix from VOB to mpg and other software should read them.  As for the Dolby AC3 codec, export your unlock codes from your usual pc and then import them into MVP on your other pc.

Yes I did mean VOB. Dunno why I wrote MOB.
Many thanks for the suggestion of changing the suffix. I've just a quick test of that with one file and the later video editor now loads it without complaint. Meanwhile MoviePlus has been behaving itself sufficiently for me to complete one job.

PS. I have been using MoviePlus on my usual PC, so no need to find and copy unlock codes.

You absolutely do need to copy (or rather, export) your unlock codes! Your ‘usual’ PC will fail eventually, and you’ll be completely stuffed if any of your projects need codecs corresponding to unlock codes that you haven’t kept.

Good advice in principle, but where might I find the unlock code for the Dolby Digital audio decoding that the installation of MoviePlus on the new machine says it needs (whether importing a .VOB file or one renamed to .MPG? I have run MyKeyFinder on the main machine and it has found the registration key for MoviePlus but nothing else in association with that and no Dolby anything.

Anyway the newer software that I also have, which refuses to load .VOB files, loads them quite happily if they are renamed to .MPG.

You are making what is simple very complicated.  You won't "find" the unlock codes.  They are just numbers in the very small file that's created when you export them.  Instructions have been on this forum several times but anyway here is what you need to do.

Open MVP
Go to Tools/Options then the Advanced tab
Click on 'Manage Unlock Codes'
Click on 'Export'
Navigate to where you want the 'mfu' file to be saved and give it a name.

Back up the saved file to somewhere off your pc so you have it for future use, and where it shouldn't get lost.

To import your unlock codes to MVP on another pc or laptop
Open MVP
Go to Tools/Options then the Advanced tab
Click on 'Manage Unlock Codes'
Click on 'Import'
Navigate to where you've placed the file ready to import and click 'Open'

When transferring to another pc it's probably easier to put the mfu file on a usb thumbdrive for importing.  Also note the unlock codes are tied in to your MVP Product Key.  The codes won't import to a MVP installation that has a different PK.

As for VOB/Mpg - if the files audio is Dolby AC3 it will need unlocking whichever file suffix it has.  Not all VOB/Mpg files use AC3 as some use MPEG audio.

I joined this forum to create this thread so had no idea about previous advice concerning unlock codes. Anyway MVP on my notebook computer is now happily loading the .VOB files, so many thanks for sorting me out. Meanwhile the menu designer problem which brought me here hasn't come back and I will just hope that it stays that way.
