Topic: WebPlus X8 and Windows 11

Hi,   Can anyone help me with my issue.

I have used WebPlus X8 for a long time now and don't want to move on,  However all the files i have saved over the years in Windows 10 I can't open now because i am on Windows 11

I don't get any error codes, but just a blank screen when i go to open a file (from a saved project).

Is this because i am on Windows 11 or something else?

The only other thing i have found is that when i open the program - not all the time, but some of the time it asks me to register but of course i can't do that - as i don't have the registration key only the product key.

However when i click on my icon to open up the  program it says that it is registered to me

I hope someone can help me

Welcome, Christine, and thanks for joining my merry little band!

I have no experience of Windows 11, so I’ll leave it to others to offer advice about that, but the registration nag screen is easily dealt with. Simply enter the Universal Registration Key 881887 to make it go away.

I moved to Win 11 late last year. I got rid of a lot of files as I am now retired, but have found one of my old website details tucked away. I still have WebPlus x8.

If I try to open the file from where I have saved it, like you I just get the blank screen.

However, if I then go, within WebPlus to the top left - File > Open > browse to the files, they do come up. I also get the (obvious) warning that a lot of the images I was linked to are no longer available, so would have to find them again, but both the websites I had will still come up this way.

I am potentially at the start of this journey.
I have use WebPlus X8 in a Windows 10 PC for sometime. All the files are on One Drive.

Unfortunately my Windows 10 PC looks like it is at the end of life.

All my other PC's run Windows 11 and are linked on the same One Drive so that is the good news.

My first question is where can I download a copy of WebPlus X8 to install on one of my Windows 11 PC's

Migration from Windows 10 to 11

It looked to me as though the transition was going to be potentially very difficult as my prime reason for wanting to transfer to a Windows 11 Operating system as that my Windows 10 PC was starting to fail and needed more time spent on love and care than I did on the websites I look after.
Luckily I have the Windows 10 PC linked to my Windows 11 using One Drive and all the files that WebPlus uses reside on the Windows 11 PC.

The other plus was that for each website I produced a design specification not only detailing a basic colours and fonts but other important things like ftp user names, passwords, other login details plus the all important WebPlus Product Key.
These were vital.

The first task was to download and make a copy of the relevant install file, then install it (fingers crossed).
This worked without a hitch, including registering it with my original product key.

I then loaded the relevant *.wpp file then saved it as a copy.

Step 2 was, following advice from this forum, to step through each page ensuring that each graphic file was correctly linked.

Step 3 was to repeat the above for each link to internal pages or documents still worked. Correct if not. Fortunately, they all worked.

Step 4 was to repeat Step 2 for each link to external pages, documents or websites.

Step 5 Test the link to the Host Server.

Step 6 PUBLISH and have a large glass of wine.

IT WORKED
