Re: Post your videos here

Thanks Alfred, although we visit there quit a lot, we never get bored with it; there is always something new to admire, or even be surprised by, like those sculptures. In my opinion the only thing wrong with the place is the name "Hyde Hall", it doesn't really sound that exciting to me, but what's in a name, I guess.

The weather perked up a bit last Tuesday, which gave us a chance to visit Hyde Hall in the afternoon. It was still very cold and some of my shots were unusable due to my shaky hands. Had enough shots to make an eight and a half minute video. The highlight for me was the live willow sculptures in the winter garden, they had a sea theme, with models of an octopus and jellyfish - most imaginative.
Please do enjoy  https://youtu.be/nLbRuG2k59g

Albert, we have never been there, however it does look an "interesting" place to go (but on a warm day). As usual a good compilation of what it's like and well filmed. I can't get the enthusiasm to film in the cold as we are now back in the UK for a while and preparing for my and a friends 158th ! birthday party on Monday.

I presume you’re adding the two ages, not averaging them!

Cheers Albert, it's going to be a "smallish do" as at my age most of the people that I grew up with have either moved miles away or are not with us anymore !!

Re: Post your videos here

I don't see much going on here, so I'll try again.

I have something new.  This is my first venture into writing musical theater.

It's a one hour long Internet MUSICAL Version of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility" hosted by Jane herself.  The show runs one hour and covers the entire book.  My hope is that a few of you will find it entertaining enough to see the entire opus.

Please let me know what you think, even if you hate it. I'm feeling that I laid a huge egg !

Re: Post your videos here

Hi Paul,

I guess there are not any Jane Austen fans here, but it is somewhat disappointing that no one else (https://punster.me/serif/viewtopic.php?pid=6503#p6503) has had the courtesy to make any comments at all, positive or negative. Maybe the narrator should have been that distinguished gentleman of your previous videos - but then that would not be as authentic or appropriate!

Geoff

Re: Post your videos here

Geoff, I enjoy Paul's usual videos but I'm sorry something an hour long is too much for me to watch.  I don't have the same concentration span that I had when younger.

I've heard the name Jane Austen but I've no idea who she is, or was.  I'll look her up https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Austen

Re: Post your videos here

Well, Eric, you really do not have to watch the whole hour. Ten minutes would be enough to get a good idea of what Paul is trying to accomplish - a brief musical synopsis of the book.

You don’t have to, but I couldn’t not! I found it hugely enjoyable.

Another bright and sunny day and we decided to journey forth into Surrey to explore the Winkworth Arboretum. Although there were very few leaves on the trees, I found the way the branches turned and twisted made for a very attractive outlook - see if you agree with me? https://youtu.be/JT5NqcAK5Nk Six minutes long.

Yes I did enjoy it, but then I would living amongst such views in the sticks ! At the moment we are enjoying a brief spell of good weather that is supposed to finish this week ?
You showed as much as you could to make a watchable film and you succeeded in that dept !!
I do like a walk amongst the trees from our garden and often walk back with a few bits to help warm our cottage on our wood burning stove for no cost, except to the global warming and air pollution (so we are lead to believe) !
I even walked around the garden yesterday to stop my camcorder from seizing up to make a two minute plus "epic" https://youtu.be/a4XODMMu8CI !!
Also, one and a half hours condensed into one minute ! I filmed this one in the same garden at the same time, but a year or so back.

Thanks Gordon. I enjoyed your two 'epic' videos, especially the spring loaded bumble bee, most imaginative!! Nothing worse than having your camcorder seize up, it happened to me once, but it was the battery running out of juice that 'did' for it.

We have a date to see Shaun the Sheep at Anglesey Abbey before March is out, so we'll see if there is anything worth taking...

Thanks Albert.  A lot of walking.  Surrey was my home county so it's nice to see you pop over there regularly.

What is it about Surrey that makes some people want to leave the country? There are at least two of you here!

Although I was born in Surrey (in the County Borough of Croydon) and lived there for much of my life, I didn't leave Surrey, it was Surrey that left me! A certain woman in Downing Street, in her effort to destroy Britain decided to move Croydon into London! I escaped to the US from London, not from Surrey.

Re: Post your videos here

Although my home county is Surrey it meant nothing as the countryside was a long way away,  Living in SE24 six miles from Charing Cross we were part of London.

As for escaping I was younger and restless.  So on Dec 4, 1970 I left from Heathrow looking for a better life.  It was dull and drizzling.  In Feb 1984 on my only visit back to UK it was still dull and drizzling.  Nothing had changed but now in 2025 the world certainly has.

I just use my Sony AX53 camcorder that has it's own inbuilt time lapse facility. I have several camcorders that I use for multi cam use when filming bands including a Sony AX700/ 2x Panasonic HDC SD900s and a GoPro.  My AX53 is my go to camera for most of my hand held work, especially when going on walks as the stability is one of the best that I have ever found. On a whim I also bought a Panasonic HCX 2000 that is a great camera but I have had it for sale on eBay for a while as I hardly ever used it, and the AX700 has a much larger sensor and does everything that I need. I would accept an offer on it if anyone is interested.

I stand corrected! I was aware that Croydon isn’t in Surrey now, but I didn’t know when it was moved. I might have known that Margaret Hilda would have had something to do with it!!

Re: Post your videos here

I was born in Kent and still love it ! Also I am lucky to have always lived in the actual "countryside"
As I have said in the past I can walk out of my garden gate and walk for miles in totally open countryside and along the river Medway bank that then joins the river Eden in our village. The only problem that we get are floods that can actually stop me driving both ways on the road from our house, but living here for over 70 years it seems normal !https://youtu.be/3_QOnGtWmcU

We first went to Mojacar Spain in 1972 and liked it so much that my girlfriend (now my wife) said "one day I would like a place here" and we did buy one 25 years ago. As we get older we do wonder what we will do in the coming years as "old age is catching us up" and should we sell one or the other. I do realize that we are very lucky to have the choice.

Re: Post your videos here

Two lovely videos there Gordon, thanks for the links. Some very nice detail of the trees in the Kent video, and dare I say it, you looked very young and fit too. How long ago was it? I don't think I would have the patience to place the camera down, walk 100 yards or so, and then go back to recover it, we're all different aren't we.

I seem to remember watching the Spanish video a year or so ago, but it was worth a second watch and I enjoyed it. How will you determine which property to sell, it's a tricky one, in some ways I'm glad I do not have that 'problem'. Has your back fully recovered now, I remember you had an injury a few months back.

Actually Albert it was only a year ago !
You are correct in how to decide on properties! but Sue has always said that she would never want sell our home in the UK !
As for my back problem, it seems ok at the moment but there is no doubt that I have more aches and pains as I get older !! I try to not loaf about on the laptop in front of the fire but this cold spell certainly helps to make a decision !!!!!
What I do to "try" and keep fit is cut and chop up a lot of wood for the wood burning stove that I have collected for nothing around our house.   I also have a good stack from last year from a huge tree that fell in our garden that fortunately missed everything.
