Jim, what is your DVD plug-in unit?   Is it one that has a usb Y connection.  By that I mean it has two connections to your pc.

I think that should only matter if you want to write to a disc, not if you’re merely reading from it to copy or install something. It allows the unit to draw more power than is available from a single USB port, which is necessary if you’re writing a DVD and the external drive doesn’t have its own power supply.

Re: Photoplus x5 Suddenly stopped Working

My experience with an external burner not being recognised was my reason for asking the questions.  As for the Y connection my query had nothing to do with the power required but the order in which the usb plugs are inserted. The main one needed to go in first to solve a situation I had.

Anyway we await details of Jim's DVD unit.

Hi Ericlnz, Thank you and Alfred for replying to my question. The DVD unit plugs into the D insert and has only one cable.

Dear Ericlnz,
Thank both you and Alfred for answering my question.

The unit has one cable and fits into the D on the computer. It appears when I press the PC symbol and it asks to insert a disc when one is in the unit. I have tried the disc several times but it still asks for one to be inserted.

Have you inspected the disc to make sure that it’s clean and free from scratches? Do you have any other discs that you could try (to rule out the possibility that it’s the drive rather than the PhotoPlus X5 program disc that’s at fault)?

If you want to clean the disc, make radial strokes (from the centre to the edge) using a soft lint-free cloth with either isopropyl alcohol or no solvent at all. Other alcoholic solvents such as methylated spirits, vodka or whiskey will leave a residue on the disc surface.

Re: Photoplus x5 Suddenly stopped Working

Hi Ericlnz and Alfred,
Thank you for your kind instructions.

There are no scratches on the discs, and I have cleaned them twice with a smooth cloth, but so far, it has had no effect on them.
