Topic: Windows 11 and X5 onwards

Hi

I'm still using WebPlus X5 and have done successfully for approx. 15 years (using XP, 7 & 10). It was an absolute bargain costing me £9.95 directly from Serif. However, due to a serious problem with my Windows 10 machine, I've been forced into purchasing a new laptop which unsurprisingly came with Windows 11.

My first question is, does anybody use WebPlus X5 under Windows 11? I don't expect there is. It installed 'successfully', but is unusable due to the screen not displaying correctly. It also allows me to open existing WPP files, but there is no way they can be changed.

I can see that people are using Webplus under Windows 11. So, secondly, if I stay with Webplus would I be able to open my X5 files using, say, X8? i.e. is there an upgrade path between different releases?

I have had good recommendations for an alternative, which I will look at later, but would like to run with what I know for the time being and have installed X5 on an old Windows 7 laptop to keep me going.

Any assistance will be most appreciated.

I’ve never used Windows 11, so I’m not in a position to comment on that side of things, but (as far as I’m aware) WPX8 should be able to open X5 files without any issues. However, there hasn’t been an upgrade path since Serif stopped selling their ‘legacy’ software products more than five years ago. WebPlus was discontinued way back at the beginning of 2017.

Thanks for the info. I have been thinking I should get a copy of X8 to do a little R&D to see how it goes.

As a footnote to my original post and for anyone who might be faced with a similar situation, the following will get Serif WebPlus X5 satisfactorily working under Windows 11 (well, it did for me)…

Right-click the shortcut you use run Serif (or maybe the .exe file itself, although I haven't tried this).

Choose Properties.
Go to the Compatibility tab.
Click the button Change high DPI settings.
Tick the box Override high DPI scaling behaviour.
In the dropdown below it, choose System (Enhanced).
Click Apply then OK.
Close and reopen the app.

Good luck if you're reading this after experiencing the same problems I had. Long live WebPlus X5!
