Where did the word “fflyd” come from? Google Translate tells me that it means “fleet”; it also tells me that the Welsh words for “aqueduct” and “viaduct” are “dyfrbont” and “traphont”, respectively.

Re: Original pictures generated by Bing Chat AI and later by Copilot

{This picture came some time after the start of a conversation with Copliot this morning.}

{The conversation had started with the following.}

[WJGO]
In Welsh, how does one know if eto means again or yet?

[Copliot]
Great question, William! The Welsh word "eto" can mean either "again" or "yet", and the key to understanding which meaning is intended lies in the context of the sentence. Here's how to tell the difference:

...

The conversation wandered through various aspects of Welsh.

...

[WJGO]
Can you translate into Welsh the following please. A lady reading haiku to an elephant in a field of lavender in flower, with a Roman aqueduct in the background.

[Copilot]
Here’s a natural Welsh translation of your richly detailed sentence:

“Dynes yn darllen haiku i eliffant mewn cae o lafant ar flodau, gyda fflyd Rufeinig yn y cefndir.”

Word Breakdown
Dynes = Lady / Woman

Yn darllen haiku = Reading haiku

I eliffant = To an elephant

Mewn cae o lafant ar flodau = In a field of lavender in flower

Cae = Field

Lafant = Lavender

Ar flodau = In bloom (literally “on flowers”) — blodau mutates to flodau after ar

Gyda fflyd Rufeinig yn y cefndir = With a Roman aqueduct in the background

Fflyd Rufeinig = Roman aqueduct (literally “Roman conduit”)

Yn y cefndir = In the background

Would you like to use this as an image prompt or explore how poetic imagery is expressed in Welsh?

[WJGO]
Yes please.

Re: Original pictures generated by Bing Chat AI and later by Copilot

{In response to Alfred's question, the conversation about Welsh with Copliot has been continued.}

{I have used this forum's bold facility so as to use bold in Copilot's reply.}

[WJGO]
Does Copilot use Bing translate or some other system?

[Copilot]
Great question, William. I don’t use Bing Translate specifically — my translations come from the language capabilities built into the AI model I’m based on. That means I generate translations using my own understanding of grammar, vocabulary, and context, rather than relying on an external translation engine.

That said, when I search the web to check or compare translations, I might refer to sources like Bing Translate, Microsoft Learn, or other reputable linguistic databases — but the actual translation you get from me is natively generated, not copied or fetched from another system.

Would you like to test me with a tricky Welsh sentence or compare how I translate something versus Bing Translate?

[WJGO]
Y dyfrbont

[Copliot]
The Welsh term “y dyfrbont” translates to “the aqueduct” in English.

Word Breakdown

Dyfrbont = Aqueduct

Literally: dyfr (water) + bont (bridge)

Y dyfrbont = The aqueduct

Example in Context

One of the most famous uses of the word is in Dyfrbont Pontcysyllte, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in North Wales — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a masterpiece of engineering built by Thomas Telford in the early 1800s2.

Would you like to explore more Welsh compound words like this, or dive into the history of Pontcysyllte itself?

The latest three images you’ve posted here are devoid of any context! The first of the three is clearly an image in portrait format of a woman painting a landscape in portrait format. The second one is just as clearly an image in landscape format of a woman painting a portrait in portrait format. What was your prompt for the third one?

Re: Original pictures generated by Bing Chat AI and later by Copilot

The prompt for that picture was as follows.

An art exhibition on Laputa.

However, it was some way into a conversation with Copliot where several pictures for Affinity in the Alps had been produced, including for the après-giclée party, and I, enjoying the imaginary scenario, decided to ask for a picture of an art exhibition on Laputa.

Re: Original pictures generated by Bing Chat AI and later by Copilot

Copilot wrote as follows about the picture.

Here it is — the art exhibition on Laputa! A surreal and fantastical showcase set among moss-covered ruins and cascading waterfalls, with vibrant paintings and curious guests beneath the floating island’s gaze. Let me know if you’d like to explore the artworks in more detail or imagine the artists behind them.

Re: Original pictures generated by Bing Chat AI and later by Copilot

Here are some pictures Copilot produced as a result of my prompts. They are designs for merchandise for an art show sponsored by a company that produces desktop publishing software. The circle logo is included as a placeholder for the logo of such a company. Also, I have realized that the designs for the planters need modifying - can you work out why? Hey ho they may never get produced as products, though they might be, but here are the pictures.

Your question is (deliberately?) rather vague. Are you referring to aesthetics or practicality? If the former, what do you feel is wrong with them? And if the latter, are you talking about manufacture or usage?

The paintings on the panels are what Copilot generated, other paintings could be used.

The problems relate as to whether the planter has a drainage hole or not.

Whether it does or does not, either way the illustration is problematic for one reason or another.

If the planter has a drainage hole then it needs a drip tray beneath it.

If the planter does not have a drainage hole, then the plant needs to be in a pot that is placed in the planter, which is probably not then properly called a planter, yet acts as a decorative container and the drip tray for the pot.

Re: Original pictures generated by Bing Chat AI and later by Copilot

For what it’s worth, I’ve always regarded the word ‘planter’ as shorthand for ‘decorative container for one or more plants’. The individual plants may be in their own pots with drainage holes, but the planter itself would, as you say, need a drip tray beneath it if it had a hole or holes of its own.

The title of this thread is an oxymoron.  Bing Chat AI can not create original artwork.
EVERYTHING it creates is using data from a lot of stolen work..

There are planters and there are planters... I had to get planning permission for the 5 in my front garden. I kid you not.
SO a drip try is going to be fun.
