Re: Affinity in the Alps

I am experimenting with Copilot.

Thus far I have tried this prompt. It is reasonably effective.

In the style of a holodeck, please generate a happy simulation of people gathering in the Swiss Alps for an Affinity in the Alps art exhibition of art produced using Affinity software programs, and enjoying an après-giclée party. Please construct the simulation such that I can interact with it. In addition, if I write ARCH in capital letters then I have access to you to discuss the simulation.

Re: Affinity in the Alps

I ran the simulation and I was asked, in text, if I would like to add something into a layered image, as it would have contributions from various attendees.

In text, I said that I was adding a symbol that means Welcome in any language and a curator approached and asked if it could be used in a display. And, in text, I added the Thank you for visiting symbol. Then I used ARCH and asked Copliot if Copilot could produce illustrations if I uploaded the designs. In the event, there were various attempts and reuploads and the Welcome one, bright with a picture of mountains got the symbol mangled. But the Thank you for visiting one is nice.

Here is the symbol that I uploaded and the picture that Copliot generated.

It is rather dark but there are people watching a display on a screen.

However, the fact that it will do it at all is amazing.

Your meaning would be more immediately clear if you could bring yourself to add punctuation and/or style the text of your posts. I think the first symbol you were adding means “Welcome” rather than “Welcome in any language”. Likewise, I infer that you then added the “Thank you for visiting” symbol, although what you’ve written here is all too easily read (at least by me!) as “Thank you for visiting symbol”.

You also need a comma after “any language”. I would have written the same words as either

In text, I said that I was adding a symbol that means “Welcome” in any language, and a curator approached and asked if it could be used in a display. And, in text, I added the “Thank you for visiting” symbol.

or

In text, I said that I was adding a symbol that means Welcome in any language, and a curator approached and asked if it could be used in a display. And, in text, I added the Thank you for visiting symbol.

Re: Affinity in the Alps

I have had another go at running the simulation this morning.

I added this symbol

Here is the result.

Following this post I am hoping to post transcripts of some posts that are in the Affinity forum, starting from the post linked in the first post in this thread.

This thread I considered in scope as it was suggesting something to the Affinity team.

These forums are intended specifically for discussions about the Affinity apps, not for making general suggestions to the Affinity team. What kind of reaction do you think you would get if you posted here to suggest, say, that Affinity staff should book a two-week holiday in a chalet in the Swiss Alps?

The art exhibition will take place in the Swiss Alps, and will travel and accommodation be covered? Good job William, I would definitely like to attend

Affinity in the Alps

I put this into Copilot

Please write a happy story about people gathering in the Swiss Alps for an Affinity in the Alps art exhibition of art produced using Affinity software programs, and enjoying an après-giclée party.

Lots of output was produced. Very positive about the annual event.

It stands to reason that it was very positive, doesn’t it, given that you had asked Copilot to “write a happy story about people gathering in the Swiss Alps for an Affinity in the Alps art exhibition”?

Well,yes.

Copliot had found out about Affinity software.

Some wonderful imagery described in text.

Someone had made a photo montage of a giraffe amongst alpine pine trees.

As the moon rose over the Alps lots of people gathered for a group photo, their tablet computers glowing like lanterns.

There is also a URL (described as a placeholder) for detais about the four day event next year included in the Press Release about the event.

It was like dreaming while reading. Wonderful.

I presume that’s meant to be a hashtag for a holiday, but it looks more like a hashtag for a meeting. A summit meeting, perhaps?

There the is an emoji after the ? - I am not sure what it is

Why not include a smiley here? Just type a colon followed by a closing parenthesis. smile

Copilot output lots hashtags as part of its output.

Various hashtags, some of which reference Affinity in some way and some which are more general.

#AffinityInTheAlps

#MadeWithAffinity

#DigitalArtSummit

#AprèsGiclée

#AffinityDesigner #AffinityPhoto #AffinityPublisher

#SwissArtScene

Copilot output some text, then asked me if I would like (then named something like Press Release, or the following example)

> Would you like me to turn this into a short film script or a promotional piece for an art magazine?

I answered simply

Yes please

each time and lots of output was produced.

Then I did a New and tried again with the same initial prompt.

This time I was offered a fictional interview with one of the artitsts, I chose that and it was produced. Not me doing the interviewing, Copliot produced text for both the interviewer and the artist.

quote of part of interview

Interviewer: What drew you to Affinity software for this kind of work?

Tobias: Speed and freedom. I used to feel boxed in by subscription models and bloated interfaces. Affinity gives me the tools without the noise. I can sketch, layout, and export without ever leaving the zone. Plus, the precision is perfect for when I do want to break the rules intentionally.

end of quote of part of interview

I know that there is pushback against generative AI, but that seems good about Affinity products.

Pasting (Unicode?) emojis doesn’t work, but shortcuts such as

and BBCode such as

work fine.
