Thanks Alfred ! I actually filmed this yesterday as we are back in Blighty and having a clear up in the garden. The nest site is actually covered over with a sheet of roofing felt where the slow worms and grass snakes normally live. This is the second breed this year from the same nest. I never know what I will find when I pull the sheet away !

Re: Post your videos here

What a lovely video Gordon, they did look sweet didn't they, (rhetorical).

Took a trip into Gloucestershire last week to be with our friend Richard who took us around his patch. Our first visit was to Stratford Park in Stroud. We watched a lady feeding the swans lettuce, spinach and grains amongst other things, she was quite fascinating, together with the magnificent trees with their autumn colours it made for a lovely afternoon out.

Yes I liked that well done, the colours at his time of the year are one of the first things that we notice when we come back to the UK. The swans and ducks always know just when the feeding is about to appear !  I had exactly the same thing in Spain the day before we flew back as we went to a restaurant right next to a huge expance of water, and of cause just about everybody throws the odd bit of food out for the water birds. I would have thought  that there must have been about 200 ducks and coots at least.    Trees are amazing to film when you get the light about right and I admit that I probably take too much footage of them (at least it is digital these days) and wastage doesn't come into it anymore ! I had too smile at the fallen leaves as our garden is absolutely covered in them and I have been clearing them up most of today.

Re: Post your videos here

Thanks Albert.  Is that you with Jill in Shouty.jpg?

As for the lady feeding it seems, after checking on the internet, that she was providing the right type of food.  Whilst most folk chuck bread at swans, ducks etc it's not really good for them.

I assumed that was Richard! Curiously, next to the attachment icon I see “Shouty.jpg 762.68 kb, file has never been downloaded.” I thought my viewing of it may not have been counted because of admin privileges, but you’ve clearly viewed it, too.

A park not far from where I live has a large pond which is home to various species of waterfowl, and there are numerous signs asking people to refrain from throwing bread into the water: not only because it’s unsuitable for the birds’ digestive systems, but also because it encourages the growth of algae.

Re: Post your videos here

Actually Alfred I've looked at Shouty several times but never clicked on the Download option underneath bottom left.

I don't think it's Richard as he appears in the video with a still camera and has less and whiter hair?  The gentleman in the still is carrying a video camera.

Re: Post your videos here

OK gentlemen, you can stop pondering the identity of "shouty", I have to confess it was young Albert Ross. I have no idea why I appear to be shouting, if fact I'm sure that I wasn't, but I could see that Richard's camera was pointing in my direction... well he always messes around when he thinks I am pointing my camera at him.

I am curious Eric, or maybe I am being a bit thick, but how did you manage to view "shouty" without clicking on the download option?

Re: Post your videos here

Thanks for “fessing up”, Steve! That’s very strange about the download counter: it has clearly worked for other files that have been attached here.

Re: Post your videos here

On Excel Forum the download counter is very inaccurate - same issue. I don't take any notice of it any longer.

I just clicked on the link and the image opens in an Image Preview window.  No download involved.  I've checked my Download folder and it's definitely not there.  At the bottom of the Image Preview is a Download option.

I'm using Firefox.  Maybe other browsers handle it differently.

That would explain why the download counter hasn’t registered any downloads! We’ve all been looking at the ‘Image Preview’ in the browser, so there’s been no need to follow the ‘Download’ route to view it.

Thanks Albert.  They built things to last years ago.  Well partially last anyway.  I always wonder how long it took our ancestors to build castles such as Haglan.  Fortunately UK rarely gets earthquakes and then only small ones otherwise all would be gone.

Well Albert you certainly got it all in !!  It looked like an ideal day lighting wise to get some very good shots with very little shadows well done.  I have never heard of it before but had a look at the history, and it's unfortunate ending.
Castles are very interesting places to visit wherever you are in the world and although we have some in Spain there is nothing like an English one. We have two very close to us in the UK, one in my village of Penshurst and the other in Hever that are great to visit with amazing histories.
In fact there was one on "Channel More 4" (freeview 18) tonight at 9pm of Penshurst Place that was filmed this year with lots of drone footage included, its called "Great Estates From Above"  Towards the end it showed a few shots of the village including the old forge that has been turned into the village shop and post office. From the mid 60s until the 90s my brother and I ran it as a car repair shop. If you can get it on catchup take a look.

I’ve heard of Hever Castle but never visited it. There’s also Leeds Castle, which sounds as though it should be in West Yorkshire!

I hadn’t heard of Penshurst Place until now. Looking it up online tells me that it’s is a ‘fortified manor house’; I haven’t tried to track down an explanation of the difference between a fortified manor house and a castle.

Alfred, I have lived in the village from 1951 and I have seen lots of changes over the years (thankfully mostly OK) my wife still loves it so although we have our "Place in the sun" we will still hang on to it while we are able. The TV program is well worth watching and this is a picture of Penshurst Place.

I’ve just finished watching it. It was interesting, informative and enjoyable, and (exactly as you said) well worth watching.

For our final visit we went to a National Trust property in south Gloucestershire called Dyrham Park. Very picturesque with its magnificent trees and beautiful gardens. https://youtu.be/87WOaEYexuk

Re: Post your videos here

Thanks Albert.  From your opening shots I assume it was a long walk back uphill at the end?

It certainly would have been Eric, but there was a shuttle bus service that operated both ways, there and back.

Another well filmed video Albert, looks like you were lucky with the weather. Also a good filming day for lighting.  I had to smile at the guy using a tiny strimmer for the job he was doing  !

Meanwhile in our village in the UK there is this going on !!
Having lived in Penshurst since 1951 I have seen many film sets based around Penshurst Place. However at this moment you would have to drive by it to see what is happening to believe it ! as there are literally hundreds of cars/ assorted film equipment/temporary enclosures that have filled the castle grounds up !!  I understand that it is for a large future Amazon TV series that will take 6/7 weeks to shoot and probably won't be on the box for a few months.
An update, I can't be 100% but it looks like Road House 3 ? Unsurprisingly, plot details for the upcoming and currently untitled Road House sequel remain a mystery, and it’s also unclear who, besides Jake Gyllenhaal, will return from the original cast. No official release date has been announced either, but Amazon Studios has confirmed that work on the project is ongoing, so it might be a while before any new details are announced.
Perhaps I can get a part as an extra

Those strimmers seemed to be everywhere as we roamed around. So much so that I had to mute most of the soundtrack and substitute it with a soundtrack of birdsong.

Sounds very exciting with a film crew about to start work at Penshurst. We don't subscribe to Amazon TV so we will not be watching the final outcome unfortunately, but good luck at being an extra,

I will possibly walk up there tomorrow and take my best camcorder with the longest lens that I can use handheld.          I used to get on the set of a lot of films in the same place and one year there was a certain actress playing Maid Marian in a spoof Robin Hood film and one of the "daily papers" photographers was trying to get a picture of her in a certain disguise. The photographer was chucked off the set and he asked me to get a close up of her, so I got some terrific shots and developed them in the darkroom. I then sold them to that "daily paper" that were printed in the center pages !!
What the newspaper photographer didn't know is that my wife and her had got quite friendly as she was staying in the village hotel and we had taken her out to Tunbridge Wells a few nights before, so she willingly posed for me !
I also don't subscribe to Amazon but I can normally get most of these things on my Firestick that we use in Spain and the UK.
