Re: Post your videos here

Well things didn't quite go to plan ! for one thing it was raining for most of the day and also any filming was in the big house, so there was nothing to see.
I had a quick walk round with my camera to show our local Facebook page how big the set up is.
Nothing special at all and I hate filming in the rain !!!

Re: Post your videos here

Last Tuesday we took a trip to Sheffield Park in East Sussex to see the Autumnal colours, they were slightly past their best, maybe should have visited a couple of weeks back, but there was enough colour there to make it worth going.

Hope you enjoy my efforts.

Lovely stuff, Steve! That old, gnarled tree is amazing, but there’s clearly plenty more to make a visit worthwhile.

Thanks Steve.  A big "garden" to keep maintained.  We saw a few workers which makes me wonder what size staff is involved.

That’s a good question, Eric. It’s over 250 acres, so I imagine the staffing would have to be quite substantial.

Thanks Alfred, we go there most years at this time of the year and it's always very uplifting and well worth the 90 minute drive.

Not sure that I wanted to be reminded that Christmas is just around the corner Eric, but both Jill and I enjoyed the video very much.
It was good to see that one of the ladies taking pictures with her phone actually remembered to turn her phone into landscape mode, was that something you suggested?

Just 44 days, and counting, until Santa comes a calling!! Can hardly wait...

Assuming you mean 90 minutes each way, that’s three hours for the round trip. Quite a large chunk of the daylight hours, especially at this time of year!

No.  Possibly she couldn't fit the picture in vertically!

Of course I was using a proper video camera.  My 13 year old Canon shooting 1080 50i.

You're right Alfred, at this time of the year we always arrive home in darkness. No great deal. We leave home at 10'o'clock, arrive at 11.30 just in time for elevenses, and by midday we are enjoying ourselves walking around the park. Sheffield Park closes its doors at 4 o'clock, so we have around 3 to 4 hours of 'sight seeing'. It always takes longer getting home as we have to get onto the M25 during the rush hour, which can add an extra half an hour to the journey time.

Ah yes, the “rush hour”, when the last thing anyone can do is rush! I’ve always wondered who dreamed up that great misnomer.

Since many major highways are often called parkways (with no 'parking' allowed), there must be a reversed name logic applied when traffic is at a standstill-- hence the "rush hour."

One may conclude that to enter a busy highway is to enter the "Twilight Zone", and we all know how strange things become when Rod Sterling appears.

Have a good day! wink

It’s all very confusing, at least potentially, especially if you’re unfamiliar with differences between American English and British English! Here in the UK, pedestrians are supposed to walk on the pavement because that’s what we call the sidewalk. In the US the pavement is “that which is paved”, the carriageway where the moving vehicles are.

Re: Post your videos here

Sorry not answering any posts but we have been off the Landline and internet for over a week !!! Openreach/BT or whatever they are named this week have been saying that a contractor has stolen our phone line !!!!  So much for the modern mulitiplex digital system !!! It would appear that outside contractors are allowed to virtually do what they like with the phone lines !                                                          We had some old friends down a couple of days ago from different parts of the country and they said that they had exactly the same problem. At this moment the only way I can use the internet is through my mobile system up in the attic as we live in a "dead zone".

One definition of 'rush' is:

a sudden quick movement towards something, typically by a number of people.

Given that this is the time when most people will be travelling to or from work, I have always thought it quite apt.

I’ve long viewed it as the time when most people will be trying to travel quickly to or from work, but failing because so many are doing it at the same time.

Re: Post your videos here

Hi Guys n Girls I am back on line. I am still in the UK and still trying to think what sort of video I am going to make of interest to you.
As most of you know Sue an I spend half the year in Spain enjoying a good life with all the other OAPs in the sun, and this is one of our normal days out a couple of years back.                  We have lots of groups down there and some are made up of older profesional musicians who have retired but still love to play.

Re: Post your videos here

Thanks Gordon.  The absence of males, apart from one, on the dance floor is very noticeable!

Re: Post your videos here

What a wonderful video Gordon!! Nicely done with multiple video recorders.
Good to see that you are back online and down with the kids as it were. Funny to think that just a few years ago the phrase "on-line" didn't mean anything, most kids today, and a few adults, couldn't survive without the internet. Like most modern inventions, the internet can be a source for good and evil. Just needs a small percentage of ne'er do wells to ruin the whole internet experience. As William might say:Discuss.

I know exactly what you mean but most of the women are probably fitter than the males of a similar age though. Also there is a shortage of males as they do tend to die before their partners !
There are some good looking widows down here and we all have fun while we are able to still actually move and walk about !        I have no idea if I will reach 80 in a years time but I will think positively !

Thanks Albert, I think to a degree that we all tend to rely on the internet with online shopping etc. There must be more people using it than not ? My sister who is 86 is online most of the day although my brother who is 85 never has had it ! The fact that we were off the phone/internet couldn't have happened at a worse time as we were in discussion with solicitors over a legal case ! also we have very little mobile coverage unless we go up in the attic.  I did find a work around by putting a BT minihub in the attic that works on the 4g mobile system and we could get a limited Wi-Fi for messages, but it wouldn't work the TV and Sue was annoyed because she was watching the Tennis from the continent. Luckily I never took our old tv aerial down so we could at least see most british channels.                                       If WW3 ever starts the first thing that will be knocked out will be the internet !

Re: Post your videos here

Well I hope you enjoyed the previous video because that was at the end of this compilation  https://youtu.be/_atSl0qnQq4            I also appear in this as well as my wife ( yes I am the long haired scruffy sod with the camcorder) I thought I'd put this on to show how I go about it. I sometimes use 3 cameras for bigger events (but a lot more editing) I wasn't wearing a wig and that is my actual un-dyed hair that I haven't had cut for at least 10 years. My mother had long hair that she hadn't had cut for over 50 years and was still perfect in colour almost into her 90s, and it came down past her knees when she used to brush it ! My father's was still dark coloured up in his late 90s and he died when he almost reached 101 !
