Trump is the best thing to happen to Europe in decades.
I said this in 2016. His first term shock things up a bit. However, when he got elected in November 2024 Europe and NATO carried on from there they left off after seeing Jan 6th and what Trump did in Afghanistan. NATO preemptively side lined the USA in December-January 2024/5.
Since then, strategies that were discussed in 2023 and 2024, particularly after the Mar-a-Lago secrets fiasco, were set in motion, but quietly. For example, the reorganizing of NATO in Europe in December-Jan, setting up carefully framed EU legislation that all EU members of NATO must spend 66% of their money in the EU for weapons. The writing is on the wall here. It wasn't 100% because some EU nations will have to phase out over a decade or more some US weapons systems they currently have. So you can expect the EU defence spending to be at least 66% in tne EU rising over a decade to over 85%
This will damage the US defence industries. Not least with the cancellations of lots of F35 sales. The UK is in a mess here.
Ironically, the new US military rifle is the XM7 a SIG Sauer design made under licence in the USA. Sig of course come from the same part of the USA as the Glock... (satire as both are from Austria in the middle of the EU)
Yes the EU/Europe will have to look after itself but don't forget the ONLY reason US troops were in Europe post WW2 is because the US wanted them there to project US power and have troops permanently on the other side of the world. Remember in 1956 when the UK and France asked the US for help, not military assistance but just to stand up and say "we support you" the US sat in its hands because there was no direct profit for the USA. The US has a habit of this. Both in WW1 and WW2.
The USA had no problem sheltering convicted IRA murderers in the USA. They always wanted anyone they wanted to try in court extradited to the USA, but it was always a one way street.
The problem was it was always a bit too much effort to change the way thigns were and it needed everyone in Europe to work together. The tipping point has bene reached. It won't ever go back.
Putin has destroyed Russia. Trump is destroying the USA.
Trumps problem, or more likley the next POTUS' problem is when China invades Taiwan. This will seriously affect the USA but Europe will say Not Our Problem, and it isn't.
Boodly silly time for GB to leave the EU.
