I assumed that Chris meant his comment to be taken as tongue-in-cheek! It seems highly unlikely that a low-traffic site such as this one would prompt a significant boost in a YouTube channel’s viewing stats.

Oh, dear! Yes, I know it was tongue-in-cheek - did you not see my winking emoji?

But, if it were meant seriously, then no, promoting her here would do not good at all, which is why I do it on a high-traffic site (Discord).

Sorry, Ali, I didn’t see your winking emoji (or, indeed, any other emoji) when I posted, and I don’t see it now!

I added one - seems not to have appeared. Oh, well.

Re: Elaine Giles – YouTube Tutorials (Temporary Closed, watch the replays)

I’m sorry it didn’t appear, but I’m afraid I’ve no idea why. I’ve never encountered that problem because I much prefer the look of old Serif ones, so — despite the extra steps required — I always use them instead.

It's no biggie. I probably made a mistake. I don't really care! It's certainly not a complaint.

Hello Ali and Alfred,

It was meant light-heartedly, yes Alfred is absolutely correct.

In any case, it’s great to see so many people supporting and promoting her work. The more positive engagement around truly educational content, the better.

Kind regards,
Chris

I knew that. Maybe we can move on from this now?

Anyway, the latest session was another good one, particularly towards the end. For anyone starting with Affinity as a DTP tool, there are three videos that will help them to get them ready to roll:

Working with Colour
Mastering Text Styles
Mastering Master Pages

After that, I'd recommend any of the layout videos and also the one about working with images. Between them, you'll get a comprehensive and confidence-building insight into setting up your projects well and future proofing them.

I am going to be rebuilding the ones I had already started in Affinity and adopting Elaine's workflow going forward.

Absolutely agree with Ali. Elaine's videos are excellent learning resources. I had used Serif's PagePlus for many years and moved on to Affinity Publisher (when they finally added the Footnotes feature) and last year transitioned to the new Affinity (v3) relatively easily- just getting used to differences in some tools, etc.
But Elaine's tutorials cover so much and provide practical information, not just what something does, but how best to use it - as per Ali's comment on workflow.

Re: Elaine Giles – YouTube Tutorials (Temporary Closed, watch the replays)

I can't (won't) do Saturday evenings, so I'll be watching this one on catch-up. It's come at just the right time for a project that I started working on yesterday.

The advantage of watching on catch up is that you can pace yourself. You can find time to catch your breath during these marathon sessions

Actually, I watch them without a break. I find the pace she goes at fine for me - no need to slow it down or break it up.

I'm fascinated by this one as I have never used Adobe mockups. I'm looking forward to finding out how to do it in Affinity.

I like to watch tutorials without a break where possible, but it’s good to have the option of stopping if your mind is ready to forge ahead but your body has other ideas!

Thank you Alfred and Ali for your replies.

I am also looking forward how to create mockups in Affinity. I am sure we all will learn something new on Sunday.

Kind regards,

Chris

I usually try and watch them without a break if they don't clash with other activities. As Ali says, Elaine paces these sessions well. However, there are occasions when a lot of ground is covered and it's useful to re-watch on catch up to ensure you've taken in all the detail of what has been delivered. I think we all agree that Elaine's tutorials are a fantastic way of understanding and improving how to use Affinity, and the fact that they are available via her YouTube channel is a splendid benefit.

Re: Elaine Giles – YouTube Tutorials (Temporary Closed, watch the replays)

Not one of the more interesting workshops yesterday for me, but still worth watching as there are some interesting techniques used.
