Hi Alfred, The drone is arriving today !! also  I have had a good look at the ETA and I don't think that Sue and I need one ?

I had to explain ‘ETA’ the other day when I used it to mean ‘Edited To Add’ in an online communication. The only other meaning I’m aware of is ‘Estimated Time of Arrival’. What ETA have you had a good look at?

Regarding the tests, I have seen "some" of the results and those seem to be OK. I have 3 more funerals to go to in the next couple of weeks but it won't be mine at the moment !

Good to hear! Apart from your having to attend other people’s funerals, of course.

Alfred I thought you meant The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) ? it is a new digital pre-travel permission required for non-visa nationals visiting the UK ! It's another piece of nonsense "trying" to stop people getting into the UK !
We are going through one of those times where we are seem to be going to so many funerals that we are keeping the funeral wear hanging up in the bedroom waiting for the next one, maybe we will go dressed like this just to get a reaction from the other mourners at the next one ! we have been to 2 since we came back to Blighty at the beginning of February !

Oh, yes, I read about that! As you say, Gordon, another piece of nonsense.

I was originally going to say Björn and Agnetha, but I changed my mind!

Re: Post your videos here

Well I have been having a good look at the drone and gave it a flight for the first time. This video is nothing special at all but I am amazed that for something so small it can do what it does.
I flew it around and down to the river using and watching it on my phone for about a mile or so away, but as you can't actually see it in the air soon after take off you are at the mercy of technology and the avoidance sensors. I just simply pressed the "return to home" when I got where I wanted and bingo it landed perfectly.
I will do a lot of testing to find out all the amazing things that it is capable off and take it to Spain. It is a DJI mini 4 Pro if you want to look on YouTube to see what others can do with it ?   https://youtu.be/o1n0NPDGV1w

The drone's stability when hovering is astonishing.

Yes it was windy today as well ! For something so small I find it amazing. Although it can film in 4K at 100 fps I only had a lower class 10 card in it and used 1080p. I also used the app on my mobile to fly it.

That’s very impressive, Gordon! I like the way you showed off that stability by stopping to admire the view at frequent intervals, and the slow flight for the last minute or two made for a relaxing atmosphere. Almost all of the drone footage that I’ve seen previously has shown constant motion, usually at high speed, so enjoying something less frenetic is a welcome change.

Thank you Alfred, it really is a learning curve for us oldies ! all the time I am worried that I am going to lose it when it physically goes out of sight for me. Of course I can obviously see where it is on the screen and in this particular video I know the layout of the surrounding area. Regarding the slow return to home, the drone automatically gains hight to fly back in a straight line and as it is higher in the sky it just looks like it's going slower. Amoungst the things that I find amazing is the fact that it is so small that it looks like a "toy" and will fold up and fit in my jacket pocket ! OK you still have to carry the controller to fly the thing, but that will also fit in the other pocket ! my phone (that clips onto it) has the app and the screen on it so I can see where it's going. I  have odered the alternate controller that has the built in screen that is bigger and much brighter so that I can see the information easier, also it will fly further as it has bigger aerials. I will have to be careful how high I fly it where I live as we are on Gatwick approach as it can fly 4000mts above sea level, saying that I am only legally allowed to fly it 120mts above ground level . There are restrictions built into the software regarding heights for different areas as it is satellite controlled and knows where it is in the world with maps that show on the screen. As I said, it's going to take me a lot of testing and reading to get confident.

Re: Post your videos here

Been a bit quite on here for a while so I thought I had better get out and about and do a bit of movie making!!

Last Wednesday the forecast was very good, so we took ourselves back into Kent to visit for the first time a garden, (surprise-surprise), that glories under the name of Great Comp garden - for those of you who know Kent, it's near Sevenoaks. The leaflet proclaims that it's a "Paradise for Garden Lovers, bit of a bold statement you might think, but we loved it. Not a massive garden, but it kept us busy with our cameras for the best part of four hours.
The video is exactly eight minutes long and I hope you enjoy it. WARNING - one scene has Jill on her mobile phone What's Apping away... https://youtu.be/AGlGO-Od0QY

Thanks Albert, some nice Spring shots and blue skies.  Are you on WhatsApp?  It's quite easy to use even for us recycled teenagers.

Re: Post your videos here

I've also just finished a video.  "Summer Sun, Sea & Sand".  Just 8 minutes.  The beaches are very different to Brighton Beach.  Plenty of space and no deckchairs for hire.  It's on YouTube and Vimeo.  Take your pick

https://youtu.be/PlMonE7DPRI

https://vimeo.com/1176460806

Earlier this year I put some more older videos on YouTube.  One was actually an audio visual which started life in 1981 as a dual projector slideshow.  It's had 13,725 views!!!.  Mind you with some views folk may only watch a few seconds.  268 likes and some interesting comments.  My video is historical capturing Samoa as it was then.  It was my first visit in 1981 and subsequently I spent two years there from 1982 to 1984.  My last visit was in 2000 when I passed through Apia on my way to American Samoa.  It's 14 minutes long and should you be interested the link is https://youtu.be/4aSKXj5O2IE

Re: Post your videos here

We both enjoyed your videos Eric, seems like you spent most of the summer on the beach, and why not. The Samoa video was really good and I liked the way you managed to incorporate the sound of the waves when it came to the pictures with water in them.

Yes we are both on WhatsApp due to the recommendation of my brother in law. There is one thing I cannot get my head around, and that is how do you copy/paste on it. I wanted to send a message to my sister and her husband to tell them about my new video, but I could not work out the way to get the link pasted onto the message. Can anybody out there give me a step by step guide?

Re: Post your videos here

Albert - are you using WhatsApp on a phone or pc?  I have it on both and some things are easier to do on your pc with a mouse than with fingers on a fiddly phone.

On the phone Eric. Since I posted the question I did Google it, don't know why I hadn't thought of that before, and the answer appears to be that you have to long press the text or picture that you want to copy and then the menu pops up with the copy option on it, then gou have to go to the message bit on WhatsApp and long press on that, then the paste option pops up and hey presto!!

As you say, it's a bit fiddly when you have big fingers.

If in doubt, ‘long press’! On a phone or a tablet it can open up a lot of options that you would normally access via a menu or a keyboard shortcut on a desktop or laptop PC.

A good little video Albert ! the only problem with places like that is that there is "too much" to take in and film !!!! although you have made a good job on that one, well done !. Personally I have never been up there even though it is very close to us when we are at our UK home, although my wife Sue has. I did like the "Cowboy music"

Re: Post your videos here

At this moment I am trying to empty my workshop of various tools and car parts collected over the last 60 odd years before we fly off to Spain for a couple of months. I haven't been making any videos for ages but have been playing about and learning to use the drone. Sue and I often do this walk from our place up to the churchyard where both of my parents are buried and it is certainly quicker with the drone than by foot !  I am still amazed at the quality as it is in 1080p because I am editing it in MoviePlus, although the drone does 4k. Sorry to bore you boys. https://youtu.be/ke7PfboCIAU

Sixty odd years ago you probably never dared to dream that you would be capturing movie footage with a remote-controlled flying camera!

Thanks Alfred, what is more amazing is how much money we have all spent over those years on film /video/audio/cameras etc gear ! and now it is all redundant !!  Even the basic mobile phone can produce better quality pictures/video than most of the equipment that we had (and still have) !  To be quite honest I have thought about getting rid of all my redundant gear that is simply collecting dust in he attic, and I will probably get it all together and take it to a guy that runs a shop near us in the UK and just give it away !

Gordon - Do UK Drone Regulations allow you to fly over other people's properties?  I'm curious as I'm sure it's not allowed here for security reasons.  An easy way for criminals to "case out" your backyard.

Hi, I know exactly what you mean and I am aware of what I can and cannot do in the UK but every country is different. It really depends on people reporting you, Spain is more strict and you need a licence to fly them, and as my house in the UK is on Gatwick approach I am limited to how high I can fly it, also my drone that is satellite controlled has maps that show where I can and cannot fly it.
While drone pilots do not need permission to fly over your property, they must respect privacy rights. If a drone is used to invade privacy, such as capturing images of individuals without consent, legal action may be pursued under privacy laws. Homeowners can report violations to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) or seek legal remedies if they feel their privacy is being infringed upon.
In summary, while flying drones over houses is legal in the UK, it comes with strict regulations designed to protect public safety and privacy. Adhering to these rules allows drone operators to enjoy their hobby or profession without infringing on the rights of others.

Surrey's Wisley Garden, was truly spectacular this time of the year, with its tulips in particular taking pride of place along the Jellicoe Canal. The video was last taken last Tuesday on a lovely sunny day with a lot of blue sky. Hope you enjoy it, just under 10 minutes long. https://youtu.be/t_jW9-v-eP0
