Wow you did happen to go on a day with perfect weather ! We have been there before and like you " I filled my boots" with footage as well ! Perfect light for the colours and a well put together video thank you. One other thing, I bet that you was the only person there using a camcorder ?

Re: Post your videos here

Thanks Gordon, it was a wonderful experience, the display of tulips were just gorgeous. I must admit that I do not think I did see another camcorder there, they must be going out of fashion, being superseded by the dreaded mobile phones I guess. I don't think I will be using a mobile for videos any time soon, I don't even use for taking photographs.

Re: Post your videos here

Thanks Albert.  Tulips are one of nature's most appealing flowers.  As for mobile phones I noticed most were shooting vertically!!

I use my phone for occasional photos nowadays.  I haven't used a still camera for years.  I also use it for some video.  The reason being it's always in my pocket.  I rarely use it for making phone calls!

Re: Post your videos here

I don't think you are alone Eric when you say that you rarely use your 'phone' for making phone calls.
When the so called smart phone was invented, I think they should have called it, a "mobile computer", that is also capable of making phone calls. I personally think that this device in today's world is a necessary evil, I even get reminders by text that my medication is ready to be collected from the chemist - quite ridiculous.

Have not had a good rant about mobiles for some time now, thanks for giving me the opportunity Eric!!

Been to Wisley a few time over the years as its only just down the road from my abode. Have always taken a video camera with me starting with a lumpy VHS camera (Dixons early 80's) that sat on my shoulder.  Been using an XC10 over the last few years

Re: Post your videos here

Talking about camera's etc, what do other people use ? I still use a Sony AX53 and an AX700 and a GoPro for my videos of bands in Spain, but my go to one when just going for a walk is the 53 as it has amazing stability, and I would think is the best camcorder to use without a seperate gimbal. However the 700 is a far superior camera regarding fully adjustable and has a bigger sensor, but is heavier and larger. I have yet to make a decent film with my drone but as it is very small with brilliant quality video I can see it being used in my music videos in the near future.

I think that I have used most of the methods of film making starting with a clockwork 8mm cine camera that I bought in a junk shop when I was at school in the 50s, the picture is of me in the 80s with one of my first VHS camcorders.

Re: Post your videos here

I think most video enthusiasts over the age of 40 started off with a ciné camera. I started off with a eumig mini 3.

I then progressed onto a chinon bought from Dixons.

People who are now in their early 40s were born in the late 1980s, by which time cameras based on solid-state image sensors were already available, so there are probably many in that age group who have never used film.

Re: Post your videos here

I wasn't intending to make any videos at the moment, however I ordered a new shed to be delivered and assembled and I had an idea just as they turned up. I missed them assembling the base as I was grabbing the GoPro and a tripod. Time from start to finish was under two hours by these two Romanian guys that are working for a firm called Skinners Sheds. All Sue and I have to do now is paint it green !  https://youtu.be/LzDGOBq-q24

Re: Post your videos here

I would like to see a time lapse video of you and Sue painting the shed, with the musical track of "Behind the Green Door" by Shakin' Stevens!

Gordon - they didn't appear to use many nails?

Albert - that's brilliant.  Are UK pubs like that now?

Re: Post your videos here

Our village has been silent on a Sunday morning for ages from the church bells because they have been away being refurbished. I decided to pop down when they were being installed and filmed some of work involved. I don't think that I will ever see it happen again ! I also had a quick look at them being tested afterwards on a practice evening.

Re: Post your videos here

Very nicely done Gordon, I enjoyed that a lot. You were very lucky to get access to all of that, although having to lug your video stuff up those stairs seemed a little awkward, the results were worth it. One way of keeping fit I guess.

Jill and I returned to Hole Park last week, a place you recommend to us four years ago, I will be uploading my master piece shortly!!

Nicely filmed and put together as usual Albert ! It's another one of those places that there is "too much" to film at this moment with everything in bloom or just starting.  Unfortunately the wind in this last week or two is blowing a lot of the blossoms off of the trees including our magnolia and our apple trees and most seem to be further forward than normal this year.  I like the little infills of other people walking around, and of course Jill on the swing that Sue also had a go on when we were there with my sister a few years back, well done.
We are due too fly out to Spain soon for a while (if there is any fuel) and I will probably take my drone as I have an idea for one of my music videos.

Re: Post your videos here

Thanks Gordon, it's a little treasure isn't it.
Not having a dedicated microphone, the wind noise was a bit intrusive. I had to delete some audio and replace it with different audio from the film where wind noise was not present.

Looking forward to your drone/music video, sounds very interesting.

Thanks Gordon.  Very interesting.  You coped well with some difficult lighting situations.  The slings on top of the bells didn't look very strong but obviously coped with the weight.

Thanks Albert.  Some nice botanical shots there.  Some kids don't grow up do they and just cannot resist swings!  Did you have to push Jill?

I'm just finishing my own botanical excursion video which has taken around ten months.  Unfortunately I don't have any bluebells, like you shot, to include.  I'll post it later after I've uploaded it.

Here it is "Colours All Around".  A Botanical Excursion. https://youtu.be/G9QuXop7USE or https://vimeo.com/1187165456  Take your pick.  A warning, it's 13 minutes long.

Taken over a 10 month period.  The Eden Garden visit was taken with my AVCHD video camera.  With the others it's 50/50 video camera/phone camera.  Yes Albert I do prefer to use my "proper" video camera but my phone is usually in my pocket.

What a lovely lovely video Eric. A fantastic kaleidoscope of colours in nature. Jill, (being the gardener), said that she recognised most of the flowers, but the cockscomb was new to her. Did you have to revert to the "Lens" function on your phone to identify some of the flowers or are you familiar with all of their names? I quite often have to freeze frame and take a picture for "Lens" to do its job, it's quite remarkable what technology can do these days.

On a side note, I could not distinguish between your "proper" camera and the phone camera whilst watching, makes you think why bother with a proper camera when a readily available camera is always lurking in the pocket - that's a discussion for another day perhaps...

Re: Post your videos here

Thanks Albert.  Whilst watching Gordon's video of the bell installation and his struggle with video gear up the stairs I thought how easier it would be to just use a phone!

As for identifying the plants/flowers I started of asking our gardeners.  Then on the village trip we made last year to Kauri Glen I noticed some of the ladies apparently taking shots of the trees.  But they weren't.  They were asking their phone to identify the trees.

This got me thinking.  On my pc I found three (there's more) sites that identified plants and flowers.  Using Windows Snipping Tool I take a screen grab from my video and save as a jpg.  I then grab the image onto the site for identification and hey presto I have the answer.  BUT the sites don't always agree.  Even AI has its bad days but if two agree then that's good enough for me.  They usually give you several alternatives ranked by percentage accuracy.  As Jill will probably tell you the difference between species and subspecies can sometimes not be clear and even the experts may not agree on exactly what a flower is.

It's autumn now and the nights are getting cooler.  I used my wheat bag last night.  Three minutes in the microwave.
