Re: Post your videos here

Well we are back in the UK for a while and we don't normally go back to Spain until September at the earliest. The garden is like a jungle at the moment ! Hopefully I might just get round to make a video or two.

It's probably cooler in the UK than Europe at present?

Actually ericlnz it is going to be about the same within 1or 2 degrees, however it will feel hotter as I will be "slaving" away in the "jungle" !

I ran across this video today.  It deals with "sound" and how it can be handled even in difficult conditions if you can get your "talent" to cooperate.  Forgive me if I've posted this before.

How is everybody coping with the extreme heat we are currently experiencing in the UK? Jill and I are not too good with it, it has limited our attempts to visit any National Trust properties. We did manage however to pay a local visit to Hyde Hall, just a half hour drive down the road. It a was up to its normal standards although we visited too late to see the roses which was a shame.

We started off by embarrassing the lady at the entrance as I took a long(ish) shot of Jill showing her membership card. The cashier gave out a loud scream of NO when she saw me videoing as she was still finishing off her chocolate bar!! We did have a bit of a laugh about it in the end but...

Anyway here are my efforts of the visit, it was just before the heatwave started in earnest https://youtu.be/L09ZOEvLNlE I do hope you enjoy it. Phew, it ain't 'arf 'ot Mum.

As for the heat, with over 50 years of being in one of the hottest parts of Spain we can cope !                                            Wow ! those gardeners at Hyde Hall certainly have their work cut out for them ! So much colour and beautifly laid out. Well done Albert Ross ! another day seeking out perfection in another place of beauty. The whole video linked from scene to scene without being boring and the coloures were to die for !. I often wonder if these places can actually make enough money to keep going ? although being National trust a combination of membership subscriptions, donations, legacies, direct property income, profits from shops and restaurants and the National Lottery Heritage Funds, they obviously do !.

If any of you saw a few snippets on the TV regarding the fires in Southern Spain, you may (or may not) realize that this is in fact the area that Sue and I live in and have many friends that have got caught up in it. The last count that I saw was 26 dead and lots of others injured. Hopefully we will still have an undamaged property ?

Re: Post your videos here

Thanks Gordon, glad you enjoyed the video. Hyde Hall is actually an RHS garden rather than a National Trust property.

So sorry to learn that those fires in Spain are where you live when visiting the country, it sounds like a living nightmare. Are you being kept informed regarding your property over there or will you find out when you return? I guess the area being hit by the fires will take a very long time to recover. Things look horrendous at the moment.

Albert Ross, Sorry about the mix up regarding RHS and Nat Trust ! it's caused by the SOS (Silly Old Sod) syndrome !.  As we have owned and lived in Spain for absolutely ages we have lots of friends in the area including Spanish neighbors who would soon let us know if anything untoward were to happen. This is not a totaly uncommon occurrence and we have been warned and evacuated to the beach on more than one occasion over the years. Luckily it is a 4 min walk for us. This is a picture taken from our beach of one of the firefighters planes collecting water, they also use helicopters that will use any local expanse like reservoirs/lakes/swimming pools etc for the same job.

Thanks Albert.  As for the heat, talking to my South London brother last night I realised one reason why you guys probably feel it more than us.  Do you have a Heat Pump/Air conditioner at home?  They are common here for winter warming and summer cooling.  They are vital across the ditch in Australia.  Here most commercial buildings and hotels have systems but I hear of visitors to London being surprised at how unpleasant some hotels can be without them.

Yes it was on our TV News with interviews with folk with UK accents so I watched closely to see if they were Sue and you but they weren't.

As you know Eric, the UK does not experience heatwaves of this intensity very often, which means that not too many domestic dwellings have air con installed. However most supermarkets do, so when you go in off the streets, the cold air just hits you really hard and is just such a relief from the sweltering heat. Apparently due to global warming we must all expect these conditions to continue, so I am guessing within the next 50 yeas or so most of our homes will have such things.
Assuming that the planet is still here...

The French/Spanish fires frequently appear on the news here. They look horrendous.

Gordon - I assume you are staying in Kent until they burn out.  With so many evacuated you may have problems keeping up with news on your property.

ericlnz, We have no problem as our Spanish neighbors would let us know by phone or the internet. Also we don't normally stop in Spain in July& August.  The woman hext door to us sent me a picture taken from her balcony looking towards the fires at Los Gallardos and Bedar. The thing is that the people that died trying to drive away from Bedar actually went downhill into the fires !! and the village escaped with very little damage !!
None of our close friends had any damage either.
I have been out with my camcorders in the UK last weekend (19th) making a video of a local blues group that are very good. I recorded the whole gig and the video is almost 2 hrs long !! and it took me several hours to edit it.  Apart from that the heatwave in the UK has bought the crops on early around our house and the corn was harvested and the straw baled up over a week ago, the maize fields are growing at an alarming rate as well so I stuck the drone up to have a look.
https://youtu.be/PM33nyCYu5Q And to add just a bit of light entertainment this is the start of the 2 hr gig (it's only short) and the guitar player on the left had a new knee the other week so he had to keep sitting down ! https://youtu.be/UDhR2cCQwnc

Re: Post your videos here

I may have put this video on in the past ? Down near our residence in Spain there is a hotel that was built about 20 or so years ago on the top of a hill, and a couple of years after opening it started to slip down the hill and was abandoned. I took my brother to show him what can happen to some of the badly built constructions down here.

Thanks Gordon.  I don't recall previously viewing it but recall a similar one you posted.  Do you know the name of the hotel?  I tried looking for it online as I'm curious as to what the engineering problem was.  Di they not go deep enough for sound foundations?  Or has the hill behind slipped?

Re: Post your videos here

ericinz, unfortunately I don't know the actual timings regarding this hotel and we are not there to pop along until mid September and ask a local. I do know that the road that Sue and my brother was standing on had wide cracks in it. They are filled with tar to keep an eye on "when or if ever" the slide stops.  We probably go up there at least once a year and as yet the cracks are still on the move. Knowing a fair bit about how Spain works it will probably be just like that for generations and nothing will be done about it ! Just like the Algarrobico hotel down the road to us on the coast that was put up illegally in 2003 ! and all parties involved have washed their hands over it ! There is plenty on the internet about that one. I think a lot of money changed hands in this case (as it always has) since we first came down years ago, and long before that !
What is happening with the illegal hotel in Almeria Spain

The El Algarrobico hotel in Carboneras, Almería, is currently undergoing a significant legal and administrative process towards its demolition. After years of legal battles and political disputes, the Spanish Government has announced plans to begin the expropriation process, which is a crucial step towards the removal of the controversial building. The hotel, constructed in 2003, was built without the proper planning permission in a protected area, leading to extensive legal challenges. The First Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, announced the expropriation of the land, which will enable the State to expropriate the building and land within its jurisdiction. The demolition is expected to be carried out within five months, provided there are no unforeseen obstacles. The process involves coordination between the central and regional governments to ensure a coordinated and complete demolition.

Re: Post your videos here

Hi I decided to try one of these new fangled DJI Osmo Pocket 4 cameras that seem to be all the rage at the moment. It arrived in a couple of days but only after I had found out where the delivery driver had left it !! All I had was a picture of it laying on the ground beside a bucket and a pair of pruning shears and it certainly wasn't at our house ! I found it after a few investigations of the houses within a mile but it obviously has a  different post code to us. I often wonder if some of these delivery drivers can actually read ! Anyway after a lot of faffing about to get an app on my phone before I could even open it I then had to use a barcode scanner before I could actually use it ! Yes it works fine and is very light compared to my other Camcorders and the stability is as good as you can get !! as it has the same gimbal as my DJI drone. Now comes the big problem that I didn't expect, my Movieplus editing software will not recognise the 1080p that the camera produces ! The only way that I can get it to work is passing it through Handbrake and rendering it in 1080p again but the smoothness is lacking slightly. The only difference that I can find is the file from the camera is142mb and the Handbrake is 30mb so is that just too big ?  Obviously this isn't going to be any good for what I want so I must think again and either use a different editing suite just for this camera or sell it at a loss.

It seems such a shame as they are not really ready for eating yet ! the tree has suffered because of the heat and these fell off in 2 days. Maybe I should start making cider ? https://youtu.be/G-ly3usGEaA

Can you do something with sound?  I gather this is a VLOGGING camera and the sound would be important.

Hi pberk, yes it has very good sound from the built in microphone, it also has a remote mic that will fit anywhere that you want it to go. It has a built in magnet on the mic to go on to a metalic surfice and a clip that also fits on the magnet, it also fits on your shirt/ T shirt / whatever/ via another magnet that goes on the other side of the material.                                        This is going to be something else for me to to find out how to use properly since1958 ! after using 16mm/8mm/S8mm film/VHS video and finally Digtal video  !   Although I shall still use my other 4 camcorders. The only one that I want to sell is the Sony AX700 that has hardly been used and is in immaculate unmarked condition with very little use. This is one of the best prosumer camcorders and the only reason that I want to sell it is because I bought it solely for a back up for weddings etc and I never use it !

Is the mic wireless?

Yes it is,and it works well. Being as old as I am this has certainly woken my ideas up to more modern equipment !  OK I shall still use my older well proven camcorders but this is a bit of a wake up call !!  I have no idea on how long it will keep working with no problems ? and I shall still keep my other gear handy !!

Re: Post your videos here

As I stated earlier, this new DJI Osmo pocket camera is really good but the 1080p out of it is not recognised by Movieplus ! I can run it through Handbrake and it will work but it's long winded and the res is not so good. Has anyone got any answers ? as my DJI drone's 1080p works fine on Movieplus.

Re: Post your videos here

Gordon - My experience is that I can convert 1080p with Handbrake or Shutter Encoder with no visible loss of quality.

Can you post one of your problem files to a cloud service such as Google Drive so we can download and have a play.

As for conversion being long winded that's going to be unavoidable given MVP's age.  It obviously doesn't have the required codec.
