It's so strange Gordon that you should pop up here .. I have a Sony NX30 .. It has pretty good stabilization. I use a tripod when ever possible.
I've been thinking of a new camera. I like the look and the reviews on the Sony FX3 .. I think it would take me up a level. I don't mind spending the money if I can convince myself that the films I make with the FX3 deserve it. And -- if I can convince myself to devote the time to learn a new camera well enough to be able to say "I'm glad I got this FX3 and spent all that money". So -- no new camera yet .. Right now I think the "little" ideas I have would not come out any better than on my old NX30.
One of the things about 4k is being able to crop into the image without losing resolution if your final output is 1080p I envy you that with your AX53.

PM sent, hopefully I will get a reply, I need to take a new laptop to Spain for a while and I like to keep in touch on this forum. Cheers
Alfred seems to be on vacation .. He has not posted anything since Aug 27th .. nor has he admitted any new members since Aug 27th .. In other words, nothing from Alfred since Aug 27th .. This is unusual.

My experience is that the upload actually take place nearly as quick as FileZilla but that the "update remote manifest" takes forever. So, one can cancel the upload during "update remote manifest" and all is well.
The question is how important is "update remote manifest"? Does it do anything useful? Can you skip it?
I am reluctant to cancel unless I can be sure that there are no significant consequences. When it says 'Updating remote manifest' it still states that there are 3 seconds remaining. I am not sure what processes are going on during that supposed 3 seconds.
It's never done me any harm to cancel. I usually let it run to completion later on, when it is convenient for me. I've never found anyone who can tell me why it would be important to do the "updating remote manifest". It seems clear to me that you don't need to do it every time you update your site. So if you are worried, do it when have the time.
By the way, I have a very large site .. about 5000 images and hundreds of pages. It takes "updating remote manifest" about an hour to run.

I'm sorry but I can't make any sense of that ? try as I may.

The Appointment - 5 min
Thanks Paul, very well done.
Being of senior years, I've just passed my 80th birthday, and with one of my retirement village friends passing two days ago I found it very moving.
Thanks. Sorry to hear about your friend .. I'm 78 ... can't avoid thinking about (and hearing about) such stuff .. but didn't Shakespeare nail it? Even when I was young, I had the "Complete Works of Shakespeare" with a bookmark planted on the page where this speech occurs.
I use to think I'd like to play the guy who comes on and says, "The Queen, My Lord, is dead." I think its his whole part in the play. That's it. Just the one line.
I would rehearse that speech in the mirror. I was ready -- but sometimes I'd get it wrong and say, "My Lord, the Queen is dead." .. I'd have to look it up. To me this was real drama. All these years later, I finally made something out of it.
Julia wrote:Hello, thank you so much for replying.
I had already tried this, but have tried again, sadly with the same result. I excluded the test page from navigation, published to disc folder (my local ftp folder for this site), used CuteFTP to transfer file to host (Hostpapa), rogue code still there. I could see the code in in the Webplus Preview Page setting, immediately after making the page, both via Chrome and Explorer, and also in the source code, accessed by the 'attach html' button, even before saving the page.
You can see it at www.aliceglasnerova.com/test1.html
I also tried making a completely blank master page and used it for another test page (test3) which still shows the rogue code.
Something weird .. it's picking up the rogue code from somewhere ???
Properties/site Properties/Search Engine/
Is it picking up something from here .. you probably know more about this than I do as I never use Google Validation.

Well it was certainly interesting and well made, I hope I go the same way !
Here is the finished YEP, I hope the ending doesn't cause a heart attack !
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYkRZAL1jY8
I didn't go into cardiac arrest at the ending -- in fact, I laughed. It was unexpected. Clever. Good job.
But why do we always assume that Aliens are up to no good?
Well .. let them speak for themselves: https://youtu.be/mioq-tRAGBQ
If I understand the problem correctly, it appears to be something that Google is doing. Can you create a new page called "testpage" with just some text on it where you "exclude" the page from publishing and from site navigation so you can test things. The testpage should be as simple as you can make it.
Can you then upload this page to the same location as your website so that you can see what it looks like when "live" .. So the page would be accessed at "www.aliceglasnerova.com/testpage.html" .. Does the same problem occur?
I don't want to mess you up -- so only do this if you feel you know what you are doing.
Albert Ross wrote:To be very honest Paul, I am not quite sure what I think of it. Not too many laughs in it, not particularly eye catching, in fact it the "play" could well have been written for the radio. How often does your mind wonder about what will happen when you eventually "pass over"? I guess most people have thought about it, to a greater or lesser degree, but not too many people openly talk about it, even to their other halves.
I am interested in your motivation for making such a video, what inspired you to write and film it. I have now seen a few of your videos and each one made me think much more than the average You Tube creation, at least it wasn't politically driven, unless I am missing something.
How did it make me feel? A bit confused, and more determined than ever to enjoy life while I am still capable.
Thanks for the link.
Thanks for your comments. The "radio" comment was most interesting. I suppose I could have made the piece much more visually interesting -- but somehow I liked it as it is .. Theater of the Absurd. I guess I was a bit lazy too. This way it was very easy to shoot. Still, at the end of the day, I liked it that way so that's what I went with.
What motivated this piece? First it had to be something I could do entirely myself. Second, I wanted to use the famous soliloquy from MacBeth. I started fooling around with it, acting it out in front of a mirror. Gradually the "story" of the appointment came to me. I started shooting and then running the voices through various filters for effect. The two characters started to be different. I worked on the script and found an ending. This, for me, is always the most important thing. The ending. Does it make any sense? Does it complete the story? Very very often I have a story idea that has a nice start, but no ending. I wish I could learn to start with the ending and work backwards. I'm constantly looking for one-man-band ideas with a good ending!!! .. Got one?
This little grim piece is not for everyone. BUT .. It worked for me as it gave me the chance to do the speech from MacBeth. As far as politics or some other meaning in the piece, there is none that I was aware of .. It's about checking out -- and I guess I'm answering Shakespeare by saying, "It's not so bad" .. I say guess because I don't try to analyze these little pieces. I leave that to others. I do what feels good to me.
Things have been quiet around here so I thought I'd post a short piece I made under my One-man-band banner. I'd love to hear what folks think of it.

Happy to help out Alfred ... You've already done the heavy lifting and given us all a place to discuss whatever and also share knowledge on the Serif products we all use and love. THANKS ALFRED for all you've done!

I didn't know how to put the Zoom in and Zoom out Icon's on the top toolbar. I do now. Thanks.
Pioneer wrote:The answer to this is probably no but is there a way to position the Zoom slider from the bottom of the workspace onto the toolbar at the top of the workspace. i have already put the icons for zoom plus and zoom minus on the top toolbar.
I fooled around with this and couldn't find a way .. I use CTRL plus the scroll wheel to zoom.
ericlnz wrote:pberk wrote:Nice Eric .. a fun piece .. The white cat near the end was "robotic" -- right?
Yes "Moggie" is a battery driven "clockwork" cat. Given to me as part of my retirement present fifteen years ago. Two troublesome young ladies with whom I worked were behind it. She's a FurReal Kitty Cat from furrealfriends.com (Hasbro) in the USA. She's no longer shown on their website but I did see another like her years ago in a local shop.
She's also here in this video where more is explained https://vimeo.com/299351808
Cute Eric .. Using battery operated actors is a blessing. Even if they disappear and have green daggers coming out of their eyes. By the way, the eyes were a well executed VFX .. But "Moggie" gave a great performance. Imagine if you had to use a real cat to tell the story.
GStree wrote:Albert Ross wrote:Very good Gordon, but just when it started to get REALLY interesting the film stopped. I guess you used the old adage, "leave them wanting more". I'll have to Google "Nope" to find out what it was all about. Thanks for the link.
I might actually "enlarge" the film in the near future as I ran out of talent making it !!
I did make a similar one that you have probably seen and was made in the same field a while back.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyLFbkpoHoY
I saw this a second time Gordon .. Did you do the production completely on your own? By that I mean a one-man-band ..
I've do a number of those kinds of productions and it's hard framing shots and judging if you have what you want when shooting. The advantage is that you are depending only on yourself.
It's amazing what you can do on your own these days compared to days gone by in film production.
What's the hardest things for you? For me, it's getting an idea in the first place that I can do on my own (without help).
ericlnz wrote:Well done Gordon.
Don't forget Aliens are nothing new. They've lived with us for thousands of years https://vimeo.com/198802408
Nice Eric .. a fun piece .. The white cat near the end was "robotic" -- right?
Astonishing .. must be something in her DNA .. I doubt you can train yourself to do something like this.
GStree wrote:There's an award winning film that is out called "Nope", it's quite long and is about people looking at things in the sky. I made a very short one outside in the field today and called it "YEP" but I don't think it'll win any awards " maybe a few "rotten tomatoes" !!

Hey. That's intriguing .. Good start .. there's got to be more to this story.

@GStree It would have been beneficial if you had raised the reason for reposting the link.
The original link worked from my end using Firefox. I copied the url from the site, re-pasted it in the post and it didn't work. I've put the link on a new line and it works for me again. Does it work for you now??
Joe
@Gstree and @Joe
Both links work for me .. using Firefox ..
BUT are either of you guys registered to fly drones in the UK? Is there a fee to get registered?
GStree wrote:I don't know if they would be allowed either ? You would be surprised at the quality you can get from the small drones that you can actually put in a pocket ! They fold up and can be controlled by a smartphone and are quite easy to fly. Mine is quite small but won't fit in my pocket, but will carry my 4K GoPro and gimbal.
A lot of mainstream films now use drones that normally use two people (one to fly it and one to control the camera) rather than using helicopters that are expensive to run and also need a bigger team do it as well.
This video will give you an insight to what is happening in the film industry.

Very interesting video on drones. I liked what the guy had to say about these things being "tools". What he meant was that the most expensive drone might not be the best for a particular job. I would take that one step further and say that the "story" or what you want to say is the thing that should dictate the "tools" you use. A perfect example is that you wanted to show the beauty of the coast line -- the drone was the right tool for that.
GStree wrote:pberk wrote:ericlnz wrote:For us amateur video makers. They don't necessarily have to be created with MoviePlus.
Did someone say post your videos here? .. Ok .. Trip videos. Maybe that's a whole subject for discussion. They can be deadly dull and too long for human consumption. But, what the heck, this might interest somebody here.
Le Harve - Giverny - Monet - Rouen Tour ... 10 min
Sorry I have only just got round to watching this. I really enjoyed it as it was informative and well edited.
Thank you GStree for the nice comment. I watched your drone footage posted above. I have no experience with drones. We will be taking a cruise to Alaska next summer (2023) and I got to wondering if folks would be bringing drones to launch from the ship to truly capture the scenery? I would imagine they won't allow this as it could be safety hazard. But it's a great tool for getting exactly the kind of footage you got. Very impressive.
I've never had that happen .. I use InMotion to host my websites .. but let me ask, does "Talktalk" host your website? There is a difference between a "host" and an "internet provider" ..
GB wrote:...also .. pronouncing Le Harve correctly
But not how to spell it!
The destruction of Le Havre was a sad affair. It helped with its liberation, but was it really necessary at that stage of the war?

According to Wikipedia, The Britilsh commander asked the Germans to surrender prior to the aerial bombardment. The German commander countered by requested that the French civilians be allowed to leave. The British commander refused and proceeded with the bombing. Of course, the German commander could have surrendered the garrison to save lives, but his orders were to resist to the last man. After the German commander was wounded in the thigh, he personally surrendered without formally surrendering the garrison.
The air and naval bombardments killed about 2,000 French civilians and 19 Germans
