Your video reminded me of the video I took down at Grays Riverside Beach back in 2021, at least it wasn't my responsibility to clear the mess up. https://youtu.be/6jCpdjBQ1fU
Yes at least it didn't get into the house this time ! we came back from Spain one year and our kitchen floor had a coating of mud on it!! on that occasion it was caused by a road drain being blocked up further up the road that sent water across the lawn on the other side of the house. I must admit I am getting a little fed up with the constant rain we keep having. Regarding your video, you obviously had to change what you probably intended to film for a day out and sometimes it can make it a bit more interesting.
Alfred wrote:Nope, nobody at all! Sorry, Gordon, but you’ll just have to get used to talking to yourself
Working for myself for years on my own I am used to that !
ericlnz wrote:Thanks Gordon, it's obviously spring for you. I didn't spot any flooding?
Perhaps I imagined it !! ? https://youtu.be/L6Uu8OEwZGw Sorry about the noise, but we are on Gatwick approach !
Hello Hello ! is there anybody there ?
Well at this moment instead of being in sunny Spain with a serious water shortage we are at home with too much ! So much so that our garden got flooded when a water drainage pipe that runs through our property got blocked up. I am still in the midst of sorting that out and did a quick walk around the garden with the old handheld camcorder. https://youtu.be/hrqeRuo8-68
A big part of my life from 1968 until 2012 I was involved in motor racing and was quite successful. I won approximately 300 races along with 2 British championships and held the lap records at most circuits that I raced at, including the UK/Ireland and Spa in Belgium.
Obviously I couldn't film the races that I was in but I did sometimes use a GoPro inside the car in later years.
This is a film that I made back in 2015 after I had hung up my crash helmet and a lot of the guys that I used to race with are in it.

I haven't been filming much lately as I am trying to sort out a flooding problem with our property in the UK.
This is a video that I decided to make at the last minute at one of our local "haunts" in Spain to show what we get up to. It's a different way of life (and certainly cheaper) however with the water shortage this year it may not be as it has been for a long time unfortunately.

I’ve been wondering the same thing, Gordon! Maybe it’s something to do with the equinox the other day.
At this moment I am in the UK with problems of flooding of our property. The crazy thing is that in Spain we have the opposite with a serious water shortage. We have restrictions and this is in what is effectively spring and coming into the holiday season !
We have been flushing our toilet with buckets of water from the swimming pool for quite a while and we are not allowed to refill it. It's just as well that we have a much larger pool 2 minutes walk down the road, it's called the Mediterranean Ocean !
Is there anyone out there !!!!!
Couldn't agree more, editing is a doddle ! I too started when I was still at school with 8mm "proper" film. It was time consuming and could be expensive but was worth it when you first dimmed the lights and showed it to the family. I was lucky in that I knew someone that worked at Kodak who used to give me some odd lengths of 16mm B&W film that I used to split down the middle and re perf it when I had my old clockwork cine camera. I used to develop it as well.
The thing was that you used to have to take a lot more trouble to get it right back then, whereas now you can instantly see what's happening through the lens and adjust it on the fly. I had a load of tin tacks in a row inside of a wardrobe door to hang the edited 8mm strips on ready to stick together and would often make 400 footers ! Thank Christ all that is in the past !
I then went on to various S8 cine cameras including sound, and then to video cameras with separate VHS recorders/8mm tape camcorders and finally getting to where we are now. The picture was early 80s I think ?
Although I haven't suffered from any other major problems with X6 there is one thing that I would recommend to anyone using Movieplus, and that is to often click it off to copy the video that you are making, especially if it is long with lot's of video and audio tracks/transitions/effects etc. This is really important when you are ready to finally export it ! as I don't think that I am the only one for the program to suddenly stop working. I know that you can recover some of it it but not the last things that you have done.

A recent visit to an historic home, Highwic. Well historic for NZ but fairly modern for those of you with older histories.

The Devon connection is interesting for me as my mother was born in Devon at "Up Exe Rowe R.D". She was only there briefly as her family moved to London.
Eric, l have always been interested in any of your well made films of places in NZ as I do have relations over there on my fathers side.
I have never been, but my dad did go over when he was 95! so I still have a few years left (God willing).
Well Snoopy is part of the Peanuts gang and he watches films on the TV !!

I liked that Paul, very professional compared to my humble "flicks"
Lets face it all this modern technology/cameras/audio gear is amazing and enables anyone that is clever enough to master it (and act) to make really good films for peanuts ! well done.
ericlnz wrote:Thanks Gordon. I wonder how the stones/rocks will survive if the area gets a bad storm. A lot of effort has obviously gone into the displays.
We get a few very windy storms down here from time to time that do blow a few of the smaller displays down, however some of the bigger stones are very heavy as I found out when trying to put one back into place, as I failed! Although I am pretty fit for my age this particular one was probably near on 1cwt, and although I could pick it off the ground there was no way I could lift it up onto where it had been originally !!
Incidentally the opening shot on that film was done in one continuous take in camera. It took about 3 trial shots to get it "sort of right" as the big hotel is a long way down the beach.
I am always amazed at the zoom and stability on my Sony AX53 camcorder and I did a quick test today while I was in Garrucha harbor. This is handheld (believe it or not) and it was windy as well !

Down here 20 years ago a new hotel was started and almost finished being built but was declared illegal and has just been left !
It was built on what we would call "green belt land" and was obviously done with a few "backhanders" !! and of course it was built overnight so nobody saw it being built !!
Further along the beach people just started to put a few rocks on top of one another for a bit of fun a few years back and others just keep adding to it, including Sue an Me.

Still in Spain enjoying the weather, I even captured myself at the beginning of this video. This is people of a certain age keeping fit and some are 80+ years old, so I am a mere stripling at 77 !

ericlnz wrote:Gordon - I wonder where your "deserted" building got its water and waste disposal when it was occupied. There appeared to be power lines along the road so that answers electricity supply. It looks too far away from everything to have mains water and sewerage. Here roof water is the usual source for remote areas but if you don't get rain? Perhaps there's underground water which can be pumped up or reached with a well. As for waste - septic tanks?
There is a large concrete tank up near the perimeter of the land that had a locked lid on it, and I assumed that was the source of the water. I couldn't see any wells anywhere but they could have been blocked off and overgrown, however the Spanish are not know for being "ultra safe" and would just have left it to it's own devices !
I would think that where it is situated with access from roads they could easily have had water delivered as even now you can see water tankers around the area that fill up water tanks and swimming pools.
I would think that the buildings were put up in the last 50 years as the nearest approach road and nearest urbanization to the track was only built in the early 70s and were of a more modern Spanish design.
As for sewage waste that's anyone's guess ? but as I said it is very overgrown and a large amount of area that we didn't look over.
ericlnz wrote:Thanks Gordon. Fascinating. I assume the climate in your area is fairly dry?
You could say that !! on the radio just now we are about to have water restrictions put in place as we have had the least rainfall for 10 years and have more buildings, as I type this Sue has just said that we have no water ! However this often happens as the infrastructure is so antiquated it leaks everywhere along the main roads. We keep a bucket of water beside the toilet at all times and often have to refill it from the swimming pool.
We often go for walks up in the hills and often find things like this. I have no idea who would have lived there, or how long ago ? I suppose it could have been a smallholding as there are a lot of goat/sheep skulls laying around. It had electricity and running water and obviously cost a fair bit to build as it had those main gates to the entrance. Could have even been a villain from the 60s/70s as it's well out of the way https://youtu.be/DvcJtVjWmqA
Albert Ross wrote:Nice one Gordon. Enjoyed Ed the Duck having a good time in the sea, it did look cold though. What makes people want to do that, I can think of a more comfortable way of celebrating the New Year, but each to their own I guess.
I know what you mean, but I have seen my wife jump into a swimming pool after breaking the ice !!! as for the two in the duck costumes they won a prize for best dressed and had flown in from Canada, but did use a plane !!
The majority of our friends that come down to stay with us do have a good think of doing the same as us because of the cost of living/lifestyle and weather, also at our time of life how long have we got ? I must admit that as we were here 40 years before any of these "place in the sun" programs on the TV it has not made it any better for us ! however we still have the same Spanish neighbors.
ericlnz wrote:Gordon - a couple of questions. Were the participants mainly locals or Brits like you running away from an English winter? Everything I saw or heard seemed to be in English not Spanish!
And the temperature? It looked like a nice summers day but hang on it's winter at present in the Northern Hemisphere. December 31 is only ten days past your shortest day.
The main participants are English but also other Europeans, however a good majority are actual full time retired residents because of the life style and weather and the majority of all the people tend to speak in English regardless of their nationality !
You may have noticed that right at the beginning a lot of people were wearing jackets and warm clothing as it was a "chilly" 16c before the sun came out of the clouds and the temp reached 25c and the sea was 16c.
We have been here on and off for over 50 years in all months and in the winter the temp drops by 10c directly the sun disappears behind the hills.
We tend to spend 6 months in Spain 5 to 6 weeks at a time but very rarely go in July/Aug because it is too crowded and can reach 50c !. After "Brexit" UK passport holders are limited to the 90/180 rule but we are lucky in that Sue has an Irish (EU) passport that gives her and me a lot more freedom.

Animal Antics https://vimeo.com/901680441 or https://youtu.be/DOnBymg859A
No matter it was only 5 mins Eric it was still well filmed (as usual) and entertaining.
We were in Spain until the 14th Dec and flew back to the UK for a family Christmas and then back down on the 31st ready for the new years day charity sea swim that I filmed. Sue took part as normal and used my GoPro from the swimmers side that I edited in. Unfortunately the battery is on it's last legs so I turned the screen off so it would last the 15mins or so of the duration so she couldn't see what she was filming, but did know that it has quite a wide angle.
The whole thing was a great success and raised 7K for a local animal sanctuary. Where the swim takes place at this time and hour of the year the sun is always directly over the sea behind the swimmers so filming from the beach is never going to be the best. The start of the video is basically for the benefit of the participants and the action doesn't start until 7min, and will probably be boring for you boys !
We are here until mid Feb and enjoying mid 20c temperatures.

PS just noticed that the link isn't starting at the beginning !
The warmer weather in the UK has woken one of our Bank Voles in the garden, this is 40 seconds of it grabbing as much food as possible to put in it's larder ! My wife is never unhappy even in bad weather !!
