Thanks Albert but you shouldn't laugh at the young oldies smile

I feel that I am qualified to do so though Eric, being one myself if that makes any sense, it's only youngsters under the age of 70 who are not allowed to laugh as that would be disrespectful. I must say that the lady in question has my sympathy, I have very little idea of how to operate these infatha-mobile gadgets when it comes to taking pictures, what's wrong with a straightforward camera - it works for me.

What is a 'young oldie(s)', I guess the definition depends on how old you are. To a 90 year old, it's probably around the 70 year old mark, but to a middle aged person, it's more likely to be around 60.

Let us hope that things go as smoothly as possible Gordon - best of luck mate.

Last Tuesday we trundled our way into East Sussex to see how Sheffield Park was doing with all of the autumn colours on the trees. We were rewarded with some beautiful scenes, and not a little amusement watching a young lady in her 60s trying to get to terms with her smartphone attempting to take a picture of a newish garden that the National Trust were landscaping - how we laughed!!

https://youtu.be/AqjWYMv-bGY I do hope you enjoy it.

Thanks Gordon, I'm glad you enjoyed my efforts.

Sorry to hear of your confinement to bed, it must be very frustrating. Please excuse my ignorance, but Is a 'herniated disc', the same thing as a slipped disk?

I do hope you get better very soon.

In the words of the late great, Tommy Trinder, (I do love a good cliché) "You lucky people".

I have not one, not two, but three videos for you to enjoy, hopefully...

Last month we visited our old friend Richard in Gloucestershire, the first time since the pandemic, and he took us to a couple of new locations where we had not been before.

The first one is "Saul Junction Marina" where we enjoyed looking at the brightly coloured canal boats. https://youtu.be/kS6WxDE58qw

The other new location was the "Batsford Arboretum", to see the Autumn colours. https://youtu.be/vbKwzi9bAkk

The final destination was the old favourite "WWT Slimbridge" to watch the wildlife in all its glory. https://youtu.be/gAwLR26CEMY

I hope you enjoy them - around 5 to six minutes long.

Yes Gordon, you assume correctly, 'tis I!!

Thanks Alfred for your kind words, although not sure if I entirely believe you, but welcome nonetheless.

Eric, I wonder how many sets of hair straighteners the gardeners get through to maintain those wonderful grasses...

Our third visit of the year to our local RHS garden at Hyde Hall. A lot of grasses in this one.
Unfortunately I only managed to charge up a single battery as I was in two minds whether to take the camcorder or not, so I missed out on the vegetable plot and its wonderful display of squashes and pumpkins, they were most impressive. That'll teach me.

Anyway I hope you enjoy what I did manage to shoot,   https://youtu.be/4YcrfaA55Bk

Why?

But it reminded me of how much my daughters are opposed to keeping animals in a Zoo.

The trouble is that it's very difficult to assess how much the animals are suffering, if at all. The grey crowned crane, towards the end of the video, for example, looked as though it was attempting to fly away but because its wings were clipped could not take off. Was it in distress, or was it having some fun playing around? At the time of filming it, I thought this looks like fun, but having thought about it I'm not sure if I should be amused at its antics or not.

We do get some nice winter days.  This is from two weeks ago - "Ferrying Around" - https://vimeo.com/1004015072.

Thanks Eric, both Jill and myself enjoyed that, it was good to see the Auckland Tower again, bought back a few memories from the turn of the century.

My video of Colchester zoo taken at the end of last month.

We made the BIG mistake of going at the end of the school holidays, with lots of kids making a hell of a noise - anyway enough of my whining, hope you enjoy my efforts.

Has anybody out there been watching the Olympic Games?

Today and yesterday was unbelievable!!

Yesterday in the Men's Mountain Biking, our man Tom Pidcot found himself in the lead and then managed to get a puncture. Rather than me explain what happened next, just watch this. https://youtu.be/CAkfTc-FbmM

Then just this morning Alex Yee won the men's Triathlon coming from behind in the last few seconds. https://youtu.be/o8Ofz4X4jxg

After that we were treated to yet another gold medal from our rowers, the women's quad sculls. https://youtu.be/XH5WmIYaOro

Then there was the Andy Murray story...

The "woven" animals were impressive.

Yes, very. I wonder who made them, and how long it took.

There is a 'willow workshop' that is available for you to try your hand at making these 'animals', unfortunately it is now fully booked. https://belmont-house.org/events/festiv … orkshop-2/

Thanks Gordon.

We had a lovely day out, and as you say, the weather was perfect, although we did have the odd threat of rain as we drove through the Kent countryside to get there. It would have been good to be able to shoot inside the house, however that was not allowed, and Jill was also not allowed to take pictures. It was a bit of a shame, because there was a fascinating collection of clocks and watches from yesteryear - still you can't have everything, and we did buy a book about them with some nice illustrations.

Sheffield Park in the summer was beautiful and it made a change from visiting it at Autumn time.
https://youtu.be/cE80xgs9LgM

We had a bit of a shock when we learnt that one of the giant redwoods had been struck by lightning back in 2022. It was so sad to see the result. I included some footage of it before the strike, with children clambering all over it having fun. It was the only tree in the park where children were encouraged to climb.

Hope you enjoy the video - just seven and a half minutes long.

Thanks Albert.  I wonder how many gardeners they employ to keep it tidy.  The same goes for all the RHS places.

That video invoked similar musings here.

I had a bit of a Google about this subject, the nearest I got to the answer is this. "The garden at Wisley is the largest of the RHS Gardens. The gardening team varies from 150 to 200 gardeners depending on the time of the year, and includes trainee gardeners who spend up to two years studying and working at Wisley.

So as far as Wimpole Estate or Hyde Hall is concerned it must be lower than the figures given, but by how much is anybodies guess.

He/she was certainly getting stuck into those nuts Gordon.
Whilst on the subject of wildlife, at the beginning of May, we took ourselves down to the river and noticed some Egyptian Geese with five of their Goslings in tow. We went back a few days later and sadly only a couple were still with their parents...  https://youtu.be/cgCpF1R4zgI

Thanks Albert.  Jill looked a bit weary towards the end.  Perhaps you over worked her this time smile

I think you are probably right Eric, it did not help that I made her go round that maze at double the speed, there should be a law about husbands like me - shocking!!

Thanks Gordon, nothing lucky concerning the weather, we keep a pretty close eye on the forecasts these days and try not to venture out if it looks like it's going to be too much overcast.

I have only been to Hever Castle once back in 2012, Jill has been a number of times to attend quilting competitions there with her sister.

Last Wednesday we went to West Sussex to visit Parham. It was our first time there and we had some first class weather.

We were not allowed to use video inside the house, but Jill took some cracking pictures which I had her kind permission to use.

Just under nine minutes https://youtu.be/LS4Lbn6BNA4 please enjoy.

Nice video Gordon. My sister had a Ford Anglia back in the 1970s just after she passed her driving test, although she never actually raced it, she did manage to get up a fair amount of speed on the public highway. I contented myself by driving another Ford, a Ford Classic, if you remember them, it looked a bit like the big brother of the Anglia what with the back window looking just like the Anglia in its design. Happy days...
