Thanks, Gordon, and the same to you. I’m looking forward to seeing your video of this year’s New Year’s Day nutters’ swim!

Alfred I am in the middle of editing it at this moment that is going to be a problem to make it look good !
I was filming from the beach into direct sunlight that is quite low in the sky at this time of year down here. On just about all shots I am using masses of contrast along with any other "tweeks" that I can find and Sue was using one of my GoPros in a waterproof housing in the sea. The GoPro actually works well colour and rendition wise with it's fixed focus lens and she didn't do too many shots into the sun, but the sea was very wavy and with no stabilization on the camera it's going to be a bit of a chore smoothing out shots at all angles.  I don't think this years one is going to be anything that I would like to put my name to. Apart from that we are having brilliant weather with cloudless blue skies most days.
The best thing we ever did was buy a property down here, and as we haven't got the 90/180 day restriction and live 30 mins from Gatwick we can go at the drop of a hat ! and 2hrs 20mins later with no luggage at all we have our little bolt hole waiting.

Some of us don’t know (oh, all right, I don’t know!) what “the 90/180 day restriction” is. Please enlighten me.

Hi Alfred, the 90/180 day restriction means that anyone without an EU passport must return from an EU country after spending 90 days and cant return for another 90 days. As the UK opted out of the EU a few years back it put a stop to people just going anywhere in the EU and live permanently. My wife has an Irish EU passport that covers me as well, also we can also go through EU customs barriers with no problem if the UK one has massive queues, as she also has a UK one as well !
While I am on here I have a problem final rendering a video on MVP X6 it keeps stopping and showing up a memory fault !!! It is a 30 min film that I have tried several times and I have pre rendered it all and I have run out of ideas. I have often made videos of more than an hour in the past with no problems, I even tried cutting the film completely in half but to no avail. HELP

Probably best discussed in a separate MoviePlus thread, rather than being buried in ‘Post your videos here’, so I’ve created a new thread for it.

Re: Post your videos here

Thanks for that Alfred, I will try a reset on the laptop as it is a "runtime error" and may not be a problem with MoviePlus ?

Re: Post your videos here

Ok all fixed it was a ram problem (not the kind with horns) a quick clean out and a restart seems to have sorted it as I have finished the video of the New Years Day swim.
As I said, I was using my camcorder and Sue was in the water using one of my old GoPros in an underwater housing without any stabilization. It all went well with no dramas at all, but it was not that warm (23c ambient) and the sea was 15c. I am always amazed at how good an old fixed focus GoPro can be in good lighting scenario's at 2.7k (MoviePlus can handle it) whereas my all adjustable hand held camcorder had a struggle with serious against the light problems. Anyway here it is for what it's worth as the people that organized it wanted it quickly, so it was really "thrown together" and the sound was a mixture of both ! however the GoPro was in a housing so not the best https://youtu.be/H1jU7SPa0Mo

Re: Post your videos here

Hi guys ! are you hibernating ? as I haven't seen anything on here since I put the new years day swim on !
I trust that you are all still in the land of the living ?
Sue and I have been in Spain since the 28th December keeping away from the freezing cold snow/rain/floods in the UK, I have mostly been filming music/ bands up to now but there are a few others that I have filmed but not edited yet that will possibly interest you ?
Last evening just as the sun was going down I could see some "kite surfers" from our abode and quickly grabbed my camera and ran down and took a few shots of one guy that was better than the others and did a quick edit and load up to my YouTube site. The light was very low and the lens wide open and was handheld, but I did get something Cheers.

I'm still alive - can't speak for anyone else. There have been posts since New Year, but not many, and none in this thread.

Hi Ali, thanks for coming back, so much for Sunny Spain it's been pouring hard this morning !! However we have been here (on and off) since 1972 and some years it hasn't rained at all !
We do have a flight booked this week to the UK as we have things to do (not that I want to)!

I hop on briefly most days to see if there is anything to which I can contribute. However, we are currently in the process of re-locating from the Midlands to my ancestral home turf of the north of England. House is on the market; we've found a lovely one we hope to get, and now just waiting for the ducks to line up in a row https://punster.me/images/phpbb3/smilies/animals/duckie.gifhttps://punster.me/images/phpbb3/smilies/animals/duckie.gifhttps://punster.me/images/phpbb3/smilies/animals/duckie.gif and receive an offer on our current house so we can go ahead. https://punster.me/images/phpbb3/smilies/eusa/pray.gif

As a result, we are having to de-clutter, and with both of us being squirrels there is a lot to go through. Keep? Sell/Donate? Tip visit(s)? All good fun! https://punster.me/images/biggrin.gif

KarenPL  I know the feeling !! I have an attic full of all sorts of "stuff" mostly cameras/film projectors/electronic gear etc, you name it I've got it as I have hardly sold anything that I have bought over the last 50 or so years ! although I do try to keep our Spanish property a "bit" clear.

We joke that this is an OTT way of getting rid of accumulated "stuff". https://punster.me/images/tongue.gif

OH is worse than me. He has so many cables, and ancient work paperwork which is decades old. He used to like tinkering with electronics and has shelves of little drawers full of the bits. He's not touched any of it in the 29 years we've been here. A lot of my stuff is crafting supplies, some of which can be moved on to new homes.

However, our 5000+ books, along with their 17 sets of bookshelves will be coming along with us. Most people in retirement are looking to downsize. Trust us to be different. The house we hope to get, as soon as we find a buyer for ours, has 5 bedrooms instead of 4 to accommodate a joint office space for the PCs, printer and all that, plus his & hers rooms for our hobbies. https://punster.me/images/smile.gif

My wife's pet hate is "wires" as I tend to leave them all over the place, also any flat surface I will put something on it and something on top of that as well ! Sue likes books and is an avid reader and writes a day to day diary since she was 13/14 years old. She keeps them in a sideboard in our cottage in the UK and as she is now 74 there are "a lot"!   However they do come in use every once in a while as we all tend to forget things as we get older and they have been very helpful in legal matters a few times !

Re: Post your videos here

Anglesey Abbey was looking stunning as we ventured out for our first trip of the new year. Snowdrops and daffodils were prevalent as were a few bees - all I needed was a "butterfly or two" so I could take advantage of Dana's song in the 1970s. Hope you enjoy my efforts, just under nine minutes long. https://youtu.be/AeXfKcWnOx4

That was lovely to watch. The bees are enjoying the Lesser Celandine, so probably gathering pollen and possibly nectar as the colonies start to grow after the winter cluster. The Herbalist part of me always finds it amusing that one of the common names for the Lesser Celandine is Pilewort, because one of its actions is astringent and can be used in an ointment or infused oil for the relief of haemorrhoids.

The birdsong was delightful, too.

Thanks Karen, very glad you enjoyed the video. I was told by one of the gardeners that the plant with the bees on was in fact winter aconite, and having Google as my friend, I found out that it means, 'Hope, rebirth, and new beginnings', I guess we can all do with a bit of that.  smile

Ah yes, my mistake. Winter Aconite, not Lesser Celandine.  I’m always much better seeing plants in real-life when it comes to recognition. We have got Lesser Celandine in flower around by us, so the mind just went on auto-pilot. smile

I’m going to take this as a sign - we are waiting for an offer on our house so we can put in a firm offer on another - new beginnings indeed. cool

Re: Post your videos here

Hi Karen,

Getting rid of house contents is a problem these days. When I cleared out my house when I moved to US, I took bags of small stuff to Oxfam and other charity shops. Furniture was a problem. Perfectly good armchairs and sofas went to the dump. They could not be sold because they did not have up to date fire-resistant certification. Likewise anything remotely electrical was not acceptable at charity shops unless certified by an electrician. Much of my furniture that was shipped to US ended up smashed and loaded into skips.

All a terrible waste!

I enjoyed that, some excellent shots with good colours. it looked like it was one of those cloudy sun days where the lighting was "just right" that even a single tree branch makes a picture.  I wonder how much ended up on the cutting room floor ?

Thanks Gordon, it was a lovely sunny day and for once the sun played ball, a lot of the time when we go on these visits, the sun is either in your face and it's difficult to frame the shot or it's simply not there - you could say it was a Goldilocks sun. wink Some of the original shots of the naked trees towards the end seemed a bit flat, so I used the 'more contrast' option in the curve toolbox to give it a bit more life.

How much footage had to be swept up and thrown away is difficult to say, but there was plenty, it took me ages to sweep it all up off the floor. I may treat myself to a new dustpan and brush... cool

Re: Post your videos here

I'm posting this three times!   I'm really looking for feedback on my latest project.

I have something new.  This is my first venture into writing musical theater.

It's a one hour long Internet MUSICAL Version of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility" hosted by Jane herself.  The show runs one hour and covers the entire book.  My hope is that a few of you will find it entertaining enough to see the entire opus.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks Steve.  Who, or what, are the three lady statues near the end?

We could use some of your cool weather as it's been warm and humid for weeks now.

Re: Post your videos here

I'm glad you asked me that Eric!! I knew they were called "caryatids", because Jill told me, but as for the history or meaning of them, I had not the faintest. According to this site https://www.nationaltrustcollections.or … ect/516655 they are made of coade stone back in 1793.
