Hi Paul,

I've watched about half so far. It is much better with Jane looking at me while she talks! As I said before, it would be great to see the characters, at least the singers, on stage, even if static. But is is very good and enjoyable.

And no Youtube commercials so far!

Geoff

Have you been able to solve the problem?

This site gives information on one of Mr Trump's favorite policies: https://www.epi.org/publication/tariffs … #epi-toc-8

Bear in mind, of course, that the Economic Policy Institute is run by extreme left-wing lunatics!

Are you perhaps using O (letter) instead of 0 (number)?

I don’t suppose you’ve ever made a long two-minute video!

I doubt if he has, but a lot of people have!

I’m not sure that this really belongs in ‘Your jokes’…

30 years ago? That was in the last century...  18 something? I still think of the 1990s as just yesterday!

What is it about Surrey that makes some people want to leave the country? There are at least two of you here!

Although I was born in Surrey (in the County Borough of Croydon) and lived there for much of my life, I didn't leave Surrey, it was Surrey that left me! A certain woman in Downing Street, in her effort to destroy Britain decided to move Croydon into London! I escaped to the US from London, not from Surrey.

Did YouTube play any commercials inside the Jane Austen piece?

Very likely, but I don't remember. If they keep YouTube free, I'm prepared to put up with them. I just click Close Ad as soon as it appears. The same thing happens with commercial TV, but then you can't close them down!

Well, Eric, you really do not have to watch the whole hour. Ten minutes would be enough to get a good idea of what Paul is trying to accomplish - a brief musical synopsis of the book.

Hi Paul,

I guess there are not any Jane Austen fans here, but it is somewhat disappointing that no one else (https://punster.me/serif/viewtopic.php?pid=6503#p6503) has had the courtesy to make any comments at all, positive or negative. Maybe the narrator should have been that distinguished gentleman of your previous videos - but then that would not be as authentic or appropriate!

Hallo leesyloo_au'

I don't use Craft Artist, but like other Serif programs you can do a "reset" by holding Ctrl as you open it. That often corrects faults. Have you tried that?

This is how I set up a book I did:

Create a PDF, as 2ndtonunn suggests.

No, you do not get email notification when a reply is added. You have to get back to the forum to check. You never know, someone may have posted another problem that you could help them with! Or another topic where you could join in the discussion!

I've looked into this PDF "problem" a bit more.

I have never tried drag'n'drop to add PDFs to PagePlus until checking your problem. I have just been trying to reproduce what you have found, and this is the result.

The first one opens OK. I add a blank page, and drop a second PDF onto it. As you say, I get the second PDF displayed in a single page publication, and the original PDF that was on page 1 has disappeared.

Or has it? No! If I check in the Window tab in PagePlus, I find I now have two publications. Each of the PDFs is in its own separate PagePlus publication. The blank page I added to the first one is still there, and is still blank. This happens when I try to add further PDFs by drag'n'drop as you describe, even multipage PDFs.

What you have found is perhaps a minor bug (which will never now be remedied). But if you want several PDFs in a single PPP file you will have to combine them using Insert as I described.

Hi Karen,

Getting rid of house contents is a problem these days. When I cleared out my house when I moved to US, I took bags of small stuff to Oxfam and other charity shops. Furniture was a problem. Perfectly good armchairs and sofas went to the dump. They could not be sold because they did not have up to date fire-resistant certification. Likewise anything remotely electrical was not acceptable at charity shops unless certified by an electrician. Much of my furniture that was shipped to US ended up smashed and loaded into skips.

All a terrible waste!

But I liked the idea of reading the titles, to clearly get the story points.  Sometimes singers can't be understood -- and to me every word is important.  I wouldn't want to give up on the titles.

Yes, I agree completely. Being able to read the words being sung was excellent and should be retained.

Hi Paul,

Not much response so far!

That is an interesting concept, and was well done. Obviously a lot of effort went into it. Not being a Jane Austen fan I don't find that story very interesting, but I expect many will. It's a pity she does not ever look at the camera when speaking. Would it be possible for the stage curtains to be open to show the characters suitably posed? Not actually moving and acting, but maybe the singer also lip synced? That would obviously involve a lot more work!

The music is OK, and the lyrics witty and good. Well done.

We would need the relevant files to replicate this problem, as it is not something i can reproduce at present.

Have you tried just opening the first PDF in PagePlus, then using the Insert menu to open the second PDF on a "Page After"?

Does Page Plus (am using X7) have such an ability?

Not that I'm aware of. I just add captions as a separate frame, which I place adjacent to, or over, the picture.

both methods you have described leave too much space between the vertical characters

That can be solved by adjusting the line spacing thus:

For a short word, what you have done may be quickest.

Two ways:

1. If you are using a text frame, reduce its width so the letters arrange themselves vertically. Make the text centre-aligned. This may not work if the text contains wide characters such as w's, unless you are using a fixed width font like Courier New.

2. When typing the characters add a line break after each one. Shift+Enter adds a line break. This works in both frame and artistic text. Again, use centre-alignment for the text.

You could, of course, use method 1 initially, the use method 2 only where necessary if two letters appear side-by-side.

There is no option for "Vertical Words", but Line Spacing can be done from both the Paragraph and the Character tabs, or in Format/Paragraph dialogue.

I think Kip was really Katy!

When did you last hear a Brit refer to the "hood" of their car???

Actually most owners of open-top cars, such as Morgans, use the term frequently!

As far as I’m aware, “hood” as an abbreviation for “hoodlum”

I've always had suspicions about that little girl with a wolf as grandmother!

By the way, I have a couple of sweatshirts, and a rainproof jacket, with attached hoods.

Actually there is very little need for the words "normalcy", "normality" and "normalness". They can always be replaced with minor rewording with "normal" or "the norm".

The day was extraordinary in its normalcy

could easily be replaced with "The day was extraordinarily normal, given..."

It's true that 99% of the time the intended meaning of badly worded and ungrammatical sentences is readily understood, but that is not really a good excuse for institutions such as the BBC!

Even the common (in the USA) expression "I could care less" is generally understood to mean the exact opposite!

Have you tried ebay? For instance:
