Topic: PagePlusX8 won't stay open

Greetings Serif users! I've not been big on needing forums, but sure glad Alfred has set this up. PagePlus has been my go-to for decades and poof, its gone! Well, not quite, but for me at least it is. Mine quit working sometime in the last couple months and I cannot get it to stay open. Program starts, gives the options to open files, but as soon as I click on one, the program shuts down and offers to send an error report. But of course, that report has nowhere to go, now. PagePlusX8, Win7 64 bit. Anyone have any ideas? All my other Serif products, and other programs, are working fine! Thanks.

Welcome, Cliff! Good to see you here.

The usual remedy for ‘Plus’ applications shutting down on launch is to reset your user settings by holding down the Ctrl key while you click on the program shortcut. You’ll probably have to put a tick in the ‘Also delete local settings files’ checkbox in the dialog that pops up, so it’s a good idea to back up any program customizations (e.g. custom palettes) beforehand.

Re: PagePlusX8 won't stay open

Thanks Alfred. That helps keep the program open. Now, to further define the problem, When I click to open PagePlus X8 or X9 I first get a warning dialogue that says my monitor resolution does not meet minimum size of 1280 x 960, (but I am actually at 1920 x). Once I click though that warning, both/either  PagePlus x8 or x9 will open and I can work ok with drawing and images, but as soon as I type any text - whether in a text box or Artistic Text - the program immediately closes.  If I try to open an existing document that contains text, it closes down immediately. DrawPlusX8 is affected the same way. Movie/Photo/WebPlus are not affected. I rarely use Affinity, but I can't even open them. All three programs/modules will show a splash screen and then go no further. Other, non Serif related programs that I have are working fine with text, etc.
I've done the usual virus and malware checks without any major issues.
Any other ideas? Thanks!

I wish I had, Cliff! I’m afraid you’ll have to wait and see what more experienced users of PagePlus can come up with.

Re: PagePlusX8 won't stay open

I've been using PagePlus X8 for years without problems. When this error occured in X8 I downloaded X9 to see if that would overcome the error, but it didn't. In case somebody can help figure this out, here is the Error log generated by PagePlusX8 and/or X9 program(s). Based on it, I have been focusing on "fixing" the d3d.dll driver, but it is embedded in the Win7 OS and I cannot touch it and it seems impossible to reinstall DirectX to refresh the files. I did reinstall my graphics card drivers, just in case.  A scannow fix of the system does nothing to help. One other clue that points to graphics is right after I double click to open the program I get a dialogue box that says my display resolution does not meet the minimum. Actually, it exceeds it. I click through it and PagePlus opens. But as soon as I attempt to work with any PagePlus tool that involves text, the program crashes. I don't even dabble in programming, so most of this error message means nothing to me.
Where else could I share this for help?
