Eric, Sometimes I wish that I could swap places with some of those animals, but only if I could have a full life and not turn up as lunch for someone !!
I enjoyed that and can relate to it, as when we are in the UK we live in the countryside and are surrounded by such animals including an alpaca in a neighbors field. I am back from Spain at the moment with tons of footage showing my brother around our area in the sun, so a lot of editing to do. I am having to live on pain killers at the moment as I find it impossible to walk without them ! As someone that thinks he is still a teenager but nearing 80, I am going to have to have a rethink of my life from now on.

Gordon - That's not good.  I hope your situation improves quickly.

I'm the other side of 80.  90 will be my next big one.  No pain killers, just an assortment of medicines every day.

But living in a Retirement Village (Independent living) I've come into contact with something you don't see much of outside - dementia.  I've seen residents go downhill with it and quite quickly.  I don't know which is worse, have your body go on you, or have your mind go.  It's very sad.

Seconded!

I imagine that having your mind go is worse for the people around you, unless any moments of lucidity allow you to be aware of the bad bits. Coping with temporary physical difficulties is one thing, coping with permanent ones is obviously quite a different matter.
