Hi all
The title as good as says it all.
I tried to open Photoplus x5 today, I get splash screen then program shuts down. I'm running Windows 11, have the latest updates finally stopped photoplus working ?
Any help appricated

There haven’t been any ‘latest updates’ to PhotoPlus X8, never mind PhotoPlus X5, in several years, but it’s entirely possible that a Windows 11 update has broken something. Since I’m a Windows 10 user, not a Windows 11 user, I’m hardly well placed to advise you further!
Sorry Alfred I meant updates to Windows not Photoplus - having read my post again I see how you could have mis understood.
That’s OK, Stevie! I strongly suspected that your ‘latest updates’ comment referred to Win11, not PhPX5, which is why I said that a Windows update could well have broken something. However, I’ll leave it to a Win11 expert to help you sort this one out.
Steve I was going to suggest this - "try updating Microsoft Visual C++". It has solved a similar problem with other Software.
But my Serif Photo Plus is also X5 and I'm Win 11. I've just checked and I don't have your problem. Possibly my MS Visual C++ are more up to date.

Unfortunately this appears not to have solved Problem also Panorama X4 appears to no longer open
I tend to only use for cropping and changing file type these days so will see how I get on with XNview
Steve, have you tried a "factory reset". From memory you hold Ctrl when starting and make sure you tick the box which clears a cache. It often fixes problems which even reinstalling doesn't.

I've just checked my X5 again and it's opening and files opening. My Win 11 is Home Version 23H2 Build 22631.4169.
Presumably something on your system is causing a problem. Anyway for simple requirements there are other options as you mention.

You can use the System File Checker to verify the integrity of the protected operating system files on your computer (and, if necessary, repair them).
I have seen this message on the web about a recent Win11 update:
If you’ve already installed update KB5043145 and you’re running into problems, you can uninstall the update in Windows Recovery under the Troubleshoot > Advanced Options menu. After uninstalling it, Windows should be able to restart correctly.

I have a similar problem but only with saving after editing,
I am using windows 11, I have been using Photo+ X5 for many years and love it, recently I am getting an error message when I select Save,
error message "Graphic filter not found"
can somebody please advise me on what is going on,
all help and advice appreciated

The timestamp for each message is linked to that message. If you go to message 10 and copy the URL to which the text 2024-09-29 23:20:32 is linked, you will find that it points to the message in question.

If you have some means of creating a system image, you can restore your machine to the state it was in before the OS update.
Hello All
I'm back (I've had a few bad months and not done much on my computer). After the issue with Photoplus, I began to get the same problem with a few other programs, At first I thought maybe its these are old programs and they don't like the latest window updates.
Then windows up date failed and said it was unable to install 24H2 on my PC. I ran SFC (system file checker) and it failed. I tried an in place windows repair and it failed. I figured I need a clean install of Windows. I ran Windows Media Creation tool and that failed on my PC.
Anyway yesterday having made a bootable USB on another PC, I bit the bullet and did a clean install of windows 11.
Photoplus X5 now appears to be working fine (Obliviously I haven't done much of a test yet but it opens now)
Thank you to all you folks on this forum, although I don't post much, I visit often (apart from last few months) and you have given me much help both on this forum and the good old serif forums

I have a new computer with Windows 11, and although my DVD plug-in unit appears in the C drive it does not appear on the index in the File Explorer.
I see the recent updates have taken place so why will the DVD unit not appear and the DVD for my Photo Plus X5 not upload. Would this be due to the C++ you have already mentioned in a reply? Should this have been included in Microsofts installations? If not how is the best method of placing it on my computer?

I’m not Eric, obviously, but your external DVD drive will be D: or E: (i.e. it should appear under ‘This PC’, not on the index for your C: drive).

C++ is a programming language. This is irrelevant to your problem with seeing drives other than C: on your PC.

I expect that it should have been included if necessary, but I’ve never used Windows 11.
Jim, what is your DVD plug-in unit? Is it one that has a usb Y connection. By that I mean it has two connections to your pc.
