Just wanted to say thanks for posting this fix. I just couldn't understand why the programme wouldn't open up properly. I even tried a system restore, which didn't work, then I found your txt file.
I'm back to full working order now!
Thanks Alfred for getting me onto the forum and also thanks for the fix regarding the CA issue. Worked a treat
Welcome, Mark. Thanks for joining my merry little band.
Thanks for sharing that page, Lon. It’s good to see you back here after your long absence!
Great to see you back again, Lon. And with such a lovely page.
This has reminded me that I could do something similar when I start putting together my family tree research into something more interesting than just a line of names and dates. Although it is more likely to be images of places rather than people once back a generation or so. So thank you for planting that little seed.
Thanks for the advice. The CraftArtist2 StartFix.txt did get my working again - Thank Goodness. Then all I had to do was transfer the downloads across. I had a few. I am getting the script run message which was also mentioned however it seems to clear and not cause many problems so far! See how I go when I do a new project. Just relieved to have all my old work back and be able to use all the lovely digital downloads once more. TY

That’s excellent news. I hope all goes well with your projects.
I'm glad I found this post before doing all the drastic stuff people mentioned (reinstalling, rebuilding etc). So thanks for this.
The registry fix works and the CA2 launches fine. However ~5 minutes of working it crashes. I have even tried just leaving the application alone and do nothing, it eventually crashes around the same time. Although I havent time'd it to see if its the same amount of time.
So I decided to disable my wifi and it works fine without crashing! Although its usable, sometimes it a pain when i need the internet.
Is there another fix or update that may help?
Not sure if this helps

Like most here, CA2 will run for a while, but then crashes to the desktop. Fortunately, I have the earlier version of CA and have been using that without a problem so far. Sure would like to have CA2 running, but I'm able to get most things...well, enough things done in CA1 that it's not been an issue so far. I do find that CA gets just a bit slow at times, but mostly OK.
Hiya, KarenPL

Hiya, Lon.
I'm not using CraftArtist very much at all now, as I went back to hands-on crafting quite a while ago. But I do use it to make labels for the Hubby's honey jars, and when the buzzies have enough excess for him to extract we just need to update the Lot. No. and Best Before date details. On the whole, it seems OK, but can be prone to occasional sudden crashes. So I have become very adept at remembering to save far more frequently than I used to do.
I did try opening up a fairly recent project, also a very simple label, and for some reason, that one does keep crashing where others don't, so there must be something about that particular one that causes this.
I'm in two minds whether to use CA2 or DrawPlus to make up a floor plan for our future house move. I want to have our many bookcases parked directly in the right spot to make things easier for us, so this is a way of figuring things out beforehand. Normally I'd use CA2 but am a bit wary of the crashing possibility, and you can guarantee I'll get so caught up in the process I will forget to save, and perchance get very frustrated...

Given the relative stability of DrawPlus, I’d love to hear a solid argument in favour of using CA2 instead! After all, DSA (predecessor of CA) was based on DrawPlus. I can’t imagine that you’d need CA features such as stencils or ‘intelligent’ frames for a floor plan.

Fair comments, Alfred. It is just that I am far more familiar with the workings of CA2 as it's been some time since I regularly played with DrawPlus.
In any case, I've given up on the task. I just can't get my head around numbers and trying to work to a scale. I just don't have that kind of brain.
So I've taken a scan of the estate agents floorplan, brought it into CA2 to clip into a downstairs and upstairs page, enlarge that and print out. Then I can work out the measurements in pencil.
I've got an idea...depending on how much you like or trust using AI. Just sketch out your floorplan by hand, pencil is likely best. Then, scan the drawing, and give it to Copilot, with a scale that you have in mind, and see if it can create the floorplan for you.
I gave Copilot this hand-drawn sketch, and asked it what was needed to help turn it into a homeowner-use reasonable floorplan.
For a homeowner-useable floorplan—something clean, clear, and practical for room planning, furniture layout, or renovation notes—you’re already well on your way, Lon. This sketch gives a fantastic head start with room labels and layout logic. To evolve it into a fully usable floorplan, here’s what would make it sing:

Sorry for the repeats.....getting an error message here that prompted resubmissions.
Sorry...trying to help you, Karen, but copy/paste is suddenly giving me fits. Anyway....load up a hand-drawn floorplan to AI, and then ask it what it needs.

Hi Lon, thanks for the suggestion. I've not got into the AI stuff as yet. There was a talk I went to on using it for genealogy research but even then, they were saying that you have to be fairly precise in your query, and you still have to check the results to validate, so it seems almost as much hard work as just getting on with it.
I'll probably get around to it one day, but only when I have lots of free time to spare, which isn't the case right now.
My current plan seems to be most viable - printed out enlarged copies made in CA2 of the house plans (recognising that their scale is only approximate), and as I already have the measurements for the various items, I'm just popping those in prospective spots with arrows each way. Just really need an idea of what could go where.
I really ignored AI for quite a long time, most especially since I'm retired. I figured it would have little affect on me, and I don't have children or grandchildren who might be affected. But, my sibs do. So, I've been watching tons of vids, and doing lots of play with Copilot and ChatGPT. Yesterday, I was working with Copilot on an idea to take specific kinds of junk mail...of which I seem to get plenty...and develop an app where a photo or scan could be submitted to verify that the piece of mail is total scam. That's got more underneath it than I can get into here, but there is certain type of junk mail that comes around here that looks quite real, and we're a community of seniors.
In the meantime, ChatGPT will be the engine that runs inside of StoryChopped.com, and eventually in BackPorchPress.com.
Have fun with your floorplan. I did the same kind of thing before moving back into my house this last December.
